Hi! Thanks for taking a look at my project. As you can see, I'd love to publish a brand-new book of paintings of my home town, Bath.
This will be my second book about the city. I published 'Brown's Bath' in 2008, and I'm down to my last couple of boxes. Rather than reprint, I decided it better to start from scratch (my work's moved on in ten years) and create a brand-new hardback gift book, to match the format and design of my recent London book.
I've been capturing the city for twenty years now, always painting from life in all weathers, so I've built up quite a selection of images to choose from.
The book will feature 130+ paintings and drawings, as well as stories and annecdotes 'from the street'. I hope Bath's residents and visitors will enjoy this celebration of the city, as well as fellow artists and art lovers.
My London book started life as a Kickstarter project, so I'm turning again to you - my crowdfunding chums - to help me make this happen. The team that produced the London book are poised to work their magic on this project, but there are not-unsubstantial upfront costs associated with printing a high-quality colour hardback gift book, so I'm hoping you'll be able to lend me your support in return for one of the following rewards...
As well as the book itself, I've got a whole host of other goodies for you to choose from including limited edition prints, original oil paintings and the chance to spend a day painting with me. Or, if you're feeling really altruistic, you can make a small pledge in return for nothing more than my gratitude. If you want a combination or permutation of rewards items that's not covered by the packages listed, drop me a message and we'll figure something out.
Bath: Paintings by Peter Brown. 156 pages crammed with 130+ paintings and drawings, along with accompanying annecdotes to give you additional context and insight. Kickstarter price: £25 (RRP will be £30 upon publication).
2019 wall calendar. A painting of Bath for every month. A great Christmas gift, or stick it on your very-own fridge door.
London: Paintings by Peter Brown - the fruits of my first Kickstarter project. Same format as my new Bath book, so a companion volume for anyone out there who hasn't already got a copy!
Contains all of the above PLUS 'Brown's Bath' (my 2008 Bath book); 'My Indian Travels' and a book of London painting postcards.
Limited Edition Print (1 of 50)
A rare opportunity to own a signed, numbered, limited edition. 18" x 24" giclée print of the cover artwork for the book. I generally don't really sell prints - you could say my prints are rarer than my originals! Here are the specs from the printer, for those who understand them: Cannon 4000 Pro printer, on Hahnemühle Photo Rag Ultra Smooth 100% Cotton Rag, pH neutral, acid-free art paper. 12-colour Lucia Pro ink which is colour fast for 80+ years.
You can choose to receive the print and my new Bath book; or the print and book bundle, which works out as great value.
Paint with Pete The Street (that's me!)
Another rare opportunity: I offered this as a reward on my London book Kickstarter, and was delighted that people actually wanted to hang out with me for a day's painting! This time I'm offering two outings: one in Bath [SORRY! ALL BATH SPACES BOOKED!] and one by the coast (probably Devon or Dorset) with up to 5 spaces available on each day, so you'll get to meet other plein air enthusiasts too. (lunch provided; travel and expenses not included; date to be arranged to suit all participants; all abilities welcome.) We had great fun last time, so don't be shy!
Original oil paintings
"Beckford’s Tower, Snow, 2018"
Oil on board, framed, 12" x 10" - a new one, painted earlier this year. Price tag would normally be £2,700, but I'll let it go here for £1,950. I'll even throw in a copy of my new Bath book; can't say fairer than that!
"Over Pulteney Bridge, the Day Grayson Perry Came to Town" *SORRY, THIS HAS NOW BEEN SNAPPED-UP!*
That's all folks!
Thanks for reading this far. I hope there's something to tickle your fancy in amongst the selection of rewards. Do drop me a message if there's a combination of individual items that's not listed; or if you have any other questions.
All that's left to say is THANK YOU for your interest and support!
Risks and challenges
As with any publishing project there are risks and challenges, but I'm feeling quietly confident as I have several published books, including 'London: Paintings by Peter Brown' which started life here on Kickstarter, so I understand the process. I'll be using the same team for editorial, design, marketing, sales, etc so everything should run like clockwork (touch wood and all that...)
I plan on partnering with Sansom & Co, an established independent art publisher - who were also on board for my London book - on the print/production side to ensure a high-quality finished product.
There's no shortage of paintings for me to choose from for inclusion! The challenge will be choosing the best selection for the book, but I've already started thinking about this and am looking forward to revisiting scenes from the past, as well as more recent works. And I need to write some interesting words . . .
We've got a schedule drawn-up, ready to start as soon as the Kickstarter ends. Lots to do, but very-much achievable. Our aim is to have the books ready by October 2018, i.e. in good time for Christmas.
