After 1 1/2 years of dreaming about opening a chef-driven restaurant in Lowell, Mass, a great opportunity to make it happen came along. We decided to go for it.
We found a great spot in a famous historic building on Merrimack Street in downtown Lowell known as the Bon Marche Building with a wonderful 2600 square foot restaurant space that was formerly known for restaurants like La Boniche and Bishop's Legacy. The space is in a prime location, will have a great outdoor seating area, and give us amazing visibility. By the beginning of July (in about 6 weeks or so), we hope the doors will be open and burgers will be cooking.
Lowell Burger Company will be a place for amazing, locally-sourced food, as much as a place for community. We are looking to our fellow food lovers to help make this possible. The excitement to bring this to life and share our space with you is building.
The dining room will reflect the heart of Lowell. A face-lift is in order. The new look will have industrial chic elements and be one of great vibes and energy. The goal is to complete the renovations over the next several weeks.
Here is where you come in. Your help will make this possible.
Walls and Mural: We will paint the ceilings, install tiles on the walls, and have a local artist create a giant mural that will tell the story of the building and Lowell. Cost: $3,500
Lighting: Various lighting fixtures will be purchased and installed for appropriate day and night time lighting, including pendants and wall lamps. Cost: $500
Table Tops and Seating: The remaining funds will go towards wood for our new table tops and benches. We are actually looking to purchase reclaimed wood for this. Cost: $1,000
Although we will be facing several other costs during the build-out for LBC, these are the main pieces that we need your help with. In the meantime, here are a couple examples of what we will do with the restaurant's look.
Risks and challenges
We will face several, potential obstacles in the next coming weeks. Working with a fast moving timeline and uncontrollable elements like licenses and inspections, a new restaurant requires advertising campaigns, accounting, a great team of employees, and much more.
We believe that we will be successful with the help and support we have from the city, friends, and family. With many the unexpected turns, we will be diligent to make it happen. We hope for your support in order to bring this great, new restaurant to life in our incredible city.
