We openened our little bakehouse in Leyland Street, Prescot almost 3 years ago with the intention of just selling cake. Within our first year of trading we realised our space wasn't big enough due to demand for more options including lunch, breakfast and our very popular afternoon teas.
We are regularly turning people away who want to sit in due to lack of space, whilst also turning people away who wanted to order celebration cakes due to popularity. We currently have a 4-6 week lead time on cake orders!
Opening a second premises, which is also directly behind our current shop, was the obvious option. We have been on the lookout for the perfect place for some time now so when we first saw this building, we immediately fell in love with it. We are sure you wil too!
Opening this new space will enable us to use The Bakehouse as just that.... a place where cakes are made, which will mean our team will grow and we can offer more celebration cakes to our wonderful customers.
The new premises is all on one floor so no extra steep steps to climb, plus with it being much more spacious we can offer a great space for those private parties you love to share with us including baby showers, hen parties, birthdays and even weddings!
Down In Albion, will be a place for breakfast, brunch, lunch and afternoon tea, and once we find our feet we will also offer an evening menu and be serving alcohol too.
Our new menu will include some gluten free and plant based options too and also a menu especially for the little ones!
We want it to be an extension of the bakehouse. Somewhere relaxed to come and drink coffee and meet friends. We want to retain the current feel of the bakehouse and take it around the corner!
We have an amazing courtyard garden too. Its a sun trap (when the suns out!) and will be an oasis in the middle of prescot! Its a secret hideaway!
So why the kickstarter? Well our bakehouse was launched with a cake oven and a small loan and we have built it up as we've gone along. For the new premises we need a proper commercial kitchen, which doesn't come cheap! We have already completed a great deal of the refurbishment of the actual building which was a bit of a mess when we first viewed it.
We are also in need of a boss oven, fridges, freezers, furniture, fixtures and fittings and also to kit out the beautiful garden space.
By backing our kickstarter, you will be helping us to bring something new to prescot and in return we give you goodies! So for example, you pledge £30, you get afternoon tea for two... assuming we hit our target that is!
We are really counting on you guys to help us reach our target so be extra kind and share, share, share!!
Risks and challenges
If we hit our target, we hope to be open during the month of August.
The risks and challenges which may affect our timescale include approvals from the local authorities for signage applications and licences.
Securing tradesmen we really want may take longer than expected and delay the start of work or installation. If things are delayed we will keep you all posted.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
