Travis and Jack McClane finally arrived on foot to the streets of their childhood neighborhood: no amount of money would have persuaded a taxi driver to drive there. It was already bad when the brothers left, after the death of their parents, but things are much worse now. The streets were torn apart and full of garbage, there was not a soul in sight, Burger Kong’s ads glowed brighter than the lampposts and, if the rumors they heard were true…
"Hey, you", said a voice from the corner.
Soon, a dozen different punks looking like thugs stepped in their way. They all had a fist holding a chain on their vests.
"It seems that you haven't heard that to enter the Bloody Chains’ territory you must pay a toll," said the one who seemed to be the leader.
Travis dropped his backpack and cracked his knuckles with a smile: "Oh, don't worry, we will give you all the toll you want and then some." Jack grabbed a lead pipe: "and with a little luck we will still have some left to clean all the garbage that you’ve brought to the neighborhood”.
MegaMetroCity is a thematic board game based on the classic beat'em video games that were so successful in the 80’s arcades. All the game mechanics, characters, background and references will bring you back to those frenetic video games, do not miss the player reviews video below.

In MegaMetroCity, each round is divided in two phases: the Thug and the Hero phases.
Start by marking the current turn in the CASSETTE TAPE (“time is money, buddy!”), then, draw a thug card and new thugs will spawn on the map, ready to challenge the Heroes. The thugs then move and/or attack the Heroes in range, and you can trust us when we say that the Bloody Chains are heavy hitters!
When it comes to the Heroes, each player decides what to do, starting with the one who has the TAPE that turn. A hero can both move and perform actions such as attacking, pushing, jumping, using weapons, interacting with furniture, trading objects, activating their special techniques, using turbos… and although some of these things may not cause direct harm to the thugs, they will hopefully hurt a lot worse later on.
When all the Heroes have taken their turn, the player with the CASSETTE TAPE hands it to the next player to the right and a new round starts.
And remember that if there are no miniatures on the board… it’s time for side scrolling!
One of the most important mechanics of the game is side scrolling. In all the video games from this time, side scrolling from left to right while defeating enemies to overcome your goals was a common game mechanic. And that’s why the board in this board game also scrolls, which you must not forget in order to advance!
The board is formed of two parts: a front and a back tile. When the back tile is empty (there are neither Heroes nor thugs), discard it, slide the front tile back and draw a new front tile. A new section of the city will be presented to you, and you can continue advancing through your quest.
The Heroes have different attributes, turbo points, powerful techniques and an exclusive special technique. During setup, players must choose how to upgrade their character; strategy and teamwork start even before giving the first blow! With these upgrades, you can increase your attributes or get special abilities which we call "techniques". Only by increasing your attributes can you create a "tank" character to hold attacks like no other, or a hero so fast that you can move across the entire board in just one turn. In addition, thanks to the techniques your hero can even launch energy balls, perform spectacular wrestling grabs and teleport, among other things.
Each technique is unique, which guarantees that every Hero will be one-of-a-kind each game.
As was common in many beat'em up games, the Heroes have a special technique. These techniques require spending some life points, "Damn Bloody Chains, I will put an end to you or die trying!" In many cases, these attacks are so brutal that you can "clean" a large section of the street (board), or get a much needed tactical advantage. Each Hero has their own special technique, different from the rest, and knowing when and how to use each one of them is essential in order to overcome the challenges that MegaMetroCity presents you. "Jack! It's a trap!" "True, I feel a hurricane is coming... a Fist Hurricane!"
The various stages presented in the game have different objectives, forcing the players to adapt and use different game strategies. These objectives may go from classics like beating the Final Boss that awaits you at the end of the street, to unloading a car full of plutonium, enduring waves of thugs or going through all the establishments in the neighborhood to find a specific item, among other things. The amusing consequences of manipulating military-grade plutonium without protection will be dealt with in future instalments of the game…
There are many other references to the classic beat'em up arcades: you can only use weapons for a limited time before discarding them; you can throw at your enemies the barrels or trash cans that you come across the streets, or break them to get a weapon or a slice of pizza to recover life points. And you may spend at the arcades the hard earned pocket money you will get, to bring a knocked out hero back to the game. "Final Stage! I need a coin! Somebody, please lend me a coin!!!".
As if that were not enough, to make things even crazier and funnier, different events will trigger during the game, which will modify the current game situation for better or worse. There are unique items, so powerful and retro they will get your hair carded. And the thugs will spawn at the most unexpected places to hit without mercy. "I don’t think that van is here to sell ice cream…”
Here you can download the latest version of the rulebook draft, revised and improved from last time and with new game mechanics.
Now you can leave a single item on the floor after collecting it, either for later use or for an ally to pick it up. No longer do you have to waste that delicious hamburger that you found in the garbage container, you can now leave it on the floor for any of your friends. Everyone knows that the Big Kong burger is tastier after resting a day in the trash.
In addition, Heroes will now have a Turbo bar that fills up as they land critical hits. You can spend Turbo points to get extra actions or movements, but if you completely fill the bar, you can spend it all to unleash your Turbo Attack.
We have uploaded a demo game of Megametrocity for Tabletop Simulator, available on Steam. You will all be able to test the components and game mechanics of MegaMetroCity. In this demo, you can find one of the triplets that lead the Bloody Chains. To do this, the demo offers you four different heroes from the ones included in the Core Box of Megametrocity, which you may customize at will.
During the development of this Project, we were very lucky to count with the collaboration of many YouTubers to present you some previews and gameplay videos of the game:
And if you are comfortable in German, in the following link you will find the review that Spielkult did of the game, with a final average score of 8/10:
MegaMetroCity is one of the largest cities on the planet, a place where mega-corporations control the destinies of millions of people. While the wealthy neighborhoods have extreme security, the more humble districts remain forsaken. The forces of law and order only enter the worst neighborhoods in the most extreme cases, and only if it suits the orders and agenda of the mega-corporations.
But our Heroes are here to bring back order by kicking some asses.
Jack McClane, an earnest young man with a tragic past who, after hard training, has returned to the neighborhood where he grew up, only to find it full of thugs. He is not going to let things stand as they are…
Travis McClane, Jack’s little brother. Although he is a bragging womanizer, he does not hesitate to defend those in need. Years of hard training alongside his brother have given him the tools to act when necessary.
Blaze, a young woman whose combat skill and bad temper make her the only person in the neighborhood feared by the gang members.
Big T is a mountain of muscles and the owner of the Scoop Motor car shop, where the best cars in town are tuned. He is fed up of the Bloody Chains scaring away the few customers he still has.
And those are the Heroes that must stop the thugs, the Bloody Chains gang who is now in control of the neighborhood where they grew up: extorting, stealing, raping and killing at will, but nobody does anything about it, much less the corrupt city police.
Punks, they are the most numerous thugs among the ranks of the Bloody Chains. They are not the strongest or the smartest, but they can get you in trouble at any time.
Roller Girls, the most aggressive rollers in town. They are fast as lightning & hard as steel.
MuscleMen, these giant bodybuilding steroid-addicts can break a person in two with a single blow. They are slow but very dangerous face-to-face.
Chains, they are lunatics who carry huge chains to sow chaos on the streets of MegaMetroCity.
And the worst of them all are the bosses who will face our heroes:
Sid has dedicated his life to his greatest passion, becoming a master on the art of ass-kicking.
Jett is the most brutal roller girl ever seen, capable of crushing a full Roller Derby team on her own.
Lars is always dragging a heavy wrecking ball he likes to kiss and call Mary; he is the former leader of the Bloody Chains.
Evaristo is a true mountain of muscles, the champion of the illegal fighting league and the infamous record holder of most permanent injuries caused.
And the final bosses are none other than the triplets, the huge sadistic brutes that lead the Bloody Chains. Rumors have it that they were born this way because their mother drank too much HyperCola during their pregnancy. All of them tower over 8’ tall. Wallace is an ultra-violent giant that suffers from uncontrollable rage outbursts. Neill is a sadist that enjoys cutting everyone, even himself. Bogart stands above them thanks to his intelligence and ambition, but he is even more violent and cruel than his brothers.
CyberCop is the perfect anticrime shock force, but he has now rebelled against the mega-corporation and lives as a renegade warrior in the streets of the city, putting an end to his persecutors with the same deadly efficiency with which he dealt with crime back in the day.
Anti-riot robots created by Dr.Laian, capable of violently and efficiently containing and dispersing large crowds of protestors. Its artificial intelligence is so basic that they are comparable to the members of the Bloody Chains, which makes them just as easy to manipulate.
Dr.Laian’s enforcement arm, formerly known as Kowalski, was a crooked police officer who ended up being shot by the Yakuza. The good doctor picked up the pieces and fused flesh and metal, creating the perfect weapon to execute his plans.
Born with dangerous malformations and psychic powers that marked his life. Although these powers have always clouded his mind, he was able to overcome these thanks to his vast intelligence and iron will. Now, after achieving great success in different fields of science, he has become obsessed with the errors he committed during the CyberCop experiment.

Risks and challenges
Although this is BoomBox Games first project, not only are we eager to face the challenge, but we also have the support from a team of professionals who are experts in the process of producing and distributing board games. Most of the creative work is already finished, as shown by the prototypes that can be seen in the reviews and videos. That's why we are confident that the delivery will be carried out without issues in a timely manner. We will also count with the help and support of Kick & Go for the pledge manager and QM Logistics will help us handle the shipments. Also keep in mind that the final product could vary slightly or experience mild delays, especially if in our search for the highest quality something needs to be improved. All our efforts will be directed to create the best possible game experience and we will devote ourselves entirely to improve the final product.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
