The 7th Continent is a cooperative exploration and survival board game with mechanics inspired by the adventure books where "you are the hero”.
On your own or in a team of up to 4 players, set off on an epic adventure and attempt to lift the curses that were placed upon you during your first expedition to the continent.
Progress at your own pace through this mysterious land, building the board piece by piece with numbered Terrain and Event cards.
If you want to live through the many dangers of the 7th Continent and lift your curse, you will have to use all your survival skills: craft items, hunt and fish to get food, learn how to benefit from your environment, spend experience points to acquire new abilities, etc.
Unlike other board games, The 7th Continent will take you through many, MANY hours of adventure as you explore the continent to lift your curse… or die trying! To make this manageable, the game includes a simple yet effective save system that allows you to quickly interrupt the game at any time and have it ready for your next session, just like in a video game.
“Absolutely phenomenal! A big huge epic adventure… It tells an inviting, interesting, wonderful story… There are REAL consequences to your actions!” RAHDO - Rahdo Runs Through
“The 7th Continent is giving us a gaming experience unlike anything else we have seen before. I've no idea where this story is going to go. We don't know the ending, we don't know the journey. What's clear is, I am really looking forward to taking that journey.” RICKY ROYAL - Box of Delights
“As a child, I read and played every Fighting Fantasy book I could get my hands on. The child like grin on my face as I played 7th Continent reminded me of just how much fun it can be to disappear into the wonder of my own imagination. Absolutely the best solo game experience I have had in a long, long time, and possibly ever.” LANCE MYXTER – Undead Viking
"There are many adventure game books in which you become a hero. But there is only one Table Top adventure game where you become a cursed, lost, survivalist hero." BARRY DOUBLET - Dice Tower
“This will be my second Kickstarter (The first one wasn’t really a KS, I just lent 100 bucks to a friend - Steve Jackson - in exchange for a box that doesn’t fit on any shelving unit known to man).” CROC – Space Cowboys
- Play solo or in a team of up to 4 players,
- Relive the sensation of the adventure books where “you are the hero” that thrilled so many of us in our childhood,
- No dice rolls! Make difficult choices and face the consequences thanks to the game's innovative mechanics that determine success or failure!
- 1000+ 8cmx8cm cards with hundreds of original artworks,
- 1000+ minutes of thrilling adventure in a single game,
- 30 seconds to set-up the game, 30 seconds to save it!
- Join the expedition partway through if you missed the beginning of the adventure or died prematurely,
- Live a different adventure every time! There are dozens of random events and several alternatives for a single numbered card.
- The game remembers your actions. If you kill a NPC, he will remain dead for the rest of the game and any option that you would have had by letting him live will be gone… forever!
1907 - You, a famous explorer, have just returned from the first expedition to the seventh continent, a mysterious land that was recently discovered off the coast of Antarctica and probably the very last terra incognita in the world.
You are recovering from your adventure when, whilst reading the day’s newspaper, you realise that several other members of the expedition have disappeared suddenly, for unknown reasons. Coincidentally, you have been lethargic for a few days, feeling feverish and finding it very hard to manage even simple tasks. You must face the facts: an evil is consuming you from within. Your body is wracked with convulsions as you contemplate what mysterious ailment is overtaking you.
At nightfall, you fall into a restless sleep without knowing that, for you, another adventure is about to begin.
You start each new game by choosing one of the characters available to you. Each one comes with his own set of Idea cards that represent his skills and personality (adventurer, herbalist, doctor, mercenary, etc.).
“The Voracious Goddess”, “The Icy Maze”, “Swamp of Madness” - Choose which curse (or curses!) has been put on you among those included in the base box (3) or those in the expansions (3).
Your goal? Find out how to lift the curses you have chosen and then purge your soul of them. Each curse offers a very different adventure and will take you to different places. Obtain what cannot be reached, find that which is forever hidden, achieve what cannot be achieved, etc.
Do you have what it takes?
You are now ready to begin your unexpected adventure. Similar to the books where "you are the hero”, you will explore the continent by putting numbered Terrain and Permanent event cards into play, which will gradually form the game board.
Forests, deserts, caves and mountains, you will visit dozens of different locations during your adventure and encounter random events that coincide with your location.
To progress through the game, you will perform the actions available on the Terrain card you are standing on, the Event cards attached to it, the Character, Idea, State and Bonus cards in your hand and the Item cards in your inventory.
In order to perform these actions, you will use the Action Deck that contains your ideas and abilities and serves as your life force. Every action makes you draw a certain number of cards from the Action Deck. These cards provide a variable amount of successes and you must obtain a specified number of them in order to succeed.
Failing at performing an action may have terrible consequences and cause you to get negative State cards, forcing you to discard cards from the Action Deck, therefore reducing your life force.
Want to stack the odds in your favour? You may choose to draw more cards from the Action Deck to get more achievements. However, every card in the Action Deck is a bit of your life force, so when the Action Deck is exhausted every action could be your last!
Thankfully, you may add Idea cards to your hand when performing actions. Your Bonus, Item cards, and the help from your companions will make things easier for you. Especially when it comes to decreasing the number of cards you must draw to perform an action or by increasing your chances of succeeding.
The 7th Continent is a strange land with many paranormal events, hostile creatures and inhospitable locations. You will have to use your best survival skills to live through the many threats you will face in this land, and eventually lift your curses.
Find or craft items to help you make it through risky situations or access locations that would be unreachable without them.
Find food, by hunting or fishing, in order to get back some life force, returning Action cards from the discard pile to your Action deck.
Look carefully at your environment, it contains many clues and hidden numbers that can help you discover the Continent’s secret locations.
Boost your Action Deck with Advanced idea cards you can gain by spending the precious Experience points you have earned by the sweat of your brow.
And discover many other surprises along your journey!

Two guys, one passion for playing and designing games. And one of us happens to be pretty handy with a crayon too ;)
We founded Serious Poulp in 2010 so we could persue our dreams of publishing the games we designed.
We started with Steam Torpedo, a tactical Submarine combat game for 2 players with quite a significant metagame potential and combo mechanic.
Next up was 8 Masters' Revenge, a martial arts game for 1 to 4 players that revamps the standard combat game genre.
Now, it's time for The 7th Continent, our third game, the one we've been working full-time on for the past 2 years.
Ludovic Roudy & Bruno Sautter
Two friends since childhood, we love all kinds of games!
We’ve been working together for almost 15 years in the digital communication agency we created in 2002, then as Serious Poulp which we founded in 2010 when the temptation to publish games became too strong to resist.
Role-playing games and gamebooks played a significant part in both our childhoods. Bruno was 5 when “The Warlock of Firetop Mountain” was published. Ludo was 11 and already had a few prototypes on the go (one of which would eventually become The 7th Continent!).
We've been inspired by many great works during our lives whether they be from board games, role-playing games or video games. When we started out in the board gaming industry, we naturally brought all these elements with us.
We are not only the designers of the 7th Continent: Ludovic also creates all the illustrations and visual elements for our games and Bruno supervises production.
Jamie “WhelpSlayer” Johnson
Jamie is the community manager for The 7th Continent.
A passionate gamer and journalist and far too English for his own good. He currently works for the French-based board gaming site Tric Trac. He is an aficionado of any tabletop game featuring toy soldiers. You may have already heard of him from his work on the incredibly successful CONAN board game by Monolith.
The chat with Mr Jamie
As passionate gamers, we imagined a game that didn’t exist, as far as we were aware, and that we would love to play.
This game is The 7th Continent: an exploration and adventure game offering many hours of solo or cooperative fun with friends.
However, we wouldn’t have started working on The 7th Continent without the prospect of launching it on Kickstarter.
BECAUSE of the investment that this game implies. Be it in terms of time spent on its conception, design or illustrations. It can’t be supported by a small company like Serious Poulp without a successful Kickstarter campaign.
BECAUSE after 2 years of work on this project we cannot, unlike with our other games, continue without ensuring a certain degree of success through Kickstarter first.
BECAUSE our goal is to not publish a standard run-of-the-mill board game. We want The 7th Continent to be an adventure of epic proportions with the largest game board ever created! We can do this with your support and all the stretch goals that we hope to unlock during the campaign.
We’ve invested over 2 years of our lives and a significant part of our savings into this project, the first "choose-your-own-path" exploration board game. Now we need to know if all this work is going to bear fruit. If this campaign is not successful then The 7th Continent game will never see the light of day. Any possible commercial release will also depend on the level of the campaign’s success.
We’ve done all we can to make this dream come true, now the rest is up to you!
We are aiming to deliver the game in October 2016.
We will be charging shipping after the campaign ends, which will be managed through the Pledge Manager.
Here is a list of rough estimates for shipping a standard game package (between 2 and 3 kg). Please acknowledge that these are just estimates and that we’ll do our best to get you the best shipping deal possible.

Area 2 - Canada, Australia, Rest of EU countries: Between €15 and €23 [update]

If the project is funded, we will start production in summer 2016. Once all of these tasks are complete. We are aiming to deliver the game in October to coincide with the Essen game convention.
We will regularly let you know how the project is going and what remains to be done.
*There are hundreds of original artworks, and Ludovic will be working full-time on this task over the coming months.
To our families and friends for their incredible support and patience as we created the cursed land of the 7th Continent.
To our proofreaders and translators who, if everything goes well, are going to be very busy, very soon.
To Olivier Nkweti for the great miniatures he created for the campaign.
To all the players who took part in a demo, for their advice and enthusiasm.
To the amazing Gary Chalk, Joe Dever, Didier Guiserix, Gary Gygax, Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone for their inspirational work.
And finally, to you, the backers, who are helping us make this dream a reality.
Thank you all! We wish you a not too gruesome demise in the land of The 7th Continent!
Risks and challenges
THIS IS OUR FIRST CAMPAIGN BUT NOT OUR FIRST BOARD GAME.
We have been in the gaming industry for several years now and have already published games that are available in many countries and languages (USA, France, Belgium, United Kingdom, Russia, etc.).
SMALL TEAM, HIGH MOTIVATION.
We are the authors, illustrator and publishers of all our games. We have been dedicated to The 7th Continent for over 2 years now. We will be concentrating on what we know and outsourcing other skills with industry professionals.
ZERO RISK DOESN’T EXIST. BUT IT’S STILL A LOT SIMPLER WITH CARDS.
Cards being the main component of The 7th Continent means that this project has a lower level of risk than others, particularly those with lots of miniatures.
That being said, outside of making sure that the game is properly prepared and choosing our partners wisely (printers, logistics, etc.), it is not impossible that we face delays from uncontrollable sources (curses, rafting accidents, attacks from giant bears, killer bees, etc). This may cause some delay in the delivery date but rest assured that, if this were to happen, we will keep you informed about the situation.
All pledges can be refunded up to the completion of the Pledge Manager, no questions asked.
If the refund is asked more than 60 days after the end of the Kickstarter campaign, 10% will be deducted from the amount (corresponding to the charges incurred by Kickstarter and Stripe, since we will not be refunded of them at that point), and the refund will have to be done via PayPal instead of the Credit Card you used on Stripe.
