Inspired by an empty wall in my kitchen, I’ve set out to create a series of six paintings featuring some of my favorite vegetables.
The goal: to reproduce these paintings as beautiful, high-quality prints - and that's where you come in. With enough funding, I'll be able to order these prints in volume, which helps keep my costs down and enables me to continue doing what I love, which is producing artwork and sharing it with you.
But enough about me... what about the cool stuff you're going to get? Without further ado:
(Samples I've ordered so far have fantastic quality and weight - I'm totally thrilled with them!)
The series will include six paintings, three of which I've completed so far (carrot, cucumber, and radish), with sketches for an additional three which I'll complete over the coming weeks, featuring summer squash, cabbage or cauliflower, and a final mystery vegetable to be chosen by backers.
Why vegetables? Because they're wonderfully delicious, beautiful to look at, and they grow from the ground - like magic! For me, this is a small way to honor these amazing foods and celebrate their awesome goodness.
Aesthetically, I've aspired to combine an admiration of old-timey botanical illustrations with a love of American folk art paintings, then interpret those influences in my own unique style.
Most of the work I do these days is digital, but for this project, it felt right to get back to traditional painting media. It takes a little longer, but there's nothing quite like making an actual physical painting - there's a life in the process and a presence to the end product that really make it something special.
I'm a professional illustrator specializing in children's publications and stylized portraits, and it's been a long-time dream of mine to create art prints that people could hang in their homes. The idea that something I dreamed up could find its way onto your wall fills my little Becca-heart with joy. I hope you find as much enjoyment in these paintings as I have in creating them.
Risks and challenges
Once the remaining three paintings are completed and scanned, I'll be able to order the prints and magnets and get them shipped out by late November, well in time for the holidays should you choose to gift them!
Barring the unlikely event of death by paper cut, I'll be able to deliver all products well within the scheduled timeline.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
