About this project
I have found my passion and what I want to do in life. I am now trying to make that happen. I need to upgrade my machine and inventory to grow my company into something that my Daughter and I can enjoy and pay the bills with. How exciting to finally find a career that you truly love. Now I need to make it happen.
My company is going into its 3rd year and has had some success. In order to keep it growing and expanding I have to get an embroidery machine that is capable of handling commercial level volumes. I am looking to purchase a multi-needle embroidery machine, blanks for customizing, and marketing materials.
My current machine is over 3 years old and is not intended for commercial use. In order to keep growing the bigger machine is vital to continued success and growth.
I have been told by my Father to give up this crafting stuff and get a job. I have been told life is about paying bills and then you die. Happiness, dreams, self-fulfillment are no important. This is my chance to prove and see if that is true. I want my Daughter to know that if you work hard you can have success and it doesn't necessarily need to be in an office or it can, but follow your dreams and make success and happiness happen.
I want to purchase the commercial machine and expand production capability. I want to be able to make a profit enough to have a business and be an available parent to my child. My current financials have sales in about 2-3k yearly, which is great, but with the new machine I am projecting sales around 25k the first year and 40k in year two of higher volume production.
The final piece of this is community. I am looking to be able to have the resources to help my community. I live in a higher poverty area of the city and have volunteered at my local YMCA but I want to do more. I want to fill the void of the missing Home Economics class use to fill. I want to offer a class to local children teaching them sewing, cooking, balancing a checkbook, basic life skills that use to be taught but has been squeezed out. I want to be able to have the resources to purchase used machines for the YMCA, and have the company reputation to bring people in and help empower the community and the next generation.
Risks and challenges
Risk: Cheaper goods available from large retailers or other countries.
Offering quick turn around, great customer service, and letting the customer customize products at an affordable price is how I plan to negate this risk. I am able to get higher quality blanks for customizing and sell reasonably better then local chain stores. The turn around time is 1-3 days.
Competition: There is a local large company that has a tote bag and gift line but their price point is out of the range of most middle class consumers. This combined with the fact that the company states not to wash the products. As a mom of a 7 year old this is not possible. I cannot imagine not being able to wash our tote, pool bag, diaper bag, My products are durable and easy to clean. They can all be put in the wash and the price is much more affordable.
