"Star Trek: Ambush" is an upcoming short independent live action Star Trek film, approximately 20 minutes in length. It is being produced by a group of filmmakers all with many years filmmaking experience and with enough different skills to cover all aspects of filmmaking.
"Ambush" will introduce you to a new ship and crew that exist in the Star Trek Universe, The USS Ambush. Set just after the events portrayed in "Balance of Terror", the original series episode. By focusing on a single away mission to rescue a captured Commander, "Ambush" will shed some light on how the Federation ultimately dealt with the Romulans, after the initial incident involving Kirk and The Enterprise. As you'll discover in the film, the crew of the "Ambush" are a very unique and specialised group of people, who would always be the first choice to deal with a delicate matter such as the Romulans. Although the crew's existence is well known to the Federation, they're not keen on advertising their existence.
"Star Trek: Ambush" is going to be an exciting film and nothing like anything previously shown on Star Trek. It will have something for everyone, from the hardcore fans, to the casual fans and for those who just like great Sci-Fi films. But we need your help to make this film a reality.
Here's what we have:
- We're very fortunate to know many professionals willing to give up their own time for this film ranging from actors and makeup artists, seamstress' and carpenters, and everything in between.
- We have workshop space to fabricate props.
- We have a studio space in which to build a shuttlecraft set in.
- We have the latest camera and sound equipment, as well as the means to edit and do a great post production job.
- A finished screenplay ready to shoot and the combined experience of some very committed filmmakers.
So why do we need your help?
What we have is only the foundations of this film project. We need to raise the minimum amount in order to fund the following:
- The Logistics and Travel Expenses, as it does all add up.
- Fabricate and acquire more props.
- Provide the highest quality special makeup effects.
- Supply all the materials to build our sets, as well as hiring a larger space to construct a Romulan Base.
- Construct high quality models of the various ships that will appear in our film.
- Provide all our characters with costumes, including some specific tailored Romulan attire.
Thank you so much for to all our backers so far and to all the support we've received. The level of response and the generosity we've had already is truly incredible. In just 4 days of launching we've raised above and beyond our initial base goal, which means we're immediately able to start making “Star Trek: Ambush” even more impressive and exciting.
So we've set ourselves a new goal: to raise of £3,000. We believe with your continued help and support we can reach this goal, and to explain where the funds will be going we have set out our benchmarks below.
£2,000 – As previously mentioned, with “Star Trek: Ambush” we are going to make heavy use of miniatures. The script requires 2 different shuttlecraft and our main starship. We do have the necessary equipment and skills to make and shoot the models, but by reaching this stretch goal we can achieve a higher level of quality and detail. Our models themselves can have even more complex lighting rigs and separate servo controlled moving parts. We would also be able to invest in better tooling options to get an exceptional professional standard finish on them.
£2,500 – This will allow us to hire a much a larger studio space to build the set of the Romulan Base. The Romulan Base is a big part of the film and the more we can raise towards it, the grander and more sinister it can be.
£3,000 – This amount will allow us to fully take care of all our sound needs throughout the entire production. We'll be able to have an amazing clean and crisp professional grade sound mix, sound at the end of the day is half of the film and we want to be able to deliver you the best. With this amount also we can hire out more camera equipment to compliment our existing arsenal, this includes additional lenses and more detail when it comes to lighting.
Please check out the great rewards listed on the right. We have something for everyone like exclusive downloads, DVD's and posters. Then the more unique rewards:
- The Red Shirt Character named after you.
- The Commander named after you.
- Hand made props by Greg Lock, including a complete Original Series Style Medical Kit.
- A USS Ambush Uniform, made to your specifications.
Because of the nature of some of our higher rewards, they are limited, get them while you can.
Add-On Reward! The "Making Of" Book!
Due to the implementation of our stretch goals, we are now able to announce the addition of an add-on reward.
The majority of the professionals involved in Star Trek: Ambush have all kindly agreed to collaborate together by contributing to a “Making Of” book, only available to backers. The book which will be a minimum of 50 pages (probably a lot more) will document everything of every stage of “Star Trek: Ambush”. There will be step by step guides showing you how many of the visual effects are done, how the makeup effects are achieved (including the prosthetic parts), how the minatures, sets and props are made. We'll talk you through the various camera and lighting set ups we use. The book will give clear insight into how the project came about and how we set about putting it into motion. Also, our concepts, diagrams, set plans, model plans and much more will be included. Basically, what we're offering is a “bible” to show how you can make your own independent Star Trek film (or near enough any film), whilst reading up some interesting stories and anedotes as you go along. What ever your interest is, writing, acting, cinematography, directing, costume, production design, vfx, model making, you get the idea. It will be covered! All the information you could need in one single handy book!
So how can you get a copy? Simply add to your existing pledge or when you make your first pledge add the following:
£5 – A PDF download of the book.
£15 – A physical hard copy of the book, a professional high quality full colour printed softback.
Please note, a small shipping fee will be required for the physical book if you are pledging from outside the United Kingdom. If your current reward includes a shipping fee you don't need to worry, we can combine the shipping. If your reward does not include a shipping fee and you would like a physical book, please add £5.
Free Gift for Backers who pledge £30 or more.
In light of the success so far with our Kickstarter and in order to thank you, I'm pleased to able to announce a free gift to everyone who pledges or has already pledged £30 or more. A shiny gold engraved miniature replica of the dedication plaque of the USS Ambush! The plaque is made from high quality plastic and measures approximately 7x3 inches, each one will come with a personalised thank you note, signed by myself (or this can be written on the plaque itself, back or front, should you prefer, just let me know). If you haven't pledged £30 or more and would like a plaque, simply increase your pledge. Please note a £5 shipping fee will be needed for outside of UK, but ONLY if your current pledge doesn't include one.
So please, spread the word and give what you can.
We're all so excited about this film and really want you all to be a part of it. If we can't raise the minimum amount then "Star Trek: Ambush" can't happen. So we're not lying when we say we really need your help and the more you can give, the more impressive Star Trek film we can make for you all to enjoy.
Keep checking back for updates, as well as on other places:
