Our Kickstarter project has a mutually beneficial and clear goal-- to invite passionate foodies, creative chefs and growing fans of plant-based protein (vegetarians and otherwise) to help fund the initial production run of the TempehSure™ Protein Pod and become a pioneer-owner of this exciting new product. We are on a mission to help people have more control over their food supply while helping solve our much larger food system challenges. The TempehSure™ System makes DIY plant-based protein a reality!
What is tempeh?
Tempeh is a fermented plant-based protein, typically a cultured cake of soybeans, which has been a staple food in Indonesia for centuries. The Protein Pod reinvents tempeh. Now, foodies and chefs can make Tempeh with a variety of legumes and nuts - chickpeas, black beans, adzuki beans, peanuts and any combination with other ingredients such as flax, sesame or chia seeds. The TempehSure™ System inspires creativity.
How we got here?
It all started with our passion for eating healthy and being good to the planet. We were constantly challenged as vegetarians to find fresh high protein options. Furthermore, many non-vegetarians who wanted to cut back on animal protein found it difficult. So when we came across tempeh, we got excited about its high protein and the ability to make it taste like so many different kinds of foods. We really got excited when we met Betsy and Gunter who had a vision for a modern tempeh making machine.

Why aren't you making your own tempeh already? Well, because you practically can't. Our Protein Pod is a painstakingly engineered, dual-stage incubator and pasteurizer that seamlessly creates tempeh in 24 hours. Just prep the legumes, place in the Pod, press one button and you'll be enjoying your own, FRESH, plant-based protein the very next day. While the Protein Pod is the cornerstone of the TempehSure™ System, we have carefully planned its release to coincide with the availability of our TempehSure™ Starter Culture and supply of dehydrated legumes. Our Starter Culture is U.S. made, certified food safe and produces fantastic, consistently delicious and wonderfully nutritious tempeh in as little time as possible.

What’s exciting about our proprietary TempehSure™ Protein Pod Plus and system is that it allows CHEFS and FOOD SERVICE PROS to make delicious, healthy, plant-based protein-- from not just soy beans but a variety of legumes: soy, chickpeas, peanuts, etc. These options allow for creative control, personalized recipes and adventurous food experiences.
Our patented appliance technology utilizes a stainless baking pan (not plastic bags) which tastes better and helps remove the mystery and guesswork from making great tempeh. You can monitor your current batch, opt-in for cycle-end alarms, browse and rate fabulous tempeh recipes, order more supplies for your next plant-based protein creation, access a user guide and all kinds of support... but most importantly, of course, you can name your POD! Future features will include local food community connections with other empowered 'protein heads' like you, recipe sharing... even "Tempehtitions" with awards for creativity and your best tips and tricks.

Meet the TempehSure™ Team
Joy DuPuis brings TempehSure™ a set of creative skills and experience that span over 20 years as a vegetarian and raw food dabbler, writer and classically trained homeopath. Joy’s creative approach to food and business provides a collaborative environment for the chefs and foodies she works with. Her passion for Tempeh began by first developing a community of other like minded plant protein lovers. This was done through the launch of Tempeh Girls a blog site that brought together tempeh influencers. It currently has 25,000 followers. The community led her to the inventor of the Protein Pod and with her partners the formation of TempehSure™.
Joy also serves on the boards of Wildlife Friendly where she provides guidance in social and environmental issues.
John Silva fixes stuff. As a chronic, creative problem solver, John is known for taking apart and rebuilding whatever could be better; a bicycle, a car, a relationship, a brand. Improving our world through design eyes is in his DNA and he believes great goodness comes in the form of inspired beauty, crafted expression and brilliant calculation. His talents at TempehSure™ has made it a reality from his hours of R&D and creative approach to solving the big challenges.
Complementing his passion for blue-sky thinking, John brings comprehensive knowledge of design activation from strategy through manufacturing.
Steven DuPuis is a social entrepreneur who for the last 25 years has built an innovation and marketing firm called the DuPuis Group that guides businesses in sustainable and responsible growth ventures. His passion for healthy food lead him with his partners to create TempehSure™. His business knowledge and visionary thinking, inspires and drives them on their new journey.
Steven recently gave a TEDx talk on “Too Big To Care,” that speaks to Human inspired Profit. He is a frequent contributor to Fast Company and has been an adjunct professor for six years at The Kellogg School of Management.

Risks and challenges
Our team has many years of experience launching products, however we realize things can happen. We have checked and double-checked to make sure the Protein Pod will be ready for manufacturing upon the funding of Kickstarter. For the last two years we have tested and developed several prototypes to perfect the unit so it’s reliable, safe, and easy to use. After making hundreds of tempeh batches, we now feel confident that the Protein Pod is ready for the world. Our biggest challenge will be to make sure the standards we set for ourselves be maintained throughout the manufacturing process.
