Assholes is a feature film about Adah Shapiro and Aaron Mark, two sober drug addicts who, after meeting in their psychoanalyst’s waiting room, fall in love, relapse, and become the biggest assholes in New York City.

I would love to be able to tell you more, but the movie has a few surprises and I would rather you experience them fully when you finally see the movie.

Assholes will have its world premiere in the “Visions” section at the SXSW film festival in March. For those of you who might not know, SXSW is one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world.

SXSW festival director Janet Pierson singled out Assholes as one of this year’s “hidden gems” of the feature film lineup, calling the film “beyond edgy …  fucking hilarious and has SXSW written all over it.”

These are very flattering words!

The film is almost finished, but to put on the finishing touches so that it can screen at SXSW, we need more money.

The funds we are asking for will pay for the last few steps of postproduction:

  • Sound mixing/design
  • Color correction
  • Music licensing
  • Creation of the exhibition file needed to project the film at the festival.

Completing these steps is both absolutely necessary and costly. I realize we are asking for a sizable amount of money, but in making Assholes I believe our immensely talented and dedicated cast and crew accomplished what amounts to a spectacular feat: to make a fun and outrageous feature length film with high production value for a fraction of what mainstream movies usually cost to produce.

This is the final step of our journey and I humbly ask you to help us as we cross the finish line.

I am so deeply grateful for anything you can contribute to our campaign.

Even a dollar or two helps!

And if you can’t contribute, please SHARE this campaign and help us spread the word!

The Cast:

Betsey Brown (“Adah Shapiro”)

Betsey Brown is a native New Yorker, actor, and filmmaker.  She has made various guest star appearances in television shows such as The Carrie Diaries, Forever, and a Crime to Remember.  She can be seen in the upcoming films, The Pervert (co-directed by Nathan Silver and Jack Dunphy), Feed (directed by Tommy Bertelsen), and Fingerilla (directed by Micah Vassau).  Recent theatre work includes Karin in Reiner Fassbinder’s "The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant," at The New Ohio Theatre (directed by Ben Viertel), and Kimmy in Anna Baryshnikov’s “The Essential Ella Maythorne,” (co-directed by Brandon Powers and Jae Kim). Her directorial debut short film, shegetsey betsey, won the Audience Award for Best Experimental Short at New Orleans Film Festival in 2015.  She is a co-founder of Oh Force! Theatre Company, where she produced her short play, “Babyboobooshnookoobear,” with the help of her company members.  Betsey is a graduate of University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

Jack Dunphy (“Aaron Mark”)

Jack Dunphy is a filmmaker, animator and actor based in New York. His short films, Serenity and Chekhov, both premiered at Sundance and went on to play numerous festivals around the world. He animated Caveh Zahedi's short  film Bob Dylan Hates Me which also premiered at Sundance.  He co-directed the forthcoming feature film, The Pervert, with Nathan Silver, with whom he also wrote Stinking Heaven. Jack Dunphy has not seen Assholes yet, but he's hearing good things.

Peter Vack (“Adam Shapiro”)

Assholes' director Peter Vack is also in the movie!  See his bio above.

Eileen Dietz (“M”)

Eileen Dietz was born in New York City along with a twin sister, named Marianne. While Eileen went on to be an actress, Marianne lives in Florida with 3 terrific kids. She also has a sister named Denise who is a novelist and has written more than 19 comedy mysteries. Eileen also has a husband and best friend known as Thomas Albany.  Eileen has acted in many award-winning projects. She was in the original Tony winning “Steambath” with Tony Perkins, which was immediately followed by her portrayal of the Demon, known as Captain Howdy in the Oscar winning The Exorcist. This face of death has became the icon image from the film.  Eileen was also made up to look like Regan, the little girl in the film, and played all the fun stuff: the vomiting scene, the masturbation, the death scene and lots of others.  Eileen then came to California at Warner Brothers invitation and was immediately cast as Julia in the TV Series “Planet Of The Apes.” Following the Chimp, Eileen again got to wear great special effects Makeup.  Eileen was in the vastly popular kids animation series “Korg: 10,000 BC.”  Loving playing roles of women on the edge, as well as demons, Eileen was cast as a member of the murderous Charles Manson Gang in Helter-Skelter where she sported a bald head.  Then came the Emmy-winning daytime Series, “General Hospital,” where she portrayed one of her favorite roles ever, as Sarah, a patient in a mental hospital (do we see a pattern here?). Eileen has been blessed to continue working on many other projects, specializing in thrillers and horror. Another of her favorite roles was as Eleanor Maxwell, in The Queen Of Screams, directed by Margo Romero (Norma Desmond meets Carrie in a fiery finish). Throughout the years Eileen has appeared in almost a hundred projects, along with the aforementioned projects, Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2, Constantine with Keneau Reeves, Tim & Eric’s Awesome Show, Night Tales with Jamie Fox and indie projects Lake Alice, Grim, Kids & Monsters with Malcolm McDowell, Butterfly by Edward Romero, 100 Acres of Hell and the short film, also winner of many awards: Hag. Eileen is also so blessed to participate in Horror Conventions and Film Festivals throughout the United States and Europe.
