Greetings Explorers!

With wave 1 deliveries now behind us, it is time to turn our attention to the rest of our grand adventure. Before we talk about the upcoming schedule though, we are very happy to say that The 7th Continent is now one of the top 10 BoardGameGeek games with, at the time of writing, over 6,100 votes and an average score of 8.67 out of 10!

This is a great honor for us and it’s incredibly satisfying to see that you are overwhelmingly enjoying the game we’ve been working on for so many years!

Wave 2

The reprint of the corrected cards (2nd edition base boxes and upgrade pack) will begin at the end of June.

The pre-production of the existing expansions (The Icy Maze, Swamp of Madness, The Forbidden Sanctuary, Path of Repentance, Fear the Devourers and Facing the Elements) is finished. Their production will start just after the reprinting of the "Second Edition" base boxes cards has been completed.  We have of course made adjustments, notably to the layout of the cards, to ensure that the color problems encountered on the back of Action cards last November does not reoccur.

At the same time, work on the new expansions - the White Box, the many Stretch Goals unlocked during the campaign (the White Box that was originally supposed to contain 250 cards now contains... twice that!), the "The Flying Roots" and "Comfort Creatures" continues unabated.

This winged and rather talkative companion should help you escape from danger!
This winged and rather talkative companion should help you escape from danger!

Designing, writing, proofreading, drawing, testing, balancing, translating, proofreading, testing (again), integrating and testing and proofreading (again): Ludovic, Bruno and their team of graphic designers, translators, proof-readers, testers, etc. are at work to make you have plenty of amazing new adventures on the Continent.

Panda has already started to work on the game components that will take the longest to prepare (masters and molds of the new miniatures in particular) and is waiting for our files to prepare the printing of the 570+ new cards (and other game components).

Those who have played the game know that ensuring that the game works (full compatibility with existing content), while renewing the experience offered through these new contents, is an extremely heavy, delicate and time-consuming task.

A delivery of wave 2 in October would imply beginning production for the new content in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, it appears that this date cannot be met, despite the energy we have deployed since the end of the campaign to meet this deadline.

Now that we have a more global vision of what we still have to finalize, we are now looking to deliver Wave 2 in the first quarter of 2019, bearing in mind that this forecast will be refined by the end of summer as we advance further.

Due to this, we decided that we can reopen the Pledge Manager.

Pledge Manager reopening and Delivery Wave 1.5

Many of you have written to us to express your regret that you had not purchased some expansions, now that you have had the opportunity to play the base game.

There’s also some of you that regret not having asked to receive your available contents (base box, playmat, etc.) during Wave 1.

We had initially not planned to reopen the Pledge Manager, given the complexity of the procedure and the lack of time.

However, given the number of requests received and the fact that we must now postpone the launch of wave 2 content printing anyway, we've decided to reopen the Pledge Manager for 1 month, starting at the beginning of July 2018, the time for CrowdOx to put the necessary digital supports in place.

This reopening will allow those of you who so wish:

1. To ask to receive any of the already available content you have ordered (base box, game accessories) in wave "1.5" – instead of wave 2 – which will take place in September 2018. This will only incur an additional cost equal to what you would have paid to have your rewards shipped in two waves originally.

2. Add Expansions to your pledge. They will be delivered with the rest of your rewards in wave 2.

3. Add gaming accessories to your pledge: they will be delivered in wave 2. They can be delivered in wave 1.5 but only for contributors requesting to receive their Base Box in wave 1.5. Note: If you have already received content in wave 1, it will unfortunately not be possible to receive gaming accessories during Wave 1.5.

4. To obtain a 2nd edition Base Box: the opening of Serious Poulp's online shop has been postponed following the problem with the production of the 2nd Edition Core Box cards. The extra production copies of the base box will therefore be proposed at the time of the reopening of the Pledge Manager within the limit of the quantities available, for a delivery in wave 2. As these extra production copies are currently stored in China, their cards will be replaced directly before being shipped.

IMPORTANT: the reopening of your Pledge Manager account will be automatic. It is therefore useless to contact us to request this.

FAQ

I'm moving before the next delivery wave. What should I do?

If you are moving before 1.5 or wave 2, you can change your delivery address directly in your CrowdOx Pledge Manager account. If you are moving to another country however, please send us an email to kickstarter@seriouspoulp.com.

I heard about a version of The 7th Continent in another language. Is that planned?

A translation of The 7th Continent into other languages is not on the agenda.

Once again thank you for your support and understanding folks, see you soon for more news!

I was all in already, waiting a bit longer to insure correct card size ... No worries!

Try thinking of it this way:

We get our pledges in either a Single Shipment (Q1 2019), or in Multiple Shipments (Wave 1 already shipped, Wave 1.5 set to ship later this year, Wave 2 in Q1 2019).

Multiple Shipments costs a little extra money, and gets you the base box early, but still means that some of the stuff ships in Q1 2019 (because it hasn't been fully created/designed/tested).

    3. Ken Brown on

@Huckleberry it is a little confusing, but yes, 1 Wave is distinctly different than Wave 1. You’re correct; you signed up to have everything delivered in a single (later) wave.

    4. Huckleberry Carignan on

hmmmm....perhaps 1 Wave doesn't mean Wave 1, but one single Wave?

    5. Huckleberry Carignan on

Help me - I must be an idiot. When I review my CrowdOx survey review page, I don't see a way to edit/add additional gaming accessories to my pledge. Is there a separate link / location I should go to? Also, when I look at the CrowdOx Survey it says "Ship all at once (in 1 Wave)". I thought Wave 1 was already shipped out?

    6. Rhindon

@Aaron Wayman: Yes - everything arriving together means that you’ll get everything in Q1 next year (assuming no more delays). You will have the option to update your shipping preference to receive the base game in Wave 1.5 now that the pledge manager will be opening up again (by paying additional shipping, of course), if you want to receive your base game earlier.

If there are any rule clarifications or updates. consider offering for a new hardcopy with Wave 2. I wouldn't mind paying a bit to add one to my order.

    8. Aaron Wayman on

Sorry if this is mentioned somewhere but I did not see it. I elected to have everything arrive together. So am I waiting until January for the base game as well? Just curious. Thanks

      Hi @Jamie,

It was also unclear to me as to whether the copies available to be shipped for Wave 1.5 will be the old style (with color and size errors) or if they will be the new ones?

    10. Jamie "WhelpSlayer" Johnson Collaborator on

->Are you stating that my entire version 1.0 collection (from the initial Kickstarter back in 2015) will get replaced?

No, if you have the old version that does not need to be replaced, only the new edition cards will. Your “upgrade pack” for your old version will be fine when you receive it too 😊

->What do you mean when you say "proposed"? That word doesn't really make sense within this context.

They will be one sale. As they are leftover copies, their stock will be limited ^^

    11. Dylan O'Donnell on

“offered” would be the more idiomatic translation of the French “proposé” there.

I've read this party of the update a dozen times and simply do not understand what it means:

"The extra production copies of the base box will therefore be proposed at the time of the reopening of the Pledge Manager within the limit of the quantities available, for a delivery in wave 2."

What do you mean when you say "proposed"? That word doesn't really make sense within this context.

I see where the confusion came from: the person asking for "mismatching colors between my Version 1.0 and my Version 1.5" was probably referring to KS2 versions only (1.0 meaning wave 1 and 1.5 meaning wave 1.5). Since there is no official versioning (that I know of) there are many ways to refer to different versions ....

    14. Missing avatar

      Dill on

@Ithaqua: nothing from the original KS will be replaced (why would it need to be?) - those who received incorrectly printed/cut cards in KS2-Wave1 will be able to request replacements. Cards delivered in KS2-Wave2 will be fixed automatically

    15. Ithaqua on

@Jamie: Sorry, I do not fully understand your answer and I was not entirely clear with my current 7th Continent collection and pledge:

-> Should I be concerned about mismatching colors between my Version 1.0 and my
Version 1.5 pledge? If so, do I need to adjust anything in the Pledge Manager?

Yes, you will be able to request a replacement set for Wave 2. We’ll explain more on how
to do this at a later date.

I have The 7th Continent version 1.0 and all version 1.0 expansions in my collection (from the initial Kickstarter back in 2015.) So I backed this Kickstarter with the "Veteran + "New Gameplay" Bundle" which is scheduled to be delivered in Wave 2.

Are you stating that my entire version 1.0 collection (from the initial Kickstarter back in 2015) will get replaced?
Or that I will just get the the correct printed cards of "Veteran + "New Gameplay" Bundle" in wave 2 (which is originally scheduled for wave 2) without anything from the earlier Kickstarter getting replaced?

->Originally I was under the impression that everyone who ordered the base game and expansions to be received in 2 shipments wouldn't have to request the color corrected cards as they would be shipped automatically with the wave 2 expansions. However, nkw, if I nderstand correctly, we have to request the color corrected cards (at no extra charge)

This is correct. If you have ALREADY received your core box then you will need to replace the corrected ones. This is because the issue is not present in every single box. The procedure to follow will be very quick, easy and explained fully in due time 😊

Jamie could you please elaborate that a bit more?
People were getting confused, but I think we don't need to do anything to get replacement cards, as we will get them automatically with wave 2.

I just want to say I really like the shape of those floating vine minis! Such a unique sculpt.

      @Seth: No problem :)
Ah, i remember the times where you calculated the delay of a KS delivering by the formula
(total funding)/(funding goal) = number of months ;) If SP delivers in March, it's still about 14 years early.

    21. SethH on

Oops - didn't meant to @Unisus, and there's no edit - sorry, Unisus!

    22. SethH on

@Unisus estimates are just that - estimates. Sometimes they're wrong. Would you rather get a game with problems sooner? One that doesn't fit fully, doesn't play well, has errors? I'm happy to get the game the way they want to make it.

      @Thomas Beaudry:
"But delays when regular updates show progress are fine. ... And then the first update they give is that they can't deliver, and there will be a delay."
So until wave 1 began to arrive, everything WAS fine. During April they got reclamations about some cards making problems, when those piled up they investigated and found out about the issues that now cause the delay, and in their next update they told us about the whole case and mentioned that the schedule might be effected. Now they have the solution for the problem and a vague estimate on how much the delay could be and again tell us in the next update.
So, what exactly should they have done to run this "proper"?

    24. Missing avatar

      azith28 on

While delays are always a little dissapointing, in this case, I'm good with them taking time to do it right. My group has been enjoying the base game since it arrived, and we still are only on the first curse, so a huge expansion and even the smaller ones coming a bit later than expected will still give us plenty of time to enjoy the game as it is.

    25. Jamie "WhelpSlayer" Johnson Collaborator on

->I may have missed it in the update, but how do I sign up fro the replacement for the base set, is that in pledge manager?

This will be done later, we’ll let you know when 😉

Ho boy, I’m not sure if you can do part. I think it’s more all or nothing just for logistical reasons. I will check with SP.

->How about backers with misaligned/misprinted cards. When will replacements for those be shipped?

All cards will be replaced to repair both colour and print/cut issues.

@Thomas Beaudry: SP hasn’t been sitting around doing nothing — they’ve been delivering the base game. That was about 20,000 units just in the US, I believe. And the manufacturer messed up the product, so they had to spend time figuring out what to do about it. They’ve also been handling questions from people who have problems with their shipment, such as crushed or lost packages, misprinted dice, and missing pieces, as well as answering the same questions over and over from people who can’t read clear instructions that they’ve given in their updates. @Jamie has shown great patience and tact in his answers, and I commend him for that.

They also attended at least one game convention, I think (at least Jamie did), which is part of running a game publishing company.

In the meantime, they’ve got models to show of several of the minis, as well as some card art. They’ve completed The Crystal Song curse, and have made it available as a PNP.

Though they haven’t said so, I’m sure they’ve been talking to a development company about the augmented reality app. Why haven’t they said anything about it? Because there’s absolutely nothing to show in a software project for a while. They aren’t going to show early mockups of the screens because people would be upset if it didn’t look that way when it finally comes out. And who wants to see the database diagrams and programming diagrams? (Well, I’d be interested, but it would definitely be considered a proprietary design.)

I would have been incredibly surprised if this project had delivered in October. I figured from the beginning that it would be at least December before it hit my doorstep. Kickstarter creators invariably give timing based on the best possible scenario with maybe 10-20% padding. This expansion is a big undertaking, and it seems that all the experienced backers (at least all the ones with Superbacker tags) are OK with the delay.

I don’t take any issue with you being disappointed with the delay, but to suggest that SP are being dishonest is where I think you are out of line. To experienced backers, this announcement is not concerning. Disappointing, yes, but not concerning. And for many, I expect the announcement is even expected.

    30. Thomas Beaudry on

@Rhindon Obviously this is not amazon and I have no problems with delay, which occurs on most KS. But delays when regular updates show progress are fine. They had no updates on new content whatsoever. And then the first update they give is that they can't deliver, and there will be a delay. That is not how you run a proper KS campaign. Obviously they can do no wrong when people look at it through rose coloured glassed. I would love to be proved wrong and get the product in the first quarter of 2019, but it will not happen.

@Jamie "WhelpSlayer" Johnson and all at SP. Props to you! To Jamie in handling the masses that can't read or bother to. Way to stay calm, having to answer the same questions over and over again... when they are clear as day in the same f---ing update they are crying in. Makes me laugh knowing that the drones can't even comprehend updates, yet they pledged for a text based tabletop game. Never mind, I'm sure they're playing solo.

@SP please take your time and don't let a few friendless, still living with mommy, keyboard warriors take you down a peg. Shit happens in life, especially in KS life. At the end of the day we backed an idea for a tabletop GAME right? Not the cure for AIDS. Any of you "this is unacceptable" people, get at me when you are on my level backing games like Project Phoenix. Then maybe after 5 years you can have a leg to stand on. Delays happen, just like when your mom goes out for the night and can't make you dinner until she gets home.

-> Can I upgrade my pledge from Survivor to Rookie and get all stretch goals?
      Yes.

->Are Sleeves include in Wave 1.5
Yes, but only if you’re receiving a core box at the same time.

-> I backed at a dollar, and did not PM up to a full pledge, will I be able to go whole hog with the July PM reopen?
Normally yes, however you may have to recreate a late pledge account. Either way you wil be able to get the game 😊

-> FYI - I just tried to use the old link from last November and there is no option to re-open my Survey. I'm already all-in, so I just need to order the replacement cards for my color mismatch issue.

This is normal, the PM is not yet open yet, we’ll let you know when it is and when you can order the replacement cards.

-> @jamie: can we get assurances there won't be any color difference between versions of the last KS and this KS?

The delay incurred is justly due to the fact that everything will be reprinted so this is no longer an issue, so yes.

-> Should I be concerned about mismatching colors between my Version 1.0 and my Version 1.5 pledge? If so, do I need to adjust anything in the Pledge Manager?

Yes, you will be able to request a replacement set for Wave 2. We’ll explain more on how to do this at a later date.

-> Now delivery of Wave 2 has been postponed, is Serious Poulp also looking into the option to deliver the playing mat in a tube

Still not, it is far too cumbersome and expensive to ship in a tube.

-> Bonjour Jamie.

-> Game mat is not stretching out after 25 days on the floor already, any thermal or other attempts to force it may broke it for good.

Shoot SP an email if you haven’t already and they’ll see what they can do for you. Now that the big task of Wave 1 is over, it should be able to handle replacement requests.

-> Dice Bones that are broken (we made a test of 10 000 rolls with a friend and result shows that dice result are not random anymore - the probability of 1/6 of each result is not close enough) What with them ?

Whilst I salute you for rolling the dice 10,000 times, as many people have pointed out they were designed for form over function and to fulfil their task within the game, which they do admirably. They’re not meant to be thrown during the game so as to their balance for rolling, I can’t really say

I'll echo what quite a few people have said: this is Kickstarter and not Amazon. You take a risk for deadlines and minor screw-ups. SP has done an amazing job ensuring that the components work well together and for their intention. I have a game that was supposed to be delivered November 2017 that is supposed to SHIP at the end of this month; so tardiness happens.

I am VERY grateful that SP is offering fixes and alternatives for people. I truly feel that is part of the Kickstarter journey. For all intents and purposes, we BECOME part of the creation of the game. There are bound to be bumps along the way. I will gladly wait another couple months if that means continued high quality and an amazingly immersive game.

If this is truly the only thing the naysayers have to look forward to, then I guess they are stuck playing solitaire until wave 2. Otherwise, I'm sure we all own other games to keep us entertained in the mean time. :)

    39. Corey Mayo on

@Jamie Regarding "->I'd like to check the PM. Could you send me an email with the link?

You can message SP or check your inbox, the link should still be active "

FYI - I just tried to use the old link from last November and there is no option to re-open my Survey. I'm already all-in, so I just need to order the replacement cards for my color mismatch issue.

There is some confusion as to whether or not we received a new email with a link that reopens our survey or not. I did not receive one and cannot open my closed survey. So either people in my situation need to send an email to SP asking them to re-open our survey, or we should wait a day or two to receive an email...?

If there are a lot of people in my situation, SP might be receiving a ton of request emails. Which is not my problem, but a potential issue for SP. I don't want to contribute to this. Please advise.

I kindly ask You for pointing me where "it was very clearly stated from the start that they wouldn't be!". Please also scroll down where I write about the fact that dices are balanced only for professional usage like casinos. But K6 dice is a block that have every 2 edges parallel or perpendicular to each other and with all sides with a square shape - so called cube.
I would be also very glad if You would stop telling me how i can or can not use things that I paid for, so please stick your business if the question is clearly addressed "@Jamie", unless he wrote back and I did not noticed.

If you didn't see that, you just didn't read properly. (I mean, can happen to anybody, there was a lot of information to absorb. Just admit your mistake and stop blaming somebody else for overlooking information.)
No, Serious Poulp are not going to produce a new set of dice so you can use them in a different game that's not theirs. For their game they work perfectly.

Now delivery of Wave 2 has been postponed, is Serious Poulp also looking into the option to deliver the playing mat in a tube with charging those interested with extra shipping costs instead of sending over the playing mat foiled in a square box? (The feedback on the playing mat was not that great, so I have already lowered my expectations.)

      @Jamie:
Hi, You are still avoid 2 points that were asked about after 1 wave.
(If You don't know or it is under discussion just let us know about that with info when You can give an answer, but please don't keep silence about it)
There is no answer on 2 other issues:
      1. Dice Bones that are broken (we made a test of 10 000 rolls with a friend and result shows that dice result are not random anymore - the probability of 1/6 of each result is not close enough) What with them ?
      2. Game mat is not stretching out after 25 days on the floor already, any thermal or other attempts to force it may broke it for good. Currently it makes more problems during game that helps, so it opposite to the reason of obtaining it. We tried and had to resign from using it. Much more comfortable is on a table without than struggling with cards that You move every time when trying to put next near to the break lines. Some statement about it or working and safe solution to straight it up ?

@jamie: can we get assurances there won't be any color difference between versions of the last KS and this KS?
