WHAT IS THE BR WALLS PROJECT?
The mission of the BR Walls Project is to stimulate creativity and economic growth in our city by having artists paint key landmark walls in our downtown area.
This is a collaborative effort between various artists and progressive communities, including The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge, Baton Rouge Gallery, Mentorship Academy, McGlynn Glisson & Mouton Law Firm, LAMAR Advertising Company & we are adding more to our list every day. The BR Walls Project board is the nucleus for a group of over 50 community leaders, building owners, and artists, all seeking to transform the urban landscape of the city. Our mission is to foster creativity that inspires community change, unity and growth. Imagine the faded and empty wall spaces in the downtown area of Baton Rouge transformed into Art. Our organization, the BR Walls Project aims to do just that, but we need your help. The BR Walls Project will enhance the architectural beauty of the downtown buildings and expand the burgeoning visual arts scene here. Click on 'UPDATES' tab for more info

ARTISTS SUBMIT YOUR WORK
Interested artists have from now until April 30th to submit their work online at BR Walls Project. Winners will be announced on May 1st and will be selected by a jury of fellow artists and directors of local museums.
PHASE I & II - Partnership with LAMAR ADVERTISING COMPANY
The project will be completed in two phases. In Phase One, artists will transform the existing beige and grey walls of Downtown into modern works of art. The first murals will be painted in the Arts District along Fourth St. then spread throughout the rest of downtown. In Phase Two, a mobile art installation component will be added in partnership with the Lamar Advertising Company. The Baton Rouge based company will print artwork on large, vinyl banners that fasten to buildings creating an outdoor gallery setting.
This mobile extension of the mural project will open the submissions process to all visual art disciplines including fine art, graphic design, and photography.
ARTIST RENDITION

HOW WILL WE USE THE MONEY RAISED?
With your donations, we can hire artists and provide them with supplies to make the walls come alive! Phase I of the project will be to raise funds for the following materials and labor in order to make the magic happen: power-washing tools, primer, paint, paintbrushes, artists fees, scaffolding, tarps, permits, insurance and promoting the project to maintain momentum.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE REST OF THE BR COMMUNITY & OTHER CITIES?
This enhancement of the downtown landscape will reflect the progressive endeavors already happening everyday inside these buildings. Our hope is that this will lay the groundwork for future projects as we bring together the following cultures in BR: Live Music, Fashion, Art, DJ/Dance, Student Organizations. Food & Drink, Running/Fitness, Social Cause, Children's Art & Music Programs, International Community...and more.
Phase II will be to create an open-source blueprint online for other organizations to utilize around our city and beyond. In other words, if you love this idea we are encouraging you to "steal" it! We would love for other cities to expose their arts culture into the public realm and take it outside of the buildings & galleries.
