A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
In the winter of 2017 following Christmas, my mom and I talked about how she still rarely finds ethnic Christmas ornaments. We laughed that nearly 15 years after she first started putting up an ethnic ornament tree, she still can’t find any more ethnic ornaments to complement the tree. When I typed in "Black" or "African American Santa ornaments" into a search engine, the only ornaments that would pop up were the same ethnic little drummer boy and African angel that have hung from my mom’s tree for over a decade.
At that moment, I realized that for that to change, I needed to do something. Appropriately, on that cold winter day, the dream of Swaggy Clause was born.
During the spring of 2017 the Swaggy Clause team came together, united by the hope of bringing Swaggy Clause to a Christmas tree near you.
In the summer of 2017, graphic designer, Ryan Foat, brought Swaggy Clause to life.
Next, we developed a 3D print version of swaggy clause to determine if he could not only hang from a tree, but also stand independently and bend at the joints while carrying a sack on his back.
After developing the 3D print, we finalized the schematics creating the first action ornament of its kind – Swaggy Clause. Now, with funding from the Kickstarter community we’ll begin the final process of Swaggy Clause’s evolution; mass production.
Along with the Swaggy Clause ornament. We will also be releasing Swaggy Clause ugly Christmas sweaters. S-XXL $35 USD
The sweaters will have unisex sizing and will be an inch longer and oversized for that cozy, Christmas feeling.
Thank you for taking the time to check out Swaggy Clause and helping to bring him to a Christmas tree near you with your donations. Thank you.
Risks and challenges
Swaggy Clause is the first ever movable, action ornament of its kind, and we are excited to introduce him to the world. As with all new paths, a few bumps are expected. Swaggy Clause will bend at the knees, elbows ad hips. He will also be able to stand independently on any flat surface, such as a mantle, desk or bookshelf. To allow for both the movement of his joints and the ability to stand while balancing his sack, the weight must be properly distributed. We have considered these challenges and believe that with additional funding, they will be resolved.
