Wayward Sons: Legends is the webcomic by the same name that follows the epic adventures of two groups of aliens that crash-landed on earth 5000 years ago. The resulting war between these immortal beings would inspire every myth, legend and fairy tale in human history.
So now it's that time again by popular demand. We've got not one, but TWO Volumes of Wayward Sons: Legends this time around. But this will be a little bit different. Both Volume 3 and 4 are actually at the printer right now and finishing up being printed as I type this. Last time I did one of these kickstarters for Volume 1, it took way longer than expected, and I didn't want a repeat of that. Instead, by the time this campaign ends, it should be arriving from the printers and ready to ship within a couple weeks or so! Here are the covers:
So why do a kickstarter? Well, what this low goal actually does is covers the cost of shipping, handling, and other fees that are still outstanding on the book. So this is an EASY minimum goal to achieve. But more importantly, it gives my readers a chance to take part in making something really special and an even better chance to make dreams a reality... More on that later.
As you can see by the Rewards list to the right, we have a whole bunch of rewards available. The most popular of our returning goals is the chance to become or create a character in the Wayward Sons universe!
Last time around, these characters became integral parts of the Wayward Sons universe and even shaped major events and plot points! Many even continue to be major characters to this date. And it was so much fun to do, we wanted to offer this again.
Even our lowest tiers (Character designs) will have the character included in the background at some point in the future. And everyone gets to work WITH the author to create your character and integrate them within the universe. Please note, however, the fate of your character and all rights will belong to Wayward Sons... as poor Jaren discovered in his epic arc!
We EVEN have some amazing high end opportunities for ONE lucky person to have their character be the MAIN CHARACTER of an ENTIRE issue and get all of the original artwork FOR that issue!!! I think this may be a first ever for something of that nature.
Another thing we've repeatedly been asked for and this allows us to pay for are T-Shirts. We had a T-Shirt before but I wasn't happy with the way it turned out. So we worked long and hard to create a design that this time can be screen printed for better quality. Here's the current design:
We MAY include logos (if reasonable) on the sleeves. But overall, this design we feel is graphical and stylish in a way that will appeal to anyone who wears it. It's a one-color T-Shirt that we want to go edge-to-edge art. I'm looking for a manufacturer who will do Egyptian pre-shrunk cotton as well, as that was the one thing we DID like with our last shirts. Quality is always our goal.
Looks like we'll easily blow past our initial goal. But that's JUST the beginning.
What I'm talking about are STRETCH GOALS for the campaign. The REAL goal we'd like to achieve is as much as $50,000 or more! And there are real major perks for each achievement. They are:
One of the other things we are attempting, is to see if we can use these rewards to KICKSTART a couple of series we've been trying to build and work on. The first of these is a comic I've had brewing for years called ARENA: EARTH. It's set in modern day and follows an alien who's been sent to earth along with numerous other intergalactic criminals as part of a last-man-standing competition with the fate of the world hanging in the balance. Backers will get to find out MORE behind-the-scenes stuff on this as we get closer to that goal.
The other is a new series that would be written by my assistant, Jenna M. Jones and edited by yours truly. It's a fantasy series set in another world where magic is commonplace and replaces technology in everyday life. It follows the lives of two special young women, whose very existence is against the law! The series is titled Dragon Planes, and I hope you guys help make it a reality.
If we reach these, I can always come up with more! I appreciate all of your support and thank you in advance for helping to spread the word!!!
Risks and challenges
No real risks or challenges. Just waiting on the books to be delivered once pay for shipping.
Delays would only come from those regarding shipping via sea to port and then packing and shipping back out to you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Just like Volumes 1 and 2, each book is full color on high quality gloss artpaper. There are 172 pages in each, not including covers. The softcover version sports a satin finish and spot UV sections. The wrap-around Dustcover for the hardback version is also satin finish with Spot UV, but has less obstructions on the artwork and extra information on the flaps. The hardcover itself is a high gloss, 3mm cover board with Foil logos. These are premium books and we spared no expense.
We plan on offering sizes in a wide range from S up to 3XL at the least. If there are enough requests (please email) we may offer larger, but it may require extra expense.
We are talking to our manufacturer about this... and if we can afford to, we will.
Yes, because we are already mailing you a physical product. That's why we state that everyone who pledges at least $20 will be eligible for the stretch rewards.
We've changed the rewards now so that everyone getting any of the BOOK packages (over $25) will also get the complete digital package now. So all four volumes will be included.
I was dealing with a back injury that made it difficult to sit or concentrate at the computer for lengths of time. What time I did have was being spent furthering the business side of things, with some major announcements coming soon! I hate that we lost so much time, and we are getting back on track.
These other projects (if we reach those tiers) will be with much smaller update schedules. For Arena: Earth (the one I'm writing) most of the work has already been done (writing-wise) for months. Updating it will be much easier. For Dragon Planes, I'm editing, which is much less time intensive, and it is being written by assistant editor, Jenna M. Jones.
