We have added a USB Serial Converter to UART HAT so that you can connect Raspberry Pi to the Computer. The On board USB to serial Convertor Can be connected to any of the two additional UART provided by the HAT or the original Raspberry Pi UART.
UART HAT is Add-on board for Raspberry Pi which provide two additional RS232 TTL serial ports with flow control which are both 5V and 3.3 V compatible in addition to the original Serial Port of Raspberry PI. Also the original serial of the Raspberry Pi is 3.3V Compatible so we have Voltage Level Converter on the HAT which Converts it into 5V and also there is an TTL to RS232 Level Converter With DB9 Port With Flow Control To connect Legacy Serial Devices.
WHAT IS THE USE OF UART HAT?
As we know Raspberry pi has only one Serial Ports only with RX and TX pins which is primarily used for Debugging / SSH. If we need to connect any serial devices to raspberry pi we have to disable debugging and then we need to connect. If we need to connect any 5V TTL / RS232 Level Serial Devices we need a level converter. And all with this pain we can connect only one serial device to Raspberry Pi at a time. To overcome the all these problems we have came up with UART HAT which helps to Connects Multiple Serial Devices Like Routers /Switch / Firewall console, GPS, GSM Modem, RFID Readers and whole lot bunch of stuff to Raspberry Pi.
WHY WE NEED UART HAT WHEN THERE IS USB TO UART CONVERTER ?
For example consider we have a Raspberry Pi 2 Model B and it has 4 USB ports where One USB Ports is used for Keyboard / Mouse, Second for WIFI dongle, Third for Thumb / Flash Drive and Left with one USB where i can connect USB to UART but i can get only one USB to UART Port and for additional UART we need to used USB HUB or Remove any of the devices connected.
What we are trying to explain is With the help of UART HAT you need not to sacrifice resources for additional UART. Our UART HAT Uses I2C to communicate with the Pi as you know we can connect hell lot of Devices to I2C BUS. And we can stack upto 4 UART HAT which means we can have upto 8 UART without the sacrifice of Resources.

The UART HAT design is done, prototypes are made and tested in the Pi. Now we are working on the manufacturing process. With your support, we will be able to manufacture UART HAT in large quantity to reduce the cost reach many Pi lovers.
