Summary

For the most part, Kickstarter has assisted individuals in gathering the initial momentum to launch a project. The beauty of our campaign is that it is for a project that has already been in operation for several years. Please click on any of the images below to read some insightful pieces of journalism.

What we are seeking and why:

As the website continues to expand, more capital will be needed to ensure its viability. In the past, Editor-in-Chief John Lyman has generously donated his time, resources, and capital into International Policy Digest, in order to move the project forward. As our readership increases, contributing base grows, and outreach initiatives are being set in place, we have decided on developing a Kickstarter campaign to assist in reaching our next steps.

We have established a modest and achievable goal of $4,000! Meeting and surpassing this goal will be of great benefit to our community. We know that when people view the quality of articles on the website it will resonate. Your support will go towards advertising, enhancing the website’s “Bookshelf” and front page, in noticeable ways, and improving our online presence.

WHAT WILL WE DO WITH $4,000?

Fair question.

With over 2,000 archived articles, we can enhance the reader’s experience by adding more interactive features on the front page, increase the size of the site’s “Bookshelf,” and enter into a partnership agreement with Agence France-Presse for straight news pieces.

The Story So Far

International Policy [IPD] welcomes new voices, perspectives, and opinions from practitioners, academics, university students, and individuals who want to expand their personal brand write for us.

Whether you are already one of our thousands of weekly users or enjoy reading new perspectives on regional and international affairs, what sets International Policy Digest apart is that we are a contributor-based platform that seeks out opportunities to enhance worldwide knowledge and promote our writers. IPD’s contributors have a passion for writing and analyzing current events as they seek a means to reach a broad audience and expand their visibility. IPD provides them with this opportunity.

Since 2011, we’ve welcomed over 400 contributors and tens of thousands of monthly readers from every country in the world.

Why Donate?

Contributions will be utilized to fund technical, production, and administrative support, as well as develop a stronger security platform and further outreach initiatives. After making great strides over the past three years with an extremely small, unpaid staff and limited financial resources, we have decided it time to show our support and appreciation to those that have worked diligently to make this project a success as we begin our next stage in the organization’s expansion.

International Policy Digest supports students seeking opportunities to further their education, academics striving to affect change in a positive way, and professionals looking to further their careers. We assist non-profit organizations in reaching broader audiences and further their missions, as well as provide a platform for those looking to promote their personal projects to an international readership. Our contributor’s articles have been referenced around the world by our growing readership, who thirst for news, analyses, and opinions uncontaminated by hardlined ideology and sensationalism.

In the end, we are fundraising for our contributors, our partners, and our readers.

Testimonials

In the frighteningly small world we live in today, the media makes it is hard to believe in the possibility of a “peaceable kingdom” where hatred, greed, fear and vengeance aren’t increasingly the status quo. The International Policy Digest presents an unbiased and amicable exchange of ideas by thinking people who are objective, open-minded and intelligent, and inspire hope for global order. Informative and enlightening book and entertainment reviews are on the site as well.

– Catherine Ellyson

International Policy Digest is a model of 21st century journalism. Long-form, interdisciplinary analysis–thinking that opens hearts and minds–finds a reliable home in its pages. It’s a platform for intellectuals, not headliners. It deserves every praise and every support it receives.

– John Dos Passos Coggin

Challenges

First, we continue to face security challenges that diminish website performance, causing data loss and exposing infrastructure. As the organization’s visibility has increased, the website has become an increased target for numerous, continued attacks, which has compromised the platform’s integrity and hampered article publication.

More security measures will be needed to ensure the website’s viability and large sums have already been spent on correcting the problems created by previous attacks. Donations received will be utilized to develop the programming needed to protect the site content and ensure it remains accessible.

Second, we are a small, not-for-profit organization that has achieved great recognition and visibility in a short period of time. In order to reach the next level, we need to develop a marketing and outreach program or risk being drowned out by other organizations with deeper pockets. Our ability to promote the site’s content will positively impact our contributors who seek a broad audience for their work. We have made great strides with our shoe-string budget; however, in order to push International Policy Digest forward more funding will be necessary.

Risks and challenges

Similar to other websites, our website faces security related issues that impacts user experience. As the website’s visibility has increased, hackers have made the platform a target for numerous and continued attacks and our goal initially is to hire out a security firm to increase security on the website.

A secondary risk is being drowned out by other organizations with larger budgets, which will impact our contributors who seek a broad audience for their work. The challenge is marketing and reaching as a wide an audience as possible on a shoestring budget. We have made great strides with the resources available; however, in order to push International Policy Digest to the next level more funding will be necessary in order to promote our contributors.

Rewards

In donating the International Policy Digest, you will be supporting an innovative, online news organization that seeks to educate and inform those interested in exploring new ideas. Your gift will help maintain a slowly disappearing concept: true independent news. As politics and conglomerates have come to shape the current media landscape, rest assured that those at International Policy Digest will never devolve its content to click-bait infotainment or replace practical analyses with ideological confrontations.
