The senior photography students at Virginia Commonwealth University will be facilitating a senior show at the end of the semester that will show off what we have been working on over the course of the past two semesters. Our job for this semester is to not only create work that is high quality but also to find a space in the Richmond area and turn it into a space that we can show our work in. The money will mostly be used in to pay for a space that is large enough that we can show a fair amount of pieces from everyone's series.
In addition we are also inviting members of the local art community such as photographers and gallery owners to act as panel members and review our bodies of work prior to the show. A Juror will also be present at this time to decide what work from each student's series will get into the show. Since we would like to have someone who is prominent in the art community outside of the Richmond area, we need to pay for lodging and traveling expenses for the juror we choose.
The projects that each of the 29 students is working on, is a self guided project. Though the professors will ask questions to help guide the conceptual thinking of the student and classmates critique their peer's work, the ultimate outcome of each series is completely controlled by it's artist. Due to this, there is a large variety of subjects, techniques, and concepts collectively as a class.
