Cafe Mustache is a unique space in Logan Square for locally roasted coffee, locally sourced meals and locally produced beer and spirits. Beyond our commitment to serving a great cup of coffee, we are dedicated to ensuring that Cafe Mustache is a place for our community to socialize, share, and engage with one another. Our mission is to be a positive force for culture and community in Logan Square, and help to ensure this remains a vibrant, unique neighborhood.
Cafe Mustache is owned and operated by young entrepreneurs realizing a lifelong dream. We are veterans of the cafe industry who are financing our venture privately without the assistance of banks or "silent" partners. Cafe Mustache is extremely proud of the partners we work with to provide coffee, tea, food, beer and spirits to our customers. We try to emphasize local companies who share our philosophy. While we provide nothing but the best high-quality coffee, espresso, and tea beverages, we also believe that coffee culture should be accessible to all and free of exclusivity, elitism, and "attitude."
Over the past three years we have hosted a broad assortment of local and national music acts in our cafe, from rock to country, folk to hip hop. We have watched some of our local performers achieve international recognition after playing our events, and our collection of Chicago bands for sale on vinyl, tape and cd has steadily grown.
Because of the success of our daily business and events, we have begun to outgrow our original physical footprint.
We want to continue to provide an enjoyable cafe atmosphere while bringing our customers the best local music acts in an environment that is more comfortable for our growing crowds and expanding community. This has become difficult due to our small seating area. Thankfully, an opportunity has arisen that allows us to grow physically while allowing us to expand our repertoire of events.
The storefront adjacent to ours at 2315 N. Milwaukee is about to become available, and we want to take advantage of this opportunity and expand into the additional space without significantly changing the atmosphere of the original cafe. The money that we are requesting will allow us to hire an architect and contractor and receive permitting to create an opening in the wall between our spaces. Once this is achieved, we hope to transform the new space into additional seating for peak hours, as well as a dedicated performance space so that we can continue to provide a unique environment that allows for the consumption of alcoholic beverages, but does not revolve around it. Coffee, tea, and our famous vegan chili will be available at all hours in our new space. As a result of this project, and the funding you provide, Cafe Mustache will be able to open a showcase of new multi-media events, entitled "Cafe Mustache Presents". We will initiate a fresh collection of fine art, film and music events that utilize our increased space and facilities to enrich the cultural activity in Logan Square.
Risks and challenges
The owners of Cafe Mustache are no strangers to the trials and tribulations of interior construction in Chicago. Three years ago, when we completed our initial build-out to transform our space from an employment agency to a cozy coffee shop, we experienced all manner of hang-ups and set-backs. We anticipate that we will have to field issues with permitting, city inspections, the quirks of our old building, electrical and plumbing complications and lots and lots of unforsee-able "oops"es and "uh-oh's. Thankfully we are surrounded by a supportive community or architects, plumbers, computer techs, painters, electricians, and small business owners who have offered to lend a hand if the going gets tough. We learned the first time around that costs can be minimized and challenges can be over come with a little bit of help and a lot of serious hard work.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
