About this project
"The black, bubbling clouds slowly rolled along the early morning sky. Grit knew that it was morning only from the small fragments of an intensely hot and bright sun, burning through the omnipotent curtain to the east. He could hear the water of the ocean slamming itself against the shore littered with dead coral, and ships. The tide was advancing from the depths of the dark waters. Soon it wouldn't be safe for him in his makeshift shelter, made from an old two-man pop-up tent and some camophlage netting he had saved all these years. Taking a quick look around to scan his surroundings, Grit quickly jumped up from his worn, bloodstained blankets and animal furs to start a fire. Stocking the coals of his fireplace with wood and tinder, he blew on them to bring them back to life. It wasn't the cold that drove him to make a fire every morning, but the wonderful, relaxing feeling he got from coffee. Even after all these years following the war and the fall of the great empires of the world, he still couldn't have a good morning with out his daily cup of joe. As the fire slowly began to take hold of the small tinder he had gathered from the dunes the day before, he added small bits of drift wood and hot burning styrofoam he had pulled from the water's edge, while hunting for an easy meal. "
Within the pages of "Other World", I hope to take my readers on a journey into the future of my mind, a place that no one but myself has been. Imagine a wildly different world than the one we call home.
The book follows the adventures and tribulations of Grit Hopkins, an ex-soldier who is living in the year 2057 in the post World War 3 era. The great world governments have fallen, and the landscape has been changed due to the ferocity of nuclear weapons as well as the man-made terrors that were created to supposedly protect the country. As Grit journeys through the book, he encounters strange and terrifying creatures, pisses off a few city-states, and gains some friends along the way.
His mission: to discover what happened to his wife and children he hasn't seen or heard from in the 12 years since the end of the war that changed their world forever. As he struggles to survive in a ruthless environment, Grit's internal conflict will also be a major part of the book as well.
This book will obviously be a fiction, and although I did want to write an "end of times" book, I thought that the zombie scene has run it's course, so no zombies will be present in this book. In their place, I promise to put other monsters (both previously imagined and some of my own making) into the story!
After much research, I realize that this endeavor cannot be achieved by myself alone, and without the proper channels to even get an audience with a giant publishing company, I have come to the conclusion to publish my own work. This will require hard work, diligence, and the funds to get a copyright, find a distributor, book a printing company, and then market the product.
I've always wanted to be a writer, ever since my mother bought me a copy of Jules Vernes' "Journey to the Center of the Earth" when I was 8 years old. I have been whisked away by the stories of others, taken to other times and places. I have seen a time in my life when the escape of books helped save my life, and now I want to give it back...
Hopefully, with the generous help and support the patrons on this site, my dreams can be realized! I hope that this has been an introduction that has touched your heart! This is a small taste of my upcoming book, "Other World":
"He returned to the fire and quickly set to work pulling out his water purifier. In a world where modern technologies such as purified water had disappeared, having a way to pull the impurities from any water source was an invaluable asset. The percolator he treasured had been discovered at an old antique shop several years back while passing through an abandoned town in what used to be Nevada. It had been sitting on a shelf inside the shop, which happened to be the only store in the town that hadn't had it's windows broken. Grit assumed that looters hadn't felt that already "useless" items would be of any value after the bombs fell.
And then there was his precious stash of coffee grounds."

Risks and challenges
There are some risks and challenges which are associated with writing/self-publishing your own work, such as hiring a printing house, getting the supplies for paper and binding in a timely manner, making sure that there are no complications with copyrighting the material, and of course the fulfillment of project obligations.
The first thing to think about is making sure that I have the manuscript finished and ready to print in a timely manner, which will require those of you who choose to be an honorary editor to follow through and send your feed back to me quickly. Likewise, those of you who choose to be a character in my story and want a specific role in the story should make sure that their submissions come back to me swiftly. The faster the manuscript is complete, the more promptly I can deliver on my part of the deal.
Next would be making sure I have the ingredients to bringing this masterpiece novel to you, i.e. the paper, binding material, and hiring a printing house. Ordering the supplies is not such a big problem. It's making sure that it's delivered on time, and that the printing house is ready to print and bind the material. Hopefully nothing will go wrong along the printing press and the job is done professionally.
The copyrighting should not be such a hassle, although problems can still arise. For the copyright, I luckily have resources I can go to for professional (legal) opinions, and hopefully it will be a fairly quick process.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I am currently about 20% of the way through writing the book. I plan on having Grit Hopkins meet other characters further into the book, so there is still time..
