About this project
We promote, support, and perpetuate poetry and literacy throughout the Upstate of South Carolina using events, venues, and community involvement, and educational programs. We currently are hosting 4 regular open mic events in Greenville and Spartanburg, as well as poetry workshops at locations such as the Sterling Community Center. It is important to us, as a collective group, and as individuals to encourage education and creative expression using this medium.
We currently have 3 slam teams who are slated to participate in two poetry competitions this year. They are the Southern Fried Southeast Regional competition in Tampa, Florida, in June, and the National Poetry Slam Competition, which will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina, in August. It is our hope that by representing our state and local communities in these events, that we can continue our cause to spread poetry to larger audiences and larger stages. We are already involved in several different community organizations and have participated in events to bring awareness to community issues such as bullying and domestic violence, also.
Because we are all local, homegrown poets, we are asking for donations to assist us in our endeavors. We are currently planning on taking a group of approximately 25 persons to Tampa and Charlotte and would like your help in raising money to cover our expenses so that we may share our words with a greater audience. We have budgeted a total amount of $7000.00 to include our fees, travel, and lodging. Any donations provided would be greatly appreciated!
