Hi everyone! Welcome to our Kickstarter project! We are Conducting From The Grave, a metal band out of Sacramento, CA. We have been a band for about 10 years now, and have had our ups and downs, but have always bounced back with an even greater passion to make music for our amazing fans and friends!
During our existence we have released 1 EP independently "Trials of the Forsaken" in 2005, and two full length albums via Sumerian Records "When Legends Become Dust" in 2009 and "Revenants" in 2010. We are now free of our contract with Sumerian and want to move forward in the future independently. As an independent band we get to retain all rights to our music and all creative control, but we NEED YOUR HELP to make this dream a reality!
One of the most frustrating things in the music business is not being able to be heard due to the power that record labels have and the advantages and disadvantages that come with being on a record label. For instance, not being supported or believed in enough to produce the record that we as a band want to make, or having a release continually delayed because, for a label, there are too many business decisions and risks involved with putting an album out. Due to these frustrations we have decided to stay away from record labels for the time being and want to focus on our relationship with our fan base. We want to get this new album to our fans the most direct way possible. That's where this beautiful Kickstarter site, and most importantly, YOU come along.
Making a kickstarter for this type of project is an AMAZING idea because it gives the power to make this come to fruition directly through YOU. We would love to throw in every penny of what we have earned from our daily jobs (and we already have, some of the members having personal debts easily into the tens of thousands of dollars range!) but sadly we just cant keep doing this on our backs alone. So we need help from YOU!
Our kickstarter goal is $15,000, and to alot of people that seems like a HUGE sum of money to just release 1 album, but let us break it down for you. This is what our $15,000 dollar budget covers:
-Paying off debts for tracking/mixing/mastering
-Paying for artwork and the hard copy album pressing (5 page layouts can be expensive!)
-Promotional expenses (publicity, youtube content, google ads, flyers, magazine ads, facebook promotion, as well as other site promotion, ect.)
-Music video/single release expenses (and we want something extra special for you guys to see, not just your typical music video!)
-Tour support (including van and trailer repair/maintenance, Ole Betsy is getting kinda weathered now!) We want to be able to tour and play these songs for you live! ALL ACROSS THE US and possibly THE WORLD!
-Merch expenses (we need to be able to print you guys some awesome exclusive prizes for donating, and each merch run for us can easily cost about 1.5-2k EACH TIME WE RESTOCK!)
Just to name a few....(the list goes on and on)
Honestly, the amount we are asking for is pretty much the bare minimum to do all this comfortably but we do have some stretch goals:
-IF WE HIT $30,000: We can get some VERY much needed equipment upgrades. We have managed to keep our equipment in decent condition after all these years but bands need to evolve and get better, and having quality gear is one of those things that just makes the experience better! Not to mention a professional stage lighting set up for a more intense live show for our fans!
-IF WE HIT $45,000: We could afford decent home studio equipment to make our writing process much quicker and more cost effective for future releases! Who doesnt like a lot of new material from their bands?
-IF WE HIT 70,000: We could FINALLY afford to book a tour for our fans across the seas! This would cover flight expenses, bus/van rental, equipment rental, driver pay, hotel/lodging, food expenses, ect.) WE REALLY WANT TO TOUR OVER THERE!
Risks and challenges
Once we reach our goal it will be in our hands to handle the arduous task of pressing and shipping out the albums and merchandise you amazing people have ordered from us. In times past this has been the job of others, such as label and merch company, and now it will be up to us. At the closing of this project if we have reached our goal, we will set a solid release date and immediately put in all orders necessary. Then we will spend countless hours personally packaging your orders and preparing them to ship. We will do our best to ensure all orders ship on time, and if you have any problems we will do our best to resolve them. You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or via our Facebook profile and we will resolve any problems if they should arise. At the end of the day we do this just as much for our fans as we do this for our own enjoyment, and we look forward to rocking a stage near you and having a beer with you!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
