"A Very Fairy Door" Is a 32 page, beautifully illustrated 8X8 hardcover children's book that comes packaged with your very own fairy door to be hung on a wall, shelf or even secret garden. Written for ages 3 and up and for anyone who believes in make believing.
This is more than just your average children's book. What makes A Very Fairy Door special is the way it taps into a child's imagination.
The look in your child's eye when they wake to find that a fairy has visited is priceless. Once the door is hung, even the smallest of treasures left by the fairies bring the biggest of smiles!
More importantly it has helped children get through difficult transitions in their lives, such as illness, overcoming their fears, helping with bedtime routines, as rewards for extra good behaviours and well wishes to name a few.
Through clever rhymes this whimsical tale explores where these special doors come from, how the fairies choose a door and all the wonderful things that can happen to those that have A Very Fairy Door.
"A Very Fairy Door" provides year round imaginative fun for the whole family.
This project has been 2 years in the making. Ever since Kimberly Brown gifted a fairy door to her granddaughter, it stemmed Carlie's idea of combining a children's book with fairy door.
"I fell in love with the idea of the very fairy friends dwelling behind my daughters fairy door and wrote a book for others who may wish to have very fairies inhabit their homes. There's something so beautiful about interacting with your kids on this imaginary level. The pure joy and excitement they experience when they wake to see that a fairy has visited is priceless."
Carlie wrote A Very Fairy Door after she herself went through a difficult time, of overcoming cervical cancer. "This book really helped to take my focus from a negative place into a positive place and at the time my daughters fairy door provided a way in which I could interact with her, to bring light into her life through a really dark and challenging time"
It is very important to Carlie and Kim to give back to others who are also going through difficult times. Having worked at children's hospitals for the past 12 years Carlie knows that nobody needs this book and fairy door more than her patients and their families. And should the campaign reach it's goal, the girls plan to give an additional 5% of all preordered books to The Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in hopes that it will bring joy and smiles to little one's lives.
What people are saying...
"I can already imagine myself using it to help with things like potty training, the tooth fairy, dealing with fears (such as first day of school, or going for a needle) I think it has extra special purpose for children dealing with chronic/terminal illness. I would love to see a fairy door in every room of the children's hospital to lift little spirits and bring courage in very hard times. This is truly a special project that has the far reaching potential to provide inspiration, coping and celebration."
- Miranda Anderson
"I'm such a supporter of children's literacy- this has gotten me so excited. Ready to share with the masses... after I order my Kickstarter of course"
- Gerelina Zanini-Marsh
Inspired by the amazing work of Krista Smith, known to all you Saturated Canary digital stamp fans, we were overjoyed when she said yes to work on this amazing project with us! Krista sprinkled her fairy dust onto the pages and brought each of the 8 very fairies to life... from their basic birthstone colours, to their distinctive features. Her unique style is truly amazing and we are so thrilled that her first ever children's illustrated book is with us!
We're raising funds to self publish our first book which we, our friends and family are so excited about!
We have already invested our money to hire the illustrator and the door is currently being prototyped to get the exact look and feel that we want. However, in order to push the concept forward to print, manufacture and ship the product on our own it would be next to impossible to finance, thus we are trying to crowd source the $25,000 necessary to get the book and door to you, the supporter as inexpensively as possible.
For those of you unfamiliar with Kickstarter it is a great place for people to globally share their ideas and inspirations and with crowdfunding support to watch their projects come to life. Kickstarter is as interactive as A Very Fairy Door in that it offers numerous reward levels at which you can pledge. Basically the more you can contribute, the more exclusive the things that you get and the more copies of the book we in turn, can donate to those in need.
If our project should exceed it's $25,000 goal it would enable us to donate more (an additional 5% of all preordered books will be donated to the Childrens' Hospital of Eastern Ontarion) and help to take our project to the next level i.e. website, mobile apps, etc. for even more interactive play based opportunities for children. So please help us, to help make wishes and dreams come true. Check out the rewards and please help to support this amazing project!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!
We can only hope that you are as excited as we are about the very fairies and their journey into children's homes and hearts. Our biggest hope is that it brings wonderful memories to your homes that will last a lifetime!!!
A Very Fairy Thanks to everyone who makes this Kickstarter Campaign a success...
FRIENDS, FAMILY, SUPPORTERS and of course to my daughter AVERY for her love of all things fairy!!!
Risks and challenges
Kickstarter campaigns operate under an "all-or-nothing" funding model so if A Very Fairy Door doesn't reach it's goal at the end of 30 days, no money exchanges hands, and we will have to wait to get this fabulous book and door in production.
The book is fully written and illustrated. We're putting the finishing touches on the book layout, and have a printer all lined up. The door is currently undergoing the third and final stage of prototyping. All that leaves is the packaging, to get it to you lovely folks!
Although we are still hoping to get the book and door to our supporters by Christmas we have set a more realistic time frame of Feb 2016 (should there be delays with production.) We are currently on track and will be sure to keep you posted on progress.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
