In 2017 I started my business called Tropicallday, where I hand-make a range of fashion accessories and home products inspired by my love of all things tropical: island colours, smells, flowers, and patterns are my passion. Every bag is handmade by me in my Sydney studio.
I love the process of making each product by hand, but have so far been buying fabrics off the shelf to make all of my products. My dream is to design my own fabric prints to make accessories and items for tropical home living, and this is my first ever print. All of the imagery is hand-drawn from photos I take while travelling, digitally scanned, and compiled into a pattern that produces beautiful results when stitched together. This pattern features some of my favourite tropical motifs, including hibiscus flowers, pineapples, monstera leaves and palm leaves.
Whilst travelling I am always on the lookout for the ultimate tropical print and colour combination, however I often can't find exactly what I'm looking for. I have spent months experimenting with creating my own patterns, and feel it is finally time to produce my own fabric to create a truly original range of fashion accessories.
These bags make fantastic gifts for any special occasion, with much of the feedback on my Tropicallday store being from people using these as Christmas and birthday presents to partners, friends, colleagues and loved ones. Whether it is hot or cold outside, tropical prints always brighten the day.

Washing Instructions: For best results, we recommend washing all natural fabrics gently by hand in cold or cool water up to 30 degrees Celsius with very gentle detergent without phosphates. Do not scrub or rub fabrics, as pigment becomes fragile when wet and has tendency to come off. Hang dry. We recommend ironing fabrics on standard settings of your iron. Test small section of your fabric first prior ironing.
To help me through my Kickstarter experience I am teaming up with my partner, James Novak, who had a successful Make 100 Kickstarter called Robot Picasso last year. This gives me a lot of confidence in navigating the Kickstarter journey, and will help ensure your experience does not run on island time!
Select the product you would like in the rewards section and help me create my first topical print to be turned into a limited edition series of fashion accessories.
Mahalo, Vinaka and thank you.
Risks and challenges
There are 2 main risks with this project:
1. This is my first time custom printing a fabric, and while I have partnered with a reliable company, there is always the unknown with production, and this is the only element that is out of my hands.
2. Every item is hand-made by myself, and while I have many years experience sewing, large order quantities may result in some new challenges in my process. However as the only person responsible for production, there is limited opportunity for things to get out of control and I am used to producing batches of these products through my business Tropicallday.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
