About this project
HUGE UPDATE! Mini-Comic Rewards Added! Add-On Restrictions Unlocked! The Yellow Magmoid is Unlocked! Click to Read more.
Eon Quest™ is a line of 5.5'' action figures that pays homage to Masters of the Universe, Warlord, Galaxy Fighters and other similar lines from the 80s . Not only is the packaging and styling of the figures similar, but the line will also recapture the do-anything, go-anywhere spirit of those lines. But this isn't just an exercise in nostalgia. My goal is to create a bold, new universe of characters and to tell their stories through the mini-comics, included free with every character.
Lord Eon™, ruler of the Ninth Galaxy, has called together six of the galaxy's greatest heroes to aid him in his quest to stop the emergence of the evil Negalith™! But, there are no shortage of villains who will stand in their way, either!
Series One features two heroes and three villains. Each figure is fully articulated at the neck, shoulders, hips, and waist. They include unique accessories and mini-comics which, collectively, tell the story of their first adventure.
Each figure includes a mini-comic. Not only does this harken back to the fun of vintage figures, the inclusion of these comics was really vital to me. I didn't just want to make these figures, I wanted to bring these characters alive with stories that I hope will make you care about the characters and their world. You can read the very first mini-comic right now to introduce yourself to the world of Eon Quest. Click the graphic below or go to eonquest.com
The figures will be packaged in a similar fashion to vintage 5.5'' figures, on a full-color backing card with a plastic bubble. Here's a look at the in-process card back.
I've tried to keep the Rewards as streamlined as possible, to make pledging easy. You can get the mini-comics by themselves either digitally or in print, pick your favorite character(s) or get more value for your pledge by choosing a set of all 5 figures. Individual figures include:
Starbreaker™ - Last of the Gammerons
Uplink™ - Technopath of the Gradius Cluster
Captain Wolfmoon™ - Cyborg Space Pirate
Magmoid™ - Lava-filled Mechanoid Henchmen
Magmoid Captain™ - Lava-filled Mechanoid Commander
Or, you can choose the QUESTER level. This gets you all five figures and a great deal. Want to keep your figures in their packaging, but want to read the comics? Or would you just like an extra set of mini-comics? Then the READER level is for you. And, finally, if you'd like one set to keep carded and one to open, then the MINT ON CARD level is available.
Now! You can choose any of these add-ons NO MATTER WHAT LEVEL you've pledged at!
New! Unlocked EARLY! The Kickstarter Exclusive Yellow Magmoid—either as a singular figure or Army 3-pack—can be added to your pledge right now!
I first encountered 5.5'' action figures when I was five years old. Before that, I had been a Hot Wheels kind of guy through and through. Then the fateful day came when I accompanied my mom to her friend Diane's house. Diane's son had a HUGE Masters of the Universe collection—everything released up until that point, I believe. I fell instantly in love, and my mom bought me two figures and a vehicle that same day from K-mart. Since then, I've been hooked on action figures. Not just playing with them and collecting them, but the idea of making them too.
Eon Quest first had life as a comic strip I created for my high school newspaper. From time to time, I'd revisit the concept—creating new characters and set-ups. Fast forward to March of 2014, where I decided to turn my life-long dream of making an action figure line (and comic book!) into reality. It has evolved considerably since those 1995 comic strips, though!
I started with some rough designs in a sketch book, before further honing these into turnarounds. These were handed off to my sculptor, and I worked with him to get the proportions just right. I wanted something evocative of the vintage figures, but with a little bit more of a modern edge. 3D prints were made of the base body to ensure it had the right feel.
After an exhaustive search, a factory was vetted and selected, and factory prototypes with working articulation were made. The factory I'm working with has made toys for such brands as Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, Minecraft, Doctor Who, Star Trek and more. Tweaks are currently being made to these prototypes, but soon we'll be ready to move into production—creating the molds and producing and packaging the toys, which is where you come in.
Risks and challenges
Like any product that is being manufactured overseas, many issues can arise during production. Anything from adjusting the molds based on the first test shots, to having to adjust the packaging, to simple human error causing something to go awry can cause delays. Any hiccups in the process will be communicated immediately to backers here and also on the Eon Quest Facebook page. I feel confident I've selected a solid, trustworthy factory, but I do have the ability to physically fly to China to address any issues if needed.
