An experiment in crowd-funded fast publishing: a new book on carbon neutral cities we'll write, design+ publish in the next 3 weeks! Read more
This project was successfully funded on April 14, 2011.
Just ahead: Manuscript, TED Global, Video, Syndication and a Big Party
I hope you're enjoying the start of your summer! Things are great (if busy) here, and I wanted to give you an update on progress towards Carbon Zero.
The short take is that good work is getting done, things have gained a momentum of their own, which is exciting, but everything is still taking longer than anticipated. The book itself is slowly nearing completion and will soon be ready for design. It's been a lot more work than I initially expected (making an original argument that's substantive, well-documented and above all brief is tough writing, to say the least). On the other hand, I'm feeling like it's getting really solid. I hope you'll agree that it's a pretty good result for three months' work.
I'll be presenting the basic argument for the first time at the TED Global conference next week in Edinburgh. I've also been working with a great group of filmmakers, a robot helicopter camera and some effects geniuses on a video explaining the basics that we can use in promoting the project when it's ready to launch. In addition, it's looking like we may be syndicating the book as a series of columns online: more about that shortly. The ultimate goal, of getting the word out, should really be helped by this kind of exposure.
Finally, the goal is now to have the happy hour as a party instead, and in the second half July (which is a great time to have fun in Seattle). As soon as we get the date pinned down, I'll be sending out the invitations. Please stay tuned!

Thank you so much for all the support and encouragement you've been sending my way. It really means a lot.
