About this project
I've been writing songs for a long time now, and always had the intention of getting a real album made, with artwork and a bar code on the back, and all the other trappings of the major labels, but done independently. Somehow, it always seemed to get pushed back, put off, and delayed.
Days and months and years, they fade away...
The primary reason things like this get put on the back burner is money. In order to get an album recorded, mixed, mastered, and pressed, you need several thousand dollars, and that's not something that a lot of indie bands and artists can put together on their own.
This is what makes Kickstarter such an amazing thing! With your help, I can make this album happen. WE can make it happen. Instead of one person, or a few members of a band, needing to scrape together the entire amount, each person involved can chip in whatever they can afford.
Understand that when I say 'each person involved', I mean you as much as I mean me. Kickstarter makes art and invention a community project, and already a lot of really cool things have come from it. Let's make 'A Long Fall' the next cool thing on that list.
About the music:
I've written a few dozen songs over the years, and some of them have been discarded along the way, having failed to withstand the test of time. Of those dozens, I've saved about 20, and of those I'll be putting 10 or 11 on this CD.
I know that 'Last Good Thing' and 'Truth' (which you heard in the video... you DID watch the video, right?) will be on it, and I'm working out the final track listing now.
I have the software and hardware to get good recordings, and I've already invested thousands of dollars and countless hours on these songs. What I'm looking for now is enough money to get the album professionally mixed and mastered, and to get the initial run of physical disks produced.
Risks and challenges
Since all the songs are written, and some are even recorded, the artistic side of things is in the bag. There are some things, however, which might cause me to miss the October prediction:
There is always the chance that I could get a case of bronchitis, or that some other unforeseen event could delay the final recording of the remaining tracks.
There could be delays in the vendor pressing the CDs or making the shirts.
It could take me longer to fulfill the 'Genre of your choice' reward, depending on what those people choose, and how familiar I am with it. This won't delay the project, as a whole, only that specific reward.
There's also a chance I could get everything on the first take and get the CD out sooner. I chose October as a conservative estimate, and since I don't have to worry about coordinating with a marketing department or a media blitz, I'll release the CD as soon as it's done.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
