  • A rich and immersive story that really draws you in and keeps you coming back for more.
  • The Morale System. Not only will you have to keep the character alive, but you also must maintain their mental health.
  • Little to no hand holding. You will have the ability to find all the resources you need to solve every puzzle in the game. Just sometimes you may have to think outside the box a bit.
  • Hunting, fishing, and gathering.
  • Rockclimbing, there's not always an easy path to your destination.
  • Sandbox mode, with permadeath! How long can you survive?
  • Dynamic weather, wildlife, and time of day. All these factors will impact the overall health of the character.
  • Community driven features! As a community you will be helping us steer this game. All feedback will be taken into serious consideration.
  • So much more to come!

Fringe Theory spawned from the desire to create a game that has a deep and immersive story, inventive survival gameplay, and beautiful graphics. As a team we want to build a game that doesn’t shy away from serious issues. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is something a couple of our team members have had direct encounters with. Men and Women everyday struggle to keep their nightmarish memories out of their heads and we want to exemplify that through our story. But why make a game? Because they are immersive, they trigger multiple senses in the brain and really bring the story to life in front of your eyes. So instead of just surviving by collecting your basic needs, the player will also be addressing the characters mental health. As night falls morale drops, but success in finding a new location or simply lighting a fire will immediately increase morale. All of this exploration will be aided by the beautiful art style created by our team. We hope you’ll join us on this journey, it’s going to be a plethora of fun.

Inspiration comes in different forms. We take inspiration from a piece of art we stumble on across on the web, a game we play, a natural form we encounter on a walk in the park. By trying to recreate your impression and emotional response, you put a part of yourself into your art and end up with something completely different. That's how Fringe Theory's style was born - an attempt to create a flat, contrast, cut from colored paper cartoony look for a 3D world created an atmosphere deeper than we ever anticipated, the kind that makes you feel it - which is exactly what our goal is.

“The visual design is absolutely beautiful.” - AlphaBetaGamer.com

“Fringe Theory looks to have a unique art style that threads both reality and fantasy into its colorful weave” - HeyPoorPlayer.com

Our visuals get compared to some of the best games in the genre - a lot - even though our style set in before those games came out, the comparison is extremely flattering. Do you like what we’ve made in 7 months? Then we’ll probably impress you even more in the future.

There’s no easy way to explain what a mental condition like Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is. But even though we cannot make the player experience PTSD, we’ll make him understand it - through gameplay. The storm washed two of you onto an island where a war was raging some 70 years ago. Every step you take reminds you of your Middle East deployment. Everything here is out to get you, but you are your own worst enemy, the biggest threat to yourself . When PTSD psychotic episodes happen, the result can - and will - be messy. You’ve lived with this for quite some time and have learned to cope some, but now you're without your medicine. But there’s two of you in here, supporting each other - so talk to each other. Every bit of normal human contact is therapeutic. It’ll make things easier if you find some radios. You don’t like darkness, or small spaces, and there’s a whole lot of them on the island, and you’ll be forced to go there. Wherever you go - bring a light with you, “for the night is dark and full of terrors”.

“The complex itself makes you feel as though the surrounding shadows are slowly engulfing you.” - AlphaBetaGamer.com

It’s all about keeping your spirits high. Find food, drinkable water, a safe place to lay your head, make a fire, get enough rest, change tasks often (but not too often) or solve one of the mysteries of this island - and you’ll be okay. In other words, evade stress at all costs. Stress lowers morale, and you lose your focus when on the edge - you fail at the most common tasks, you can’t think straight, you can’t see straight, and your morale drops even lower. You know what happens next.

Although in single player mode you can switch between characters anytime, the game will feature cooperative play. Be it sandbox or story mode, we are planning to give players the opportunity to play together - online or locally via split-screen, with second player being able to drop in-drop out anytime during the game and substitute for AI controlling the second character.

Although LionRoar Games is quite young, the history of it’s team extends much further into the past. The team started as a group of friends who really enjoyed playing and talking about games together. We would play ever local co-op game we could get out hands on, and one day just off the cuff someone mentioned how cool it would be to make our own game. Over a year later two of those friends Christian and Stephan decided to pull the trigger and together launched LionRoar, and thus began the journey to Fringe Theory.  We know giving your money isn't easy, so we want you to be as informed as possible. Below you can find a distribution chart of how we will be spending your money. If you have any further questions feel free to ask!

Risks and challenges

It’s inherently risky to trust your money to an unknown developer, and the challenges we face to make the amazing game we’ve dreamt of a reality are many. Thankfully we have a team who are dedicated to the cause, we have overcome small challenges all along the way to reach where we are now. We’ll continue to grow and face these challenges head on.
We will be in constant communication with our community via social media and emails; if there’s a problem, y’all will be the first to know of it and our solution.

We have already been very successful on Steam Greenlight and have managed to create a small, but dedicated community of fans. We are fully dedicated to making Fringe Theory a reality.

Making games is, by nature, a high-risk process, especially when you are trying to innovate "outside the box", with a small team and with limited resources.

We believe we're taking the right steps to mitigate the inherent risks, and also to ensure the money you pledge us is managed responsibly:

1 - We're building on established technology, UE4 is a wonderful platform and has an extremely helpful community of developers around it to help mitigate any problems.

2 – Our team is built on a solid committed group. Each member has a focus and helps any other member of the group as needed. This group can and will be supplemented, in a responsible way, by key freelancers as they are needed. This means we can be extremely flexible, have positive and fair collaborations with our freelance partners, and scale up and down in a sustainable, low-impact way.
