Rasta Thomas’ Bad Boys of Dance return to Turks and Caicos 10 years later to continue their mission to inspire and thrill the children of the island with their unique, energetic dance form for the Friends of the Arts’ 10th Anniversary Gala Celebration. The Turks and Caicos Friends of the Arts Foundation (TCFAF) is trying to raise the money to bring Rasta and his 9 dancers down to their islands to do a 10th Anniversary show in May. The focus of their trip back to TCI will be to connect with the children of the island, who get very little opportunity to see professional dancers of that caliber perform live.
During the week from May 14 to 20, Rasta and his company of 9 dancers will give master classes, company classes, outreach workshops on his innovative choreography, and create a new original piece collaborating once again with our local artists, all culminating in a grand finale performance. All the while, we will be recording the trip, the classes, interviews with the artists and the local children, and the performances on the island, with the end goal of producing a documentary DVD to give to our backers and to memorialize this event.
The Turks and Caicos Friends of the Arts Foundation (http://TCFAF.wordpress.com/) was formed in February 2002 with the sole mission of bringing the Performing and Visual Arts to Turks and Caicos. On June 6, 2002, the newly formed TCFAF brought young dancers Rasta Thomas, Adrienne and Ashley Canterna, Danny Tidwell, and Robbie Nicholson in to perform a most ground-breaking and eclectic show never yet seen on the island, collaborating with our own local artists for a mix of classical and contemporary dance, African drumming, folk dance and story-telling. In the last 10 years, TCFAF has continued its mission and has produced over 60 original shows with mostly local volunteers and international artists donating their time to work with and inspire our island youth.
TCFAF is asking for donations on Kickstarter to pay for the airfare to bring the 9 dancers + the technical crew down to Providenciales, out of pocket expenses to feed and house the company, and fees for a videographer to film, edit, and produce the documentary.
