After ten years as Dorchester’s "umbrella arts organization", we are this close to having our own space! During that decade The Dorchester Arts Collaborative (DAC) has been running Open Studios, creating local partnerships, connecting artists with galleries and patrons, and shepherding the "Sleeping Moon" project at Ashmont Station. Last year we broadened our visual arts focus to include performance arts, filmmaking, music, dance, and spoken word.

Now we have an even greater opportunity to serve our expanded mission by opening a center for the arts in the name of the late community activist and arts supporter Erick Jean. Located half a block from the new Fairmount “T” Station and a bus ride away from the iconic Strand Theater, we envision a new arts corridor in this culturally vibrant neighborhood.

We want to include a kitchen in the this new 1200 square foot community space at 157 Washington Street in the Four Corners area of Dorchester.

Having a kitchen will allow us to use the space for artist's receptions, painting classes, meetings with refreshments and staff meals. Your support would allow us to purchase:

  • Kitchen appliances including electric range, microwave oven, and refrigerator.
  • Stainless steel sink and faucet.
  • Stain-resistant laminate counter tops.
  • Wood base cabinets with drawers and doors.
  • 27 linear feet of open shelving.
  • Two industrial pendant light fixtures.

If we receive more than the requested amount we would upgrade the counter tops to solid surfacing or quartz and outfit the kitchen with pots & pans, china, glasses and utensils.

About Us

The Dorchester Arts Collaborative was founded in 2002 to develop and facilitate arts programming in Dorchester and to cultivate the social, cultural, and economic enrichment of Boston's largest and most diverse neighborhood.

DAC is a 501 (c)(3) entity so all contributions are 100% tax deductible.

Our most visible project is Open Studios which occurs on a Saturday and Sunday in October. Last year we had More than 70 visual artists exhibiting at group and home studios--PLUS-- for the first time, performers at The Great Hall, writers reading their poetry and fiction at Pilgrim Church, and film screenings at the Carney Hospital.

This summer DAC has a consistent presence at the Ashmont Farmers' Market. This is the fourth year that DAC has participated in the seasonal venue. In addition to giving our members more exposure, we see this as a test run for a winter gift shop in The Erick Jean Art Center.

We are in the process of leasing 1200 sq ft of raw commercial space on the plaza level of a new affordable housing development at 157 Washington Street. We are very excited about the prospect of having a dedicated space in which to offer classes, workshops, dance, theater, film and gallery shows, run by local artists for students of all ages.

By adding a kitchen we will be able to have our opening receptions in a consistent, central location, identified as DAC space and reinforcing our physical presence in the community.

We're almost there...we just need a Kickstart!
