Of all the parables in the Torah, perhaps none is more widely known than the Channukah story. There was enough oil to last one day and it held for eight.
This is all the world at large knows. What they don't know is the action packed epic tale of betrayal, faith and hope that lead to that miracle, and formed the very beginnings of the holy land we now know as Israel.
"The Warriors Maccabee: Fight For The Holy Land" brings to life for the very first time on film the story of Mattathias and his children the Maccabees as they battle for the safety and freedom of the Jewish people against the vile King Antiochus. When their tribe is slaughtered by the Kings forces, the family of seven will face an army of thousands in one of the fiercest single battles of the ancient world. But even the Torah doesn't state just how 7 people could overcome such overwhelming odds. Our interpretation? It's simple, God gave them super powers.
Adapting his novel "The Warriors Maccabee", the film is directed by acclaimed stunt choreographer and fight director Ilan Rosenberg. He is a world renowned performer having worked on films such as "300" and "X-Men: Days Of Future Past", and is the highest level instructor in the Israeli martial art of Krav Maga. Using his film industry connections, Ilan has collected together the best stunt performers and fighters in Canada to create unparalleled action scenes utilizing multiple martial art forms. Our goal is to use this short film as a tool to raise awareness about the Maccabees and present as a proof of concept to investors, producers and distributors as we develop our feature film version.
The film is already shot and edited save for one more day of shooting. The money we are raising are finishing funds for mastering and post production, largely in the VFX department. Shot almost entirely on green screen, we'll be doing 2D/3D compositing, digital set creation, and lots of gore FX. Due to the importance and relevance of the story, we want to make the VFX every bit as spectacular as the fights, stunts and action to honor this incredible piece of Jewish mythology.
To make the best product possible, we have multiple edits of the short scaled to different lengths. This way we can adapt the size of the story we tell based on the amount we raise.
For our initial funding goal of 35,000$ we'll be creating a compressed 5 minute version of the short.
For our first stretch goal of 70,000$, we'll be creating an 8 minute cut of the film including additional scenes and extended action set pieces. We'll also be adding special extra rewards for backers that help us reach this.
For our final stretch goal of 105,000$, we will be releasing the full version of the short film at 12 minutes long, and also add even more unique rewards.
Risks and challenges
Any film project of course comes with certain unique risks and challenges. We have taken every step to ensure we have developed a reasonable budget and timetable by working with professional VFX Supervisors and Post Production Personnel. As the film is already shot, our primary challenge is how much we can afford in VFX, and thus how long we can make the film. Taking this approach, we are guaranteed to complete the project if we successfully raise even our first fundraising goal, it's just a matter of how long the film comes out in the end.
In the instance that we unable to raise our primary funding goal, we will be working with small private investors and cutting the film into a teaser trailer to help develop a feature film. Either way, we are getting this story told!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
