The Wizard King has been killed by an evil Black Wizard. With your training incomplete, you must command powerful wizards or absorb their power to become powerful yourself. You must work together to stop the Black Wizard, but in the end only one can become the next King.
- Competitive cooperation: Only the first Heir to gain enough power can become the next Wizard King. But in order to claim the throne, you must also cooperate to defeat the Black Wizard-a powerful and sophisticated AI that quickly climbs the power track.
- Dynamic set collection: Heirs of the Wizard King has revolutionized popular set collection mechanisms. To defeat the Black Wizard, players forge Chains of Wizards by matching color or number. Because cards only need to match their neighbor, you can pursue multiple strategies and be less dependent on luck.
- Strategic Decisions: With multiple uses for every card, every choice has long lasting consequences. Do you use that high powered Wizard or begin investing in his spell? Do you take down the Black Wizard or ignore him hoping an opponent will stop him? Each choice you make will permanently change what type of King you will be.
Rahdo Runs Through: "There are these really interesting semi-cooperative mechanics at play. Multi-use cards, one of my favorite mechanisms of all time, works very well here. Overall, it's a very sharp, very clever little card game."
PnP in at least 6 languages by next year!
So far, we have volunteer translators for German, French, Spanish, Dutch and Latvian! While we haven't raised the funds necessary to produce the game in multiple languages, with the help of volunteer translators, we will release multi-language, PnP versions of the game next year!
If you would like to volunteer for this effort, please message me directly!
How to Play, a Solo Run-through:
We will be releasing a 5-8 player variant of the game with no additional downtime, no increase in play time and has play tested really well. It does require a second copy of the game. But you save $3 on additional copies.
Tantrum House: "Lots of good decision making that creates a nice flow throughout the entire game. We really enjoyed the artwork style and illustrations."
Gaming With Edo: "Heirs of the Wizard King has an interesting competitive cooperation. It moves quickly, and stays pretty tight. It's a nice little package that's worth checking out."
The Kwaranteen: "It's every man for himself, but if you don't keep the Black Wizard under control you're all going to lose. That's such an awesome mechanic we all loved."
Unfiltered Gamer: "Heirs of the Wizard King is a very interesting, unique chaining game. It has just the right difficulty. Very fun, I would suggest it."
G Club: "The Black Wizard interacts with the table like another player. Two big thumbs up. A fantastic value for what you're getting."
Dice Odyssey: "I love this game! You are going to keep pulling this game out, over and over again. With the amount of ingenuity that was put in this, you can tell it was a labor of love."
Gameosity: "Heirs of the Wizard King is a small, attractive, engaging card game - a great fit in most any collection - that we absolutely suggest checking out!"
WYLD Gaming: "I like the balance and strategy the game delivers. The Black Wizard should not be dealt with lightly. He is very powerful and will easily win the game if you don't work together."
Nonstop Tabletop: "The artwork is fantastic, the decisions are tantalizing. We can see this game becoming a sleeper hit!
To Die for Games: "You have to really pay attention to the Black Wizard because he can gain cards quickly as you complete chains with more players."
Pawn's Perspective: "Heirs of the Wizard King manages to pack an insane amount of depth into a fairly small package and low play time. It's easy to learn with multiple routes to victory."
Risks and challenges
Although this is our first created game, we're no strangers to the difficulties that Kickstarter campaigns face. We've witnessed the delays and hidden costs that can harm campaigns. Therefore, we have done our best to budget time and money for all the worst-case scenarios we've seen. Above all, we promise to be transparent in our updates and visible in the comments section.
During the campaign, we will respond swiftly to comments and concerns and give official updates semi-frequently. After the campaign, we will continue to respond to the comment section and we will give weekly or fortnightly updates as warranted.
One of the biggest challenges we may face is logistics. A lot of research has gone into our manufacturing and fulfillment partners, but things can always happen. When they do happen, we will be there to pick up the pieces and deliver your games (hopefully) on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
