A must for any fan of Brian Keene, zombies, or horror in general!
It's time to print and release the infamous THE LAST ZOMBIE OMNIBUS, which collects all 25 issues of the LAST ZOMBIE comic series.
If you're not familiar with us, my name is Joeming Dunn, and I run Antarctic Press, a small, independent comic company started in 1984. I have personally collected comics of almost every type and genre since 1974, and I can say that during the past 30 years, we have published some of the greatest and best independent comics out there. Our publishing history includes titles like Gold Digger and Ninja High School. The comic industry has changed over the years, so we have started this Kickstarter program to help introduce new projects from our talented group of creators.
Prominent among our recent titles is Brian Keene's comic book series THE LAST ZOMBIE. Brian Keene is a two-time winner of the Bram Stoker Award and a Shocker Award-winner whose novels include THE RISING, JOBS IN HELL, GHOUL and CLICKERS. He has also worked on a multitude of comic series for Marvel and DC, including Dead of Night: Devil-Slayer for Marvel. Over the past few years, we have had the pleasure of working with Brian on the LAST ZOMBIE series. The series itself has received numerous glowing reviews, a few of which you can find here:
The series itself follows the frantic journey of Doctor Ian Scott, a man seeking his one ray of hope in a post-apocalyptic-nightmare United States. The zombies have come and mostly gone, but the disease is still out there threatening the survivors. The country swarms with roving packs of wild animals and worse, the most desperate of humans, who are ready to do whatever it takes to survive. Through it all, Doctor Scott and a small team of soldiers and scientists must drive from Colorado to West Virginia to reunite him with the woman he loves...before its too late for either of them.
Over the course of the series, Brian has teamed up with artists Joe Wight (Twilight X, How to Draw and Fight Zombies, Star Wars: The Manga) and Fred Perry (Gold Digger, Zombie Kid Diaries), Brian Denham (Iron Man: Hypervelocity, X-Files, Crawling Sky), and Chris Allen to present this action-packed adventure.
If you haven't already seen or read THE LAST ZOMBIE, this is your chance to enjoy one of the best and longest-running zombie series in comics! Brian is known worldwide for his novels and short stories of the shambling undead and is recognized as one of the major forces behind the new era of zombie popularity.
I have included THE FIRST ISSUE of this great project for everyone to review. Just click on the link below.
What are we going to do with the Kickstarter money?
Plain and simple, we're going to print and ship the Last Zombie: Zomnibus.
The Last Zombie series started in 2010 and ran for 25 issues. Many of the original printings of this book are now long sold out.
All told , THE LAST ZOMBIE series is over 600 pages, close in size to a phone book. Printing the actual books will be the biggest single expense. The first print run of a typical trade this large costs in excess of $7,000 at least, as most printers require a minimum run to make it cost-effective, and we are using Kickstarter to help assist us with those costs. If the amount seems high, you must remember that we are printing at least 500 copies of a 500+ page book. Another cost is shipping: First we will have to ship the books from the printer to our offices, and once we get them, send copies to all our supporters and distributors. Several thousand pounds of books represents a significant shipping expense.
So what do you get?
The Zomnibus will be 6"x9" and contain all 25 issues of The Last Zombie which includes the following series.
The Last Zombie: Dead New World
The Last Zombie: Inferno
The Last Zombie: Neverland
The Last Zombie: Before the After
The Last Zombie: The End

IF WE PASS OUR GOAL...
Well we were thinking of doing a hardcover edition of the book, though we don't want too look to far ahead. We hope to be able to print this book, and once we surpass our goal (as we have with our other Kickstarters), we will immediately go to press so that the books will reach you as soon as possible. ADDENDUM: HARDCOVER NOW AVAILABLE
THE STRETCH GOALS
We have some really cool stretch goals, now most of these goals are quite ambitious. We appreciate all those who have supported this campaign thus far, maybe help us get the word out to help reach these goals.
$20,000 Goal: WE MADE IT!
$22,500 Goal: You betcha we made it! Thanks all!
These next few goals are also pretty ambitious, we have not seen the short stories yet but after hearing about these cool new stories, we know they are going to be fantastic. They deserve to be illustrated in comic book form. Well as many know putting a comic together is not an easy task, we have to pay all the creators, letterer etc...but we'll put the work into it if we reach the following goals.
And finally, if we hit this final goal we will print the art for all three stories in one comic book with an exclusive only can get through Kickstarter cover. I know it is a stretch but that's why they call them stretch goals.
Now one caveat to these stretch goals...they may take some time to get completed (writing and artwork) so if we make these goals they may take a bit of time to get completed and may arrive after the books are sent.
Risks and challenges
There are always risks inherent in any project. This project has very few risks; the book is already done, and all we just need to do is raise the funds, pay the printer, and get it made. Our biggest risk is that we won't get the funding, and then the book won't be made.
We have been printing and releasing books for close to 30 years, so we have a good relationship with our printer and do not anticipate any hiccups.
There is always the risk that we won't be able to get the books in on time due to a variety of factors, but again, we do not anticipate that sort of problem.
We believe in full disclosure and we will make sure to keep you all updated on the progress of the book and all the incentives.
There may be some who are concerned that our previous Kickstarter (Zombie Deck) has not been completed. As we speak about 99% of those rewards have been filled (with the remaining due to bad addresses or other logistical problems). While I do not want to make excuses, we ran into some issues that we did not anticipate which included not getting approvals in a timely manner and/or multiple changes that were requested on the character cards which delayed submission of the completed deck. This should not occur with this project. There were also some hiccups with the printer, this was the first time dealing with this particular playing card printer and we had to make adjustments accordingly which also caused delays.. The printer we are using for this project is one that we have dealt with for many years so we do not anticipate any printing issues.
For those supporters of our previous Kickstarter (Fred Perry Color Gold Brick). We have already begun to fulfill those rewards. Three reward tiers are already complete and the challenge with this Kickstarter was the overseas printer. The books are being shipped from overseas as we speak and should arrive on time in mid February so we do not anticipate any delays in getting the books out to supporters on time or even early.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
