First off feel free to visit our fledgling site https://iowaexperience.org/ and watch your shoes, we're still under construction. The site has been spearheaded by Autumn Mathes and myself, Ty Clark. We're trying to bring a unique view of our state to our readers. Not all the hype and positivism some of the other local publications thrive on. If there is something about our state that worries us, that impacts us negatively, we're going to be vocal about it.
In the future we do hope to have a physical publication available in many places around Iowa, but for now we're online only. The point of this Kickstarter is to fund those who have also put in time and effort into our creation. It will be used to pay future contributors, to maintain the site, hire consultants and put food into the stomachs of those who have happily volunteered.
Risks and challenges
Neither of us have a background in journalism, but are dedicated writers. We're learning just how hard it is for the small publications to survive, from applying for press credentials, begging friends to help contribute, to the sheer time it has taken to get to this point. We've come a long way from scribbling notes on paper for this site and have found so many helpful tools to organize ourselves and our contributors schedules. The site is not full of all the articles we have written yet and for good reason. Some of the current events we have written about are so far past that they are no longer newsworthy (it took us far longer to build the site since a computer took a crash). But in the future we hope to become a voice, to inform Iowans the best we can.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
