This Kickstarter campaign will help us raise the funds to create and produce our sixth album entitled "LEVEL 6". It will also help to create a full length concert video, "Making of" Documentary and many other ancillary products and music such as a Donkey Kong Country piano album and sheet music. The LEVEL 6 album will be a studio recording (not a live recording). Over the past 16 years Video Games Live has helped to legitimize video game music and has shown the world the creative, cultural and artistic side of gaming. Although VGL has obtained a lot of accolades and success, the music industry and record companies are VERY different and no music or record company is willing to invest the budget needed to accomplish our goals and put out a top quality product that we and the entire game industry can be proud of. They don't believe in the culturally artistic significance of video game music and they don't believe that people are interested in listening after the game is turned off. And that's where YOU come in! We use TOP Hollywood professionals for our orchestrations, copying, proof reading, etc. We use a 72+ piece professional and experienced recording orchestra and 60+ person choir for recording. We have mixed our last 3 albums (both funded on Kickstarter) at the incredible Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, CA and we've used the BEST orchestral mastering engineer in Hollywood (Patricia Sullivan) who works with John Williams, Danny Elfman, U2 & Hans Zimmer to name a few.
In 2013 we successfully funded LEVEL 3 on Kickstarter and the project came out a few months later ON TIME! In 2014 we successfully funded LEVEL 4 on Kickstarter and the project came out a few months later ON TIME! Most music segments in Video Games Live are personally arranged and orchestrated by the original composers and also uses input from the actual game designers & producers and game developers & publishers.

UNDERTALE arrangement with input from creator/composer Toby Fox. As most of you probably already know... Undertale "the game" was originally funded on Kickstarter by Toby Fox! Now we want to interpret the incredible music (also written by Toby Fox!) to a new and unique symphonic & electronic level! Here is a rough "work in progress" version with computerized MIDI orchestra. I intend to create a really cool "talk box guitar" type of lead solo sound and there will be other guitar stuff as well.
"TO ZANARKAND" from Final Fantasy X. Completely unique Video Games Live arrangement. Here is a rough "work in progress" version with computerized MIDI orchestra that we've been working on for MONTHS! There are a few elements that I always wanted to interpret into the melodies... acoustic guitar and CHOIR!! Here's our initial rough draft...
DESTINY - "The Union" written by Marty O'Donnell, Sir Paul McCartney (YES! THAT Paul McCartney from The Beatles!) & Mike Salvatori. Arrangement & Recording input with Marty O'Donnell. The Video Games Live "The Union" arrangement is a never before fully released song from the unreleased "Music of the Spheres" album.
Here is the Destiny "The Union" WORLD PREMIERE TwitchTV/Amazon live stream during San Diego Comic Con in 2013 which was ultimately seen by over 3 million people! Original Halo/Destiny composers Marty O'Donnell on stage and Marty O'Donnell conducting.
TOMB RAIDER SUITE - Never before performed or released song arranged specifically for Video Games Live by original Tomb Raider composer Nathan McCree. Nathan recently completed a very successful "Tomb Raider Suite" Kickstarter project which help to spawn a live show and album which you can see here: https://www.tombraidersuite.com/
METAL GEAR SOLID - We've never released or recorded our original Metal Gear Solid "Main Theme" & "Encounter" arrangement put together by the original composers and arrangers! Here is a video of the arrangement from our performance in Dubai, UAE in 2012.
EARTHBOUND/MOTHER - One of the most requested franchises to add to Video Games Live. LET'S FINALLY DO IT!! Here is a very rough computerized MIDI orchestra sketch and potential ideas that Video Games Live arranger Wayne Strange and myself have been messing around with. The lyrics were originally written by Earthbound/Mother game designer Shigesato Itoi and are a Japanese to English translation adapted and interpreted for our unique and exclusive arrangement. Wayne takes vocal lead for our demo, but we will also be adding a famous Italian Opera singer as well to get a kind of "Moulin Rouge" type of vibe in certain parts. Something VERY different than every arrangement out there!
Other potential game franchises include... Skyrim, Hearthstone, Suikoden II, Castlevania - "Bloody Tears", Fire Emblem, Classic Arcade Medley, Heroes of Might & Magic, Katamari Damacy, Secret/Legend of Mana, Shenmue, Starfox, Guilty Gear, Kingdom Hearts II - "Sanctuary", Nier, Kirby, Cuphead, Ori & The Blind Forest, Super Mario Bros. 2, Zelda: Breath of the Wild. PHEW!! We have enough to do LEVEL 7 & 8 already! :)
At the end of the project a survey will be sent out to ALL backers to decide what the remaining and final setlist will be. There will be at least 10 tracks on the album and depending on the Stretch Goals could potentially be many more!

Not only will there be a LEVEL 6 album, but an accompanying "Making of" LEVEL 6 Video Documentary revealing the story of each song and how it came to be (most of the time by the original composer). The video will also chronicle the preparation, recording, mixing & mastering of each piece!
The orchestral elements of the album will be conducted by the incredible Eimear Noone. Aside from being one of our esteemed Video Games Live conductors, she has also conducted almost every Blizzard Entertainment game over the past 10 years, composed music for World of Warcraft, was one of the original singers of the original Metal Gear Solid soundtrack AND was personally chosen by Nintendo to record the Legend of Zelda 25th Anniversary album and concert series!
$250,000 - Add an 11th track/song to the album. Track to be decided by the backers after the completion of the Kickstarter.
$275,000 - Add an 12th track/song to the album. Track to be decided by the backers after the completion of the Kickstarter.
$300,000 - Add an 13th track/song to the album. Track to be decided by the backers after the completion of the Kickstarter. At $300,000 this would also unlock ALL BACKERS to receive the Video Games Live: LEVEL 6 "Making of" Album Documentary.
$325,000 - Add an 14th track/song to the album. Track to be decided by the backers after the completion of the Kickstarter.
$350,000 - Add an 15th track/song to the album. Track to be decided by the backers after the completion of the Kickstarter.
$375,000 - Add an 16th track/song to the album. Track to be decided by the backers after the completion of the Kickstarter.

WHERE'S THE MONEY GOING? The album will take 3 full studio days to record. An orchestral recording of this nature is based on 3 hour sessions. We will need a total of SIX 3 hour sessions (18 hours total). This cost could range anywhere from $75,000 - $110,000. A top-of-the-line recording studio (including ALL costs) will be approximately $5,000 per day ($15,000 total). Mixing with a top Hollywood film (& game) audio engineer (one week including studio and assistants) = approximately $30,000. Mastering will take place at the most famous Mastering Studio in Hollywood (Bernie Grundman's) by one of the most highly regarded mastering engineers in the business... Patricia Sullivan. Patricia has personally worked with and mastered films by John Williams (including Star Wars & Indiana Jones films), James Newton Howard, James Horner, Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, John Powell and Mark Isham. Mastering budget for this type of project (both 24bit 96KHz & 16bit 48KHz versions) could go upwards to $7,500. Other parts of the budget will include things like, CD manufacturing based on 5,000 initial units (approximately $5,000), Music Licensing/Mechanical Licensing to the Game Publishers, composers, right holders, etc. based on 5,000 initial units ($5,000), hiring of a PR/Marketing firm in both North America and Europe ($10,000), Shipping & Handling of goods, added physical products at certain tier levels, etc.

Video Games Live is not making any money from this project. Our goal is to continue doing what we love and bringing it to the people who care (as well as introducing game music to people who don't!)

This project will NOT go over budget and WILL be delivered on time!
The main idea behind our project is to give back as much as possible to donors by AT LEAST TRIPLING, QUADRUPLING & HIGHER the value of the amount pledged!
Here's a question that some people may have...
"Don't you have enough money to do this without doing a fourth Kickstarter? You're a well-established successful tour/show and Tommy has a massive resume from his career. You should have more than enough resources to do this without crowdfunding."
It's a great and fair question! And here are the simple answers...
1. It costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to record a 100 piece orchestra and choir, create new arrangements, orchestrations, sheet music, copying, proof-reading, etc. and to keep the highest quality possible by mixing at Skywalker, mastering with THE BEST, etc. For the last Kickstarter project I put in over $50,000 of my own money just to make it happen. And then there's the creation and mailing of all the other things associated with the Kickstarter, etc. This isn't just one album and that's it... it's TONS of Rewards and things that need to be created, licensed, etc.
2. Another GREAT reason to do a Kickstarter is because of all the amazing and unique things I'm able to offer and give to everyone! It's much different than just selling someone an album for $9.99 on Amazon or iTunes. It's a fantastic way to give to people a lot of incredible value of things that wouldn't even exist if not for the Kickstarter.
3. Please remember... not a single major artist funds their own albums. Not Aerosmith, not Katy Perry, etc... there is a reason for that. It's because a lot of money needs to be spent and then there's marketing, PR, manufacturing, distribution, etc., etc... it's a huge infrastructure that I (and most every independent musician, composer, band) just don't have... and no record company is willing to give me the money I need to create the quality I want and the fans expect. I'm just not willing to sacrifice quality.
There are SO MANY different and unique Rewards at different tiers. With SO many different Rewards, it's hard to remember and keep track of exactly what you will be getting. We HIGHLY recommend that you start at the $10 Reward Tier and start working your way down. You'll understand the layering of each Reward Tier and how bigger & better each level goes!

Video Games Live was also the FIRST to license music and synchronized video for an album and DVD/Blu-Ray release outside of Japan from companies such as Nintendo, Capcom, Sony, Konami and Sega!
Video Games Live creator/producer Tommy Tallarico has been in the industry for over 28 years and has worked on over 300 video games (a Guinness World Record!). He has worked with and created games with every major publisher and game developer over the years. This is one of the main reasons why Video Games Live is able to get so many approvals and why it is the only show in the world with so many different games by so many different publishers and developers.
