Currently, our students meet once per week for classroom instruction and lab, then complete assigned textbook reading at home with accompanying web based short answer and multiple choice questions. Homework and exams are completed in a learning management system (LMS) that is common to many large scale institutions.
We consistently hear from students and parents alike that textbooks are expensive, unclear, and largely unread. In addition, we often receive invitations to come teach at this or that co-op in some outlying area, to bring Thinking Reeds to a larger audience.
Thinking Reeds Online: a comprehensive, self-paced, self-graded homeschool high school science curriculum that makes the most of today's web technologies to present even the most complex and abstract ideas in the clearest way possible. Students learn anywhere, any time, on any device, on any platform. Thinking Reeds Online would fully integrate with and complement our in-class experience, replacing our current LMS. It would also be available in full along with guided at-home labs to homeschoolers, co-ops, and private schools worldwide via a very affordable monthly subscription.
I am aware that this is not an original idea in the sense that there are certainly other avenues for learning high school science online. The difference here is simple. I bring years of personal experience in working with literally hundreds of students face to face to help them grasp and master even the most difficult concepts in science. I know what works and what doesn't. That kind of teaching, that level of student awareness, is simply lost in e-learning products generated by committees inside of multi-billion dollar publishing houses. Thinking Reeds has a lot to offer in this space.
100% of your funds will go towards making Thinking Reeds online the best it can possibly be. I am asking for 5,940 dollars that will be used for extensive software, drawing and lesson animation hardware, professional sound equipment (studio microphone with pop filter and headphones, shotgun microphone, lav mic, digital sound recorder), high quality video production equipment (HD DLSR, spotlights, umbrella lighting, green screen), extensive glassware, and consumables.

Risks and challenges
Dedicated time would be the biggest barrier to completing this project. That is why we have an extremely conservative fanout plan for our courses. We will build the platform and production process with Chemistry, making it available to subscribers 9/2015, then use that platform and process to release Biology and Physics in September of 2016, and ICP (Physical Science) and Astronomy in September of 2017.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
