Crooked Way Gothic Tarot
Walk on the Dark Side with this new, gleefully ghoulish, full-on Gothic tarot pack from the creator of TRICK OR TAROT & the ZIRKUS MÄGI
“Deep into that darkness peering, Long I stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before…”
The Family THORN: Are they monsters, or merely Doomed Romantics? Are they, indeed, a blood family, or a loose gathering of individuals brought together by circumstance and sympathy? At great risk to life and limb, Duck Soup Productions approached the family Thorn and persuaded its matriarch, Grandmama Hobnail Thorn, to license the family tarot pack for the edification of Tarot users and collectors the world over. This unique pack, which has been in use by Thorn family mystagogues for generations, is said to have been created by a “previous” Grandmama Hobnail in 1706. It offers unique perspectives, wisdom and symbolism that are sure to be welcomed by modern practitioners of the art.
From the Creator of "Tarot of the Zirkus Magi,” "Trick or Tarot,” and “Tinker’s Damn Tarot”
… comes a new Gothic-themed tarot featuring its own unique symbology and a black (but not humorless) heart. While the card meanings are derived from Golden Dawn and Waite-Smith traditions, the visual language that the deck uses to express those meanings is completely original, with a classically Gothic flavor that’s shadowy, somber, and yet somehow charming. As with my Zirkus Mägi Tarot, the Majors are unnumbered, allowing you to place Strength and Adjustment / Justice where you will.
Twisted, but Traditional.
Even if you don’t always wear black, here is a Tarot designed to unleash your Inner Goth, a Tarot that’s beautiful, yet slightly warped and dark as pitch.
Each one of my award-winning tarot and oracle packs has its origin in the fabulous and fanciful, but under the hood they are thoughtfully and carefully crafted with an eye towards the traditional themes and symbols of Tarot. Far from being merely a “themed” deck, CROOKED WAY TAROT is designed as a working pack aimed at practitioner and novice alike.
Choose From Two Collectible Yet Affordable Editions
Crooked Way Tarot will be produced in two quality editions by my friends at the Shenzhen Wangjing Printing Company, Ltd., the same company that printed my beautiful Trick Or Tarot and Tinker’s Damn Tarot decks, along with many other decks known to most of you.
- The "Salty Tears" (Standard) Edition: Almost-standard size 2.89” x 4.75” cards (slightly wider than normal), printed on 330 gsm German black core paper, (smooth finish), packaged in a simple tuck box with a 12-page LWB including card meanings and spreads.
- The Special "Noble Blood" Large-Size Limited Edition: Big 3.5” x 5.75” cards, printed on 350 gsm high quality art paper (smooth finish), with black foil edging. Packaged in a sturdy two-piece box, with a 12 page LWB including card meanings and spreads. ONLY 500 COPIES OF THIS EDITION WILL BE PRODUCED, AND IT WILL NEVER BE REPRINTED.
- For any pledge of $50 or above (not including the wholesale pledge levels), I will pull a single card especially for you from a deck of your choice (your options are The Crooked Way, Trick or Tarot or Tinker’s Damn Tarot) and sign it on the back, addressed to you personally. The card will ship at the same time as the finished Crooked Way decks.
And now here's a nifty little video that the printing company made to show off the beautiful work that they did with my TRICK OR TAROT deck. They did a similarly great job with my TINKER'S DAMN TAROT in the first part of 2018. I think we can expect more of the same great results from them this time around with the new CROOKED WAY TAROT!
All of the designs have been completed.
Barring the possibility of revisions before I make the final image files to send to the printer, all of the card designs are done. You can see them here: http://mysterydecks.tarotbyducksoup.com/p/crooked-way-tarot.html
And you can browse all of my decks and past projects, and download my complete, free Catalogue of Tarot and Oracle decks at www.tarotbyducksoup.com.
Add-Ons and Stretch Goals:
As before with all my Kickarter campaigns, we’ll deal with that when and if the initial goal is met. One thing at a time!
Why Kickstarter Again?
In order to achieve the quality that I want, at a price point that most tarot users and collectors can afford, I need to sell enough pre-orders of the deck to pay for its production, and once again I have turned to Kickstarter to accomplish that. By using Kickstarter to solicit pre-orders, nobody gets charged if the goal isn't met, and nobody is at risk. It's a way of keeping everything simple, structured and clearly above-board.
Who Am I?
I am a graphic artist, writer and cartoonist with 35+ years experience across all three disciplines. Four years ago I successfully funded my first tarot deck, Tarot of the Zirkus Mägi. Since then I have created several other popular Tarot, Oracle and Lenormand packs, offering them through my website, Tarot By Duck Soup. Most of my decks (excepting only the ones I have funded here via Kickstarter) are produced as “print on demand” decks. That is what I am gradually trying and hoping to change with these multiple Kickstarter campaigns.
The money raised here will cover the printing & shipping expenses of the TWO decks, plus Kickstarter and Amazon fees. I can't do this without your pre-order support.
Thank you all in advance for your kind support and encouragement!
Risks and challenges
I've done this several times before, and delivered on every project. Once the project is funded, the risks are negligible. Barring a few revisions, the card designs are all done and ready to go. I’m working with a reliable printing company that does great quality work. As soon as the deck is funded, I will give them the green light; the entire process takes about three months to complete. It will be documented beginning to end through Updates here.
Getting all the "rewards" assembled and shipped out can be fussy and time-consuming, but If this project is funded, it will be completed and delivered in as timely a fashion as possible by myself (not using any third-party fulfillment services) -- and I have plenty of happy supporters from my previous projects to vouch for that! After all, I'm just like you: a lover of books, tarot decks and movies who starts to ask "Where's my stuff?" the second that I plunk down my shekels. I feel your pain. Also I can't stand having things hanging over my head: I'm going to want to get this thing done just as much as you want it done!
