In Crimson Company two opposing players take on the roles of adventurous noblemen in a cut-throat fantasy world. In a battle of wits they assemble armies of sellswords – from hardened warriors, to shady merchants, to mythical creatures as old as time. Who will outsmart their rival and gain control over the castles of a forgotten kingdom?
Why make a card game?
While we love games like Magic: The Gathering, Hearthstone and Gwent, we also see flaws in them from a competitive point of view. We think we can do better when it comes to delivering a truly skill-based, yet fast-paced and accessible head-to-head challenge.
Specifically, our design goals were:
- emphasizing strengths while minimizing weaknesses of comparable card battle games
- providing intense and short 1v1 matches
- building the game around an elegant core system offering truly skill-based gameplay with luck playing a very minor role
- using fair randomness to make every match feel different from the previous one
- creating level playing fields without private card collections or pre-constructed decks
How does the game work?
Crimson Company is an intense 20-minute duel revolving around the novel concept of board-drafting. Both players use their coins to compete for the same pool of 30 unique sellsword cards, only four of them being on offer at a time.
One of the deepest skills lies in estimating the value of each card given the current situation. This is quite difficult since valuations can changes dramatically every single turn. The mind games when it comes to guessing how valuable your opponent will deem a card are gut-wrenching!
After buying a card, you immediately play it in one of the three lanes indicated by the three castles in the center of the battlefield. Each card has a unique effect and the potential to change the course of the game. Once a player has assembled four sellswords in one lane, the combined strength of all characters on both sides are compared. The goal is to conquer two of the three castles. For more details on how to play, visit the rules section of our website.
We believe in our game and we want to share it with the world! Moreover, we would love you to playtest it and come up with improvements! We think Kickstarter is a great place to get in touch with players!

Who are we?
Risks and challenges
We have many years of professional exprience in the digital games space. Hence we understand the general process of game development very well. While we have less experience with publishing board and card games, we have worked our way into the field over the years and believe we can apply large parts of our experience.
We playtested Crimson Company in hundreds of games and received a lot of positive feedback already. We feel so confident in the game, that we will self-publish a profesionally printed first edition later this year. With your feedback we hope to finetune it even more and make it the best game of its kind.
The main challenge for Crimson Company is getting it out to people and letting people know about it. But for this campaign, we can assure you: You will be able to play a great game and we are open to your suggestions, ideas and feedback!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
