PEEK #1: A 32-page comic book, professionally printed on glossy paper with a unique letterpressed cover!
Hello yet again! I appreciate that you haven't left to check your MySpace page! Let me continue your education on this project!
After successfully funding my epic Weapon Brown Graphic Novel through Kickstarter in 2013, I am back to try my hand at this crowdfunding thing again!
Peek was originally going to be the third installment of a mini-comic called Suicide Note, which is an adjunct to my humor comic Deep Fried. But as the content shaped up I realized that a completely new title was called for, not only to tell my funny stories but to create a vehicle for other cartoonists to contribute to down the road.
Peek is an anthology of all-new gonzo humor, thirty-two black & white pages, perfect for fans of Evan Dorkin, Jhonen Vasquez, Arsenic Lullaby and crack cocaine! If things go well, I will publish Peek annually.
And what kind of humor can you expect from Peek? Well, as a regular cartoonist for MAD magazine, I know a thing or two about funny! (One thing, actually...and frankly, I copied it from Al Jaffee's homework). Here are some of my MAD cartoons, which will give you a sense of Peek's tone:
Peek will also see the return in print of Clarissa, my most uncomfortable (and yet most sought after) creation. I have been promising her fans a story called "Take Me to Work Day" for quite some time, and Peek! is where that story will premier. You can read the first five pages here.
Clarissa's stories first ran in the pages of Deep Fried, and have became popular on image chans, Reddit, and the like, (WARNING: NSFW content).
Clarissa is considered the crown princess of creepypasta, spookynoodles and other foods you should avoid if you have a gluten allergy. You can read my assorted Clarissa comics here (I mentioned Clarissa was NSFW, right?)
One of my Clarissa stories, Stuffed Friend, really caught fire and was even made into an animated short!
There will be other great stuff in Peek as well, such as Zen Max: The Road Pacifist, and Billy Blueskies: Upbeat Depressive. And your master of ceremonies will be the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-spoiling Peeker!
Peek is half completed at the moment. Make this Kickstarter a success and it will arrive in time to ruin your Christmas!
To kick off the premier issue I am going to have a swank, letterpressed cover created to give Peek #1 a collectible, one-of-a-kind quality that will distinguish it from your average Spider-Bat comic books. Letterpressed prints are printed on high-quality paper and have texture to them. Here is an example from Papercrave.com, to give you an idea:
Nice, huh? You can see why I'd like Peek to be this fancy! However, fancy comes with a price, and the cost of printing the covers is a large part of the money I am trying to raise. I think it will be worth it, however, to make this product extra unique and attractive.
Here is where your money will go:
Printing costs for book (1000 units): $3700.00
Incentive items: $1300.00
Shipping (domestic postal costs plus shipping materials): $1200.00
Hired labor: $500.00
Margin of Error: $500.00
This brings me to $7200.00, the amount I need to get this book complete and into your hands by December, 2015. The goal of $8000.00 factors in the 10% that Kickstarter receives to lobby for me in Congress.
It's all in your hands!
If you like what you've peeked, I hope you help bring Peek to life! Don't comic shops need a book like Peek to stand up to those horrid Walking Dead comics that upset my Nana? Give generously!
I've got lots of cool items to make your participation in this campaign memorable for years to come.
All orders will receive a copy of Peek #1 and a hi-rez digital wallpaper to spruce up their computer (or pad-slate-smart device). Pledge $15.00 or more and you will receive one (or more) nifty refrigerator magnets!

These comics also feature all the Clarissa stories that have seen print so far.

"Oracle" level pledgers will get a color sketch and a piece of original artwork from the first issue of Peek! Each page will be 11" x 17", pen&ink on Bristol, and are sure to fetch a great price on E-Bay when your gambling problem finally becomes unmanageable!
And for one Daddy Mac willing to put all their chips on the table, The "Stargazer" level features a wealth of goodies, including the original 11" x 17" pen&ink artwork for the Peeker poster above, and a unique collectible: a customized Clarissa "Mighty Mugg" vinyl doll (with a custom box!) No mantle will be complete without it!

Risks and challenges
My first Kickstarter, for Weapon Brown, went pretty well for it being my first time out of the gate. I did learn a few things that I am bringing into this new campaign.
The first lesson I learned was the need for help! Producing every part of the book AND handling all the shipping nearly killed me! This time I have added the cost of hiring more help into my goal, and this will ensure timely delivery of your products.
I also learned not to heap on the stretch goals-- it really multiplies the labor involved. My product, and its bonuses, are more modest this time.
Also, I faced (as it seems everyone on KS must) the sting of underestimating shipping costs. I have adjusted my estimates accordingly.
All this adds up to a project that should ship on time in December, as planned. Please feel free to inquire about any other parts of this campaign that you are curious about.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
