We've been written about on the following blogs:
Zoofolds are folding 3D animal heads designed to be worn to fancy dress parties and festivals. The unique designs mean they work as both masks and hats - so they look fantastic in photos and are comfortable to wear. They even look great hanging on a wall.
Zoofolds will be made right here in the UK, printed on 100% recycled card, and will be recyclable. So you can party with a smile - knowing that you are supporting local business without harm to our environment.
On May 2nd 2016 Leicester City FC beat incredible odds to be crowned champions of the Premier League. In honour of their historic win - we have come up with a special reward (#11) especially for fans of The Foxes.

I am launching Zoofold with three designs on a British woodland theme: Badger, Deer & Fox. 5% of profits from this collection will be donated to The Woodland Trust.
The animals don't yet have names, and I hope the kickstarter community will join me in naming them. Backers are invited to submit name suggestions to be voted on at the end of the campaign.
Zoofolds come to you flat-packed in a box, hand-finished with double-sided tape applied to the numbered tabs. All you have to do is fold, peel & stick. In just 15 minutes you will have your very own beautiful 3D animal head. They are also supplied with an adjustable headband to fit your head.
Zoofolds come flat-packed in a box. Inside the box is everything you need to create the mask in 15 minutes. There is no need for scissors or glue, so there is no mess. Each Zoofold design is made of 2 - 3 pieces of card, already cut, scored and hand finished with double-sided tape.
The last step is to attach the adjustable headband, go outside & embrace your wild side!
Zoofolds are designed primarily to sit on top of your head like a hat. The reason for this is a practical one; a mask can get in the way of you enjoying yourself and very quickly becomes uncomfortable, hot and sweaty. At a party or festival, wearing a Zoofold on top of your head leaves you free to eat, drink and generally have a good time.
Zoofolds have small eye holes cut out of them to provide basic, but limited, visibility when being worn as a mask. This allows you to look the part and take fantastic photos while you do. If you wish to wear the Zoofold as a mask for longer periods of time you are free to edit the size of the eye holes.
I begin each design by drawing it in 3D on the computer, studying animal photographs to perfect the form. To test the shape I have to create a 2D net which allows me to print it and make my physical prototypes by hand.
While refining my designs this way I realised that I needed a quicker way to test my versions, so last year I invested in a cutter-plotter, which now allows me to cut, score and test designs more efficiently.
I create the high-res printed images that make up the colouring of the animals myself, using a technique that layers photographs with digital brushwork and colouring. While the shape of the mask is angular and faceted, I wanted the artwork itself to be a realistic rendering of the animals themselves so that Zoofolds could be beautiful design objects in their own right, not just novelty items.
It is important to me to support UK businesses, so I will be working with a local cardboard engineering company to help me manufacture the Zoofolds. I have now also sourced suppliers for packaging and labelling so all I need to do is press go.
Zoofolds are designed for people to have fun, but that should not be at the expense of our environment. That is why Zoofolds will be printed on 100% recycled card and will be laminated using bio-degradable material - so that they are recyclable. So Zoofolds are an eco-friendly alternative to disposable but damaging plastics.
To help the wildlife that inspired them, it is my intention to give 5% of all profits from Zoofold's Woodland Collection to The Woodland Trust - a charity that protects the woodland habitats of our native wildlife. I hope to raise money for other charities with future Zoofold collections.
The goal of this campaign is to fund the first run of manufacturing for the three woodland designs. The main costs of the campaign are detailed below.

Everyone who buys more than one zoofold, will receive a cute enamel lapel pin of the Zoofold mascot Reynard to thank you for your support. Not to mention that buying two or three items gets you a cheeky discount!
For those who would prefer a craft project - you can get a printable pdf of miniatures of all three designs for just £5. You can make them at home. Just print them out on A4 paper, cut them out and construct using glue or double-sided tape.
The best value by far is the 12-pack bulk buy, which works out as £10/hat. Which is a great idea for anyone hosting an event or wedding!
If you are the type of person that loves to get surprises in the post? Why not buy our One Now, One Later reward. We will send you a Zoofold of your choice now, and a brand new mystery design in October, just in time for Halloween!
I am also creating a special edition futuristic silver fox, just for the kickstarter campaign. They feature red light up eyes. These designs will take more time to make by hand, so the numbers are limited (please note the mirror-card foxes will not be bio-degradable).
The idea for Zoofold was born out this Fantastic Mr Fox costume I designed for Bestival 2010. I put so much love into making the hats that after the festival I hung them on the wall of my living room, where they stayed.
Over the next few years I would often look at my creations while sitting at home feeling dissatisfied with my career as an architect. I thought: 'If only I could design fancy dress costumes for a living?'.
By 2014 the feeling still hadn't left me, but how could I launch a product without re-training as a seamstress? My skills lay in architecture, not sewing. So I hatched a plan to combine my architectural talents (3D design, spatial thinking, draftsmanship) with my love of fancy dress, and animals in particular. Which is when I started playing about with my first zoofold prototypes.

Risks and challenges
The biggest challenge as a brand new business is building a good relationship with a manufacturer to ensure quality and delivery is up to scratch. Please bear with us as we iron out glitches in our early production runs.
In order to guarantee safety for children under 14, I am required to get a CE mark. This means testing of the manufactured product has to be undertaken before dispatching items bought for children. Products purchased for use by adults however will not be delayed for testing. I will send a survey to backers regarding this at the end of the campaign.
I’ll do my best to ensure that I deliver what I promise and keep everyone informed of the progress of the project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
