A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
Bring the nice strength of the seas into your pocket
Seahorse Tool is a versatile keychain you can bring with you anywhere you go ! In addition to containing numerous tools, its elaborate design makes it a little creature as elegant as useful.
Its numerous tools will be helpful to you on many occasions. Because of its manufacturing quality, it is a very robust and easy handling tool… but most of all, its visual aspect has not been undermined… therefore, it has also been carefully designed. Its particular outline makes it a unique multitasks object. And, make no mistake! A huge harmonization work has been performed to combine aesthetics and usefulness. The Seahorse is very comprehensive and you won’t feel ashamed to take it out of your pocket!
What makes the difference?
Its small size. It has approximately the same dimensions as an ordinary key.
Its unique and pleasant design.
Its original functions.
Its price. Lower than many multi-tools.
(the photos were made with prototypes, most of which are not matt. But the final product will have a matt finish)
65mm x 25mm x 3mm (2.55inch x 1inch x 0.11inch).
316L stainless steel.
Major tools and functions:
Flat screwdriver (3mm) / bit.
Scraper / mini-lever.
Files (2 different sizes).
Serrated blade (safe, non-cutting).
Hex bits (5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 9mm, 10mm).
The Seahorse Tool’s functionalities can provide much more than their basic functions: in other words, they can be used any way you choose! For instance, you can use the screwdriver to engrave or to drill… the nose can be used as a little grappling hook, etc.
Its versatility might prove useful on various occasions, for people who wish to keep a small and nice tool with them. Its small size makes it easy to carry with you anywhere… It might fit into your pocket, on your key ring, on your glove compartment… Wherever you go, take it with you unhindered. Because of its unisex design, it is sure to please women as well as men.
Besides, even when it is not used, it remains a very cool and original keychain!
Why I designed it?
The idea is to provide an original little multitasks keychain, which is a little bigger than a key and combines various useful functionalities with a pleasant design; an object you can keep with you all the time, even though you are not a great adventurer. Therefore, an object that would be available to the greatest amount of people.
It might not be obvious every time, but even the smallest things require much hard work:
If you request more than one Seahorse, simply add 10 euros to your pledge.
Note by the way that there will be some optimizations between the prototype you can see on this page and the final product. Optimizations include:
A matte surface finishing.
A much cleaner overall finish.
The tools will be optimized, if necessary. A few small visual changes might therefore occur (or not !), but the global design won’t change.
The keychain rod will be produced by a company specializing in springs. Therefore, it will be cleaner and perfectly assembled.
The maximum will be made to try to ensure the delivery time. But it could be extended by 1 or 2 months.
The campaign funds will be used as follows:
To develop the last prototypes.
Deliver your Seahorses!
Who work on this campaign?
Other things you need to know
The Seahorse may be sent to you without a real packaging, because it allows some savings, mainly on shipping costs, and thus to offer you more attractive rates.
Before starting the campaign, I have done my best to leave nothing aside and assure the most efficient and fluid post-campaign in all aspects (last prototypes, production, delivery…). Yet, it is a fact that whatever the project might be, unexpected events may occur ! Whatever may happen, I will definitely respond as effectively as possible, with unfailing motivation.
These risks might be delays in production or delivery, or a problem with a collaborator.
But as mentioned above, every effort has been done to avoid such inconveniences.
