Unsurfed Afghanistan
We are THIS close to completing our documentary about the FIRST ever ridden waves in Afghanistan. Help with a small financial push to see us through post-production!

The Journey
Unsurfed Afghanistan is a documentary that follows Afridun Amu in his quest to bring joy to his homeland. What better way of doing this than sharing what you love with your people? In Afridun’s case this was tricky. Afridun adores surfing. But Afghanistan has no access to the sea. So how was he going to combine the two?

With the help of experienced (and yes, partially crazy:P) river-surfers we spotted locations no surfboard has ever touched. Ploughing through the risks of agitated streams underneath a calm whitish looking river surface, broken roads, temperature swings and cultural differences, we captured footage that unveils an almost mystical side of Afghanistan. A side, where our project spoke directly to the untamed and adventurous spirit of the Afghan people and seemingly transcended and collapsed neatly established East-West divides.

Afridun Amu established the Wave Riders Association of Afghanistan (WRAA) in 2012. Since then WRAA has hosted the first Afghan National Surf Competition in Portugal and joined the International Surf Association World Games. Afri, a trained jurist, has spent much of his life searching the world’s coastlines for surf spots. This film accompanies him to his home country, landlocked Afghanistan, with just the same goal.

Where You Come In
We need your support to finish our film in a way that honours the mission. We need funds for sound licensing, composition, post production, colour correction and other technical edits in order to get our movie to the film festival circuit. You will definitely enjoy the perks we have lined up for our supporters. Even more you will enjoy watching a film that you have contributed to, a film about some visionaries making the impossible possible.

Risks and challenges
This is a low risk endeavour. We’ve already covered the thorny part and got the footage out of the country. Now we just need a last push to help us cross the finishing-line. You may have noticed that professional post-production is much more expensive than the goal we have set. This is because ours is a work of passion. We depend on friendship and support from people who share and support our vision. You have our word that we will get the most out of every penny you give us in support.
There might be some unforeseen expenses but in this case we will find a solution.
