As a kid growing up in Los Angeles I thought that everything around me was created by man - sidewalks, swimming pools, the sand on the beach. Men planted the trees and seeded the lawns. Then we took a family trip to tiny Lake Gregory in the San Bernadino Mountains. The lake water wasn't chlorinated and the trees and hills were too disorganized to have been planned.
