One of a kind cartoon drawings customized just for you!
- I'm offering drawings based on you, a family member, pet or original character as a cartoon. Visual references (i.e. photos) are preferred, but a written description of what you look like works if you would rather. Just keep in mind that the more information you give me, the more accurate the drawing will be to whomever it's meant to depict! (Note: all subject matter will be G-rated in nature)
- All drawings will be done in a cartoon style. This means outlines, stylized features and proportions, and color-block shading like in the image at the top of the page. I am capable of imitating other artists' drawing styles if you would like, but I reserve the right to refuse a requested style if I so choose.
- The fun of being rendered as a cartoon is that cartoon-you can be as fantastical as you wish! Perhaps you'd like to see yourself in a costume you never could (or would?) wear in real life. Or maybe you'd like to see Fido as some sort of mythical creature. It's all up to you and your imagination. Example genres include: Superhero, Fantasy, Science fiction, Steampunk, Historical, Monster, and Western. Of course, the choice of a genre is optional. Drawings grounded in reality are just as fun!
Will you draw me as a character from X?
I will take requests for this in the sense that you (or your subject) look like you maybe could be from the same world as X. I will not draw you as a specific existing character from X. (Example: I will not draw you AS Princess Jasmine. If you'd like to look like a character from Agrabah, that may be possible. The idea is to respect the rights of other artists/corporations.)
Why are you doing all this?
Taking requests like this encourages me to think outside the box and expand my skills. I called the project 100 Character Designs because it is going to give me a chance to explore different character types and create a wide range of unique character drawings. Its good exercise for me as an artist and its fun for others! I also hope this project will help me become a known entity, which will translate to more work in the future. Plus, I tend to be good at this sort of thing.
Where is all that money going?
I specialize in digital art. That means my craft is dependent on software and technology. Any funds I receive will be put towards new software (to allow me to achieve effects current software will not) and better technology (like a new drawing tablet.)

Risks and challenges
The biggest risk in this project is related to requests backers make for work based on the work of a third party. These types of requests fall in a grey area of copyright and trademark laws. If anyone decides I've violated their rights, I'll be in for a world of hurt.
Other risks include catastrophe (death of computer, loss of power, loss of internet) and technology errors (loss of a drawing due to software crash.) Technology errors usually mean a setback, which could mean a late delivery to you. I will do everything I can to avoid problems and to rectify things should anything occur.
Challenges include drawing fatigue, time management, and complex requests. I have heard some extremely complex requests in the past and the more the client plans out the drawing, the harder it can be to create. Details of how a character should look or what they should wear are helpful. Specific requests of what the characters should be doing get tricky.
That said, I have been drawing all my life and I have spent more time on these types of drawings than anything else. I have enough talent, skill, and experience, to draw almost anything and a tenacity to see the work through to the end. I've learned to recognize when fatigue is setting in and a break is necessary and to take advantage of free time, or create it if needed.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
