The Corridor tells the story of a world recovering after a cataclysmic event.

The struggling survivors, clinging to an ever decaying society where murder, assault and battery run rife, turn to an experimental form of justice.

Known only as the “The Corridor”, the experimental program allows specially selected individuals to be trained as Custodians. Custodians are tasked with entering the minds of suspected murders in attempt to solve the most twisted and horrific murders.

Once connected, a custodians primary role is to seek out memory evidence of their crimes.

The game’s foundation lies in its strong story, atmosphere and exploration but will also include puzzle and adventure elements.

Ri Anderson  

You will take on the role of Ri Anderson. Trained as a custodian from childhood, he has spent years inside the memories of some of the most depraved minds. 

'It was not for the first time that I sat fearful and alone desperate to keep my eyes shut from what I knew awaited me, from what I knew I must face, and yet I knew my duty. I knew the role of a Custodian. Cautiously I opened my eyes, the visions of past experiences rushing through my mind, filling me with dreaded expectation. 

To both my great relief and great trepidation I found myself in a bare metal room, sealed off and alone from the outside world. I felt the smooth metal beneath my hands and a shiver shot through my very soul. The room was cold, dank, old, but that wasn’t the source of my distress. Something felt… off. Like the very air itself carried a kind of necrotic impurity.

Where was I? Why was I there? To what nefarious purpose did my new isolated cell serve?

The elongated silence was pierced suddenly sending my heart racing and I scrambled away from the sound. What was that? Then I realised, the loud scream was metal on metal as gears ground together causing me to descend deeper into this new hell I’d walked into. Duty had forced me to these depths again, duty had forced my from the real world into this realm of insanity, duty to discover the mystery behind our latest spree of heinous murders so fowl even the press shied away from the details.

In the distance I began to hear them, the sounds that would forever haunt me in my quiet moments. The sounds that would be there, waiting for me in the silence of my own mind. The vague whispers in the dark, the mumblings of the mad. The devils and demons that speak of unspeakable things, that try to tempt you, to twist you, to turn you away from yourself. The notes and strings that pierce through the very veil of existence building in a rampant crescendo threatening to drive all reason from your mind. Noises and distant echoes that seer visions in your mind of the most horrific of existences, of tortures and violations too personal and intimate to bear.  

I felt it building inside, a pressure pushing against my will, threatening to break. What state of mind was this? Were these things happening? Had they happened? Were they memories or secret desires made corporeal? Were they the killers thoughts or, more troubling, were they my own? Was this who I was? When would this end?  

Then the world came to a shuddering halt.  

I breathed deep, took a moment to gather myself, and walked out into the darkness.

Story-driven game-play

As well as creating a first person horror experience, the game will deal with emotional themes such as love, death, revenge & loss.

Nonlinear narrative

Each player will experience the game differently as memories of the suspect are retrieved erratically.

Multiple Endings

You will be able to choose how it all ends dependent upon your experiences within the game but we can’t tell you much more on that or the plot will be ruined! Our lips are sealed!

Corridors & Hatches

The corridor program creates the environments you explore by piecing together memories from the killers subconsciousness mind.

Corridor’s act as conduits that Custodians must explore to gain access to the memories of the mind. They can contain clues, creatures, or evidence.

Hatches can be thought of as gates or revolving doors. Located throughout the environment, they allow travel back and forth between memories and the corridor.


Entering hatches can put you in unexpected situations & environments.

Be prepared.

Puzzle Solving

  • The game will include a variety of puzzle based activities ranging in scope form physics based to riddles.
  • Solving puzzles will reward you in different ways such as new story segments or items needed to progress.

The Hack

'The Hack' is a character you will encounter within the game world. It is sub system of the corridor program and acts as a conduit for the connected minds.

This early test video show’s him coming to life as the player connects to the Corridor. 

The Hack can manifest itself in many forms and is susceptible to both minds.

Dr Crow

A mysterious disturbance within the corridor framework, what it is and who it is are unknown.

A creature who roams the mind of the suspect you are investigating.

MOM

The Memory Observation and Modification Bureau or MOM, is a shadowy corporation with a governmental contract to run the justice system.

 It’s wide ranging remit includes the Corridor Technologies Program and the associated administration.

The privatization of justice has arrived.

As you progress you'll uncover the truth about the sinister corporation.

Encounters

Adapt or die

During your play through, you will be faced with unnerving encounters and creatures that will protect key memories from you.

You must find a way to obtain those memories without direct confrontation.

Anchoring

The game will include a deployable save beacon system. You will usually have to hunt around to find the beacon and then choose when & where to deploy your save. Once deployed the beacon will lock and save you to that area, in effect ‘anchoring’ you to that point in the mind.

Cohesion

Custodians are reliant on a drug called Cohesion. It allows the merging of mind and machine.

Psychological Health

Rather than a traditional health system where you might just receive physical damage, you will have to contend with problems associated with psychological trauma and its effect on the body.

As well as suffering physical pain, unnerving events and encounters within the game will have an effect on your mental abilities. This can manifest itself as various phenomena such as corridor connection collapse, abnormal control behavior and visual and auditory deliriums.

Stick me

Hypos can replenish health but be careful to check their use by date. Each cohesion hypo will have its own 'use-by-date' and will eventually become inert if not used.

Taking it at different stages of deterioration can have interesting…side effects!

Lurking Fear

The atmosphere for the game draws its reference from classic horror games such as the Silent hill and Resident evil series.

The environments are designed to create anxiety by being constantly uncomfortable as you play; you’ll feel a state of dread as you explore the darkness.

We’re working with the ethos ‘it’s what you don’t see which makes you afraid!” Sometimes the most effective horror is that which is suggested in the mind.

That’s not to say there won’t be a monster or two lurking somewhere in the dark…

The game has a strong sci-fi theme running through it. Set in a decimated future, the world is piecing together old and new technologies.

An essential aspect of great immersive horror is its musical score and its remarkable ability to create atmosphere.

You can expect an emotive atmospheric score full of tension and terror in the style of the silent hill series.

We’re developing the Corridor with the Unity game engine. Unity is a powerful game development tool which will allow us to create the game with AAA fidelity.

We have a great working knowledge of the engine and have built our own tools to assist with development.

Ultimately, we've dreamed, created & released games with it too!

We’re looking forward to the technology Unity 5 is bringing to the table and Integrating it into the game.

Physically-based shaders

We’re already using a PBS (Physically Based Shader) setup but we’ll be keeping an eye on unity’s native system to increase the visual fidelity of the game. Metal, plastics, wood & ceramics will look incredible.

Truly awesome sound

Unity’s new audio mixing system brings never before seen audio functionality to gaming software and will allow us to create a deeply emotive musical score.

A truly immersive experience is paramount to the design of the game and that’s why we’re including OR support from the off.

The Oculus Software Development Kit (SDK) includes out-of-the-box engine integration for Unity.

We want you to be able to experience the game in VR and fully immerse yourself in the terror! We won’t just be ‘tacking’ on support either, the advancement of the technology will really help drive player experience and immersion in the game world.

We’re currently at a pre-alpha stage of development, our core team has developed everything you see so far. We’ve worked incredibly hard, night and day to bring a polished demo but we have reached the end of the road on limited funds.

Risks and challenges

We needed to sit and think about this for some time. What are our risks and challenges?

Those are important questions to answer, not only for ourselves but for you, our backers.

Our responsibility is to you the backer and we need to be accountable.

Game development is a complex, expensive, and time consuming endeavour.

Currently, our biggest challenge is that the team work on other projects to finance the game which leads to a loss of valuable time and focus.

Funding from Kick-starter will allow us all to refocus and concentrate all our efforts on making the game as awesome as possible.

That’s not to say we won’t face new challenges throughout development, even AAA studios often experience delays for their colossal budgeted games.

Our core team consists of dedicated professionals with years of experience. We have a long history of working together and delivering project for clients & to deadline.

The goal of £37,500 is what we honestly believe to be a bare-bones minimum amount needed to complete the project and fulfill all the rewards. It will allow us to remain independent and true to the original vision of the game.
