Good Sugar Baking is dedicated to helping others by baking cookies and giving a percentage of every sale to a nonprofit.
I've always loved baking. Finding ingredients in a cupboard and coming up with a random dessert dish has been a hobby of mine for as long as I can remember. There have often been times that I've had dinner and thought, "why can't that be a cookie?" I would be a liar if I told you I haven't considered a nacho cookie or a pizza cookie yet. And you'd be lying if you didn't just give a nacho cookie a second thought.
I decided to set up my own bakery when I sat down and thought about what it is that I am truly passionate about. When it came down to it, I had been looking at getting back into the nonprofit world for years and knew I needed to include nonprofits and charities in with whatever was ahead of me.
Good Sugar Baking started with the idea of being an at-home bakery process where I would sell to family and friends, go to local events and start off super small. Although it is still going to be small to begin with, in order to grow I need to use a commercial kitchen space with more equipment which creates more expenses...but also means more cookies for you! I also need licenses to be able to sell wholesale and retail. Everything that I've done so far has been out of my own pocket, but that can only take me so far.
What’s so special about Good Sugar Baking's cookies?
Good Sugar Baking's beginning flavors will include: chocolate chip cookies n cream, peanut butter crunch, tomato, and banana cream. I want to add more cookies as time goes on and remove cookies that aren’t so popular (or too weird, like tomato? It's actually really good, try it!). The hope is to eventually add a “BYOC” option where you can feel like a bakery with the ability to build a cookie however you desire! The ingredients are of the highest quality, giving you amazingly good cookies with a homemade feel to them. I have been testing all of the different kinds of cookies out on friends and strangers and all have approved!
So, where’s your money going?
As a customer and nonprofit donor, you are helping Good Sugar Baking get off the ground. Proceeds from our Kickstarter campaign will be used to finalize all licensing, small business classes, and kitchen space, along with initial ingredients, packaging and shipping costs. Not only will you be one of the first to support Good Sugar Baking and enjoy the beginning stages, but you will get some pretty cool stuff alongside that and the ability to watch Good Sugar Baking grow!

Risks and challenges
I’ve spent months testing different cookies out on friends, family and strangers, smoothing out the kinks on the weird ones (uh, tomato cookie) so that I can provide you with the highest quality, best tasting cookies.
The biggest risk and challenge that I face is getting the funds to pay for renting a kitchen space and initial cookie ingredients. I want to be nation-wide as an option for gifts, parties, office meetings and special events. I also plan on selling my cookies to local businesses such as breweries, food trucks and restaurants in the Denver area.
I already have all the nitty-gritty details down, such as price points for cookies, website, social media, content and a business plan. Now I just need the funds to get the project in motion. With the help of small business courses, Colorado state officials, nonprofit partnerships and other small business owners, Good Sugar Baking is set up to be a successful bakery.
