I, Ellen Datlow, will be editing an unthemed, all original anthology of terror and supernatural fiction for ChiZine Publications.
Fearful Symmetries was published to great acclaim in May 2014. It's a finalist for the Bram Stoker Award and has gotten (mostly) great reviews. Thank you again, for being supporters (and you can buy more for presents!)

HI Sarah, it should be available around the same time the print book is released, or maybe a touch earlier-- which I believe will be the end of May. I'll let you know if I have the date wrong.

    2. Creator Sarah Richardson on April 24, 2014

I was wondering when the e-book version would be available for backers. Thanks!

    3. Creator Steve Jenkins on July 30, 2013

I never received the e-mail to choose the 2 ChiZine e-books. I'd like Filaria and Monstrous Affections.

    4. Creator Ellen Datlow on June 24, 2013

William, I'm so sorry . I will contact them immediately. When did you send in your ms?

    5. Creator William Cook on June 24, 2013

3 months and still no news from the Chizine crowd Ellen - quite disappointing. I know $100 is not considered much but I was really into this project and having not had any contact since, probably indicates what will happen overall :(

Looking at my Lori photo on my bookcase now, and loving it!

    7. Creator Ellen Datlow on March 24, 2013

Sorry, William. I've just passed your note on to Brett and Sandra. They should respond shortly. I"m not sure what happened to your original note (that I see below). I usually get an email alert from comments left here and I'm not sure I did this time.

Hi - I was a backer of the option that states:

"Bypass the ChiZine Publications slush pile. Send your novel manuscript to the publishers at ChiZine Publications, skipping the slush pile and getting read first . . ."

Just wanted to know how and when this option can be utilized?

Hi Drew, You must not have seen the update in which Brett posted that he's not going to need mailing addresses until closer to when the book will be out in 2014. We have received several hundred responses though so I'm not sure what went wrong when you got a broken link...I'll ask Brett. Sorry for the trouble.

    10. Creator Drew Bittner on February 2, 2013

Hi Ellen! I've tried to leave my address info but every time I've responded to the query email, it says the link is broken.
      I'm at:
      5911 Edsall Rd #611
      Alexandria, VA 22304

It might be worthwhile to ping the group and see if others have had this problem. Considering I've tried to reply to four different request emails, this might be systemic.

    11. Creator Ellen Datlow on January 31, 2013

Kymberlie: I sent an email afterwards to ask for the titles because I forgot to ask in the original email. Please let us know now, yes! You can email me directly with your choices, if you like (and if you can't find the email I'm talkinhg about):

    12. Creator Kymberlie R. McGuire on January 31, 2013

I hate to sound dumb, but were we supposed to choose the two ebooks now? It only asked for our format and e-mail address; I didn't see a place to enter the book titles.

    13. Creator Ellen Datlow on January 28, 2013

Sure, Carol, no problem! Send it along when ready.

    14. Creator Carol Guess on January 28, 2013

I'm excited to read it! However, I'm going to move before March 2014. Can we hold off on the addresses?

    15. Creator Ellen Datlow on January 10, 2013

So what are you going to do if it goes over, huh? Huh? :-)
      thank you.This is great.

    16. Creator NecronomiCon PVD on January 10, 2013

$28,000 on the nose - THAT's more like it!

    17. Creator Ellen Datlow on January 8, 2013

      Are you surprised? ;-)

    18. Creator Steven P. Senski on January 8, 2013

      666 backers. :-)

    19. Creator Ellen Datlow on January 8, 2013

      Same here :-)

    20. Creator Brad Middleton on January 8, 2013

Congrats! This is my first KS backing and I'm glad to see the project has been funded. :)

    21. Creator Ellen Datlow on January 7, 2013

Thanks. It's really exciting (and weird). ;-)

    22. Creator John Barker on January 7, 2013

Congratulations on reaching the funding goal!

    23. Creator NecronomiCon PVD on January 7, 2013

We're very excited to see this hard-fought campaign won - and to see the final written product born.

    24. Creator Ellen Datlow on January 7, 2013

I've backed a few but never did one before. It's been a fascinating experiment. I think I'll write about my experience once we're backed and I have a few minutes in between other stuff. I hated pushing it so much initially --makes me feel like a nag and "see me see me" --weird. But these last two days I've been forcing myself to ask writer/friends to spread the word (rather than ask them to pledge money) and boy, they did (including John and Neil Gaiman and some others who are widely read in the sf/f/h community. I can see all those names of those who've pledged and most of them are total strangers. Which is very cool :-).
I plan to thank everyone who's helping to make it happen.

    25. Creator Mark Bee on January 7, 2013

I'm thrilled to see this is almost a done deal! This was my first Kickstarter backing - what a cool experience. Thanks to John Scalzi's Tweet. Otherwise I'd not have heard about it.

    26. Creator Emily Mah Tippetts on January 7, 2013

That looks more and more likely by the hour. Yay!

    27. Creator Ellen Datlow on January 7, 2013

I know. We're coming up with next level stuff in case we go over. :-)

    28. Creator Emily Mah Tippetts on January 7, 2013

You're down in the triple digits! Looks like this is going to happen :-)

    29. Creator Ellen Datlow on January 6, 2013

It's exciting, isn't it? Unfortunately, it's distracting me from my actual work, dammit ;-)

    30. Creator Helen Marshall on January 6, 2013

Wow, just over $3000 to go! It's been amazing to see all the support behind this project!

    31. Creator Ellen Datlow on January 5, 2013

      Thanks Andrew!

    32. Creator Andrew Louis Marnik on January 4, 2013

Wishing you all the best in reaching your goal!!

    33. Creator Ellen Datlow on January 4, 2013

Thanks Carlos--I've seen Reddit but am not sure how it works. Let me confer with Chizine to see if we could do that together...
The problem with the webcast is that none of us live in the same place. I'll ask Matt Kressel, who's been an enormous help with this, about doing it.

    34. Creator Sumoslap on January 4, 2013

Hi there--Carlos Hernandez here. Let me strongly recommend that you plan and run a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" very soon. On my project, it made a very big difference, and with your experience and name-recognition, you may very well see a large bump. Also, please know that most projects make most of their money in the last few days. So you might consider running a live webcast event with some of your awesome writer-buddies on as guests. I've seen projects skyrocket in the last few days. Keep the faith, and good luck!

    35. Creator Scott McWaters on January 1, 2013

Unless we can get some push and further publicity out there, this dog ain't gonna hunt. I will personally be bummed out if for no other reason than the rewards are pretty cool. The project is pretty cool too so let's seed this around where interested people are likely to find it! If you are a backer and really want to see this go, get out there!

    36. Creator Ellen Datlow on December 30, 2012

      Cool. Just saw that! Hooray.

    37. Creator Trent Zelazny on December 30, 2012

10 Gs broken. Good luck! Looking forward to it!

    38. Creator Ellen Datlow on December 10, 2012

Hi Adam, thank you for the suggestion. We'll add that option some time tonight or tomorrow.

    39. Creator Adam Cesare on December 10, 2012

Already pledged for the paperback/ebook combo, but is there any way to add a pledge tier between $35 and $75? Like one that adds a couple ChiZine ebooks to the paperback and ebook editions of Fearful Symmetries(i.e. a tier that would combine the $25 and $35 level)?
