About this project
Once upon a wildfire two Firefighters realized that their $400 fire boots were really only as good as the $3 pair of laces!
Why you ask?
Because a $400 pair of boots with $3 laces become worthless boots when the laces fail. More Videos (CLICK HERE)

Think about it. Laces have not really changed for centuries. String, hemp, cord etc. make laces that are functional but do they last? The answer is unequivocally no! The fire resistant ones can be cut. The cut resistant ones can burn. There are many options out there but they all wear out because of abrasion, even the Kevlar ones. The toughest laces on the market say they will last a lifetime but really only last a few months. Unacceptable!!!
Hiking, Working, Snowboarding, Firefighting, Hunting & Military boots all have this flaw.
It is time for you to break away from the herd and RHINO UP!
100% made in the USA with USA materials. Go Rhino! Go USA!
What's a Center Stop? Don't spend time trying to center your laces on you boots. We have that covered. Also keeps debris from getting under your laces
Metal Lace tips. Don't worry we have flown with these. The TSA was confused but let us go through.
WHAT ABOUT SIZES???
We will contact you once our campaign is funded. These are made in increments of 8 inches. So measure your boot/shoe laces before hand. You can also count the eyelets. For every eyelet add about 4 inches. So a boot with 16 eyelets (8 on each side of the boot) would need a boot lace that is 64 inches. Snowboarding Boot Laces- Measure your old ones!
HOW RHINO LACES WERE INVENTED.
Rhino Laces came about when two wildland firefighters (Adam and Justin) got tired of having to replace their boot laces 2 or 3 times a year. They began their search in early 2012 for an unbreakable boot lace.
They tried leather but leather always broke or burned
They tried para cord but it too broke or burned.
They tried runners laces....ha ha those lasted for about two weeks.
They tried Kevlar laces...they lasted for awhile and eventually broke.
The fire resistant ones can be cut. The cut resistant ones can burn. There are many options out there but they all wear out because of abrasion, even the Kevlar ones. The toughest laces on the market say they will last a lifetime but really only last a few months. Unacceptable!!!
While flying on a helicopter, on the way to a wildfire, Justin saw something that would change boot laces forever. 2 weeks later they completed their first prototype. A flexible, tieable, unbreakable, cut and fireproof boot lace. www.rhinolaces.com
Over the next several months they gave out prototypes to fellow Firefighters, Soldiers, and Law Enforcement officers that they worked with and the word spread fast. They started getting requests for their unbreakable boot laces almost daily.
They realized that they were going to have to figure out a way to mass produce these laces and improve the finished look.
This is why we are on KickStarter.
We have to automate as much as possible and take these laces from prototypes to a real product that anyone can get. For the past 12 months we've been testing and refining Rhino Laces. We are ready to begin production. Your support will help fund the first production run and get the Rhino Laces on your boots! The funding will assist with the cost of tooling, manufacturing and distribution. We will also be using the funding to expand the range of laces available for you to choose from.
In order to bring Rhino Laces to life, we need your support. Not only does this mean pledging for Rhino Laces, but also sharing this project with your friends. Something as simple as tweeting about our page or sharing our Facebook page will go a long way to the success of Rhino Laces. So please take a moment and click on the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram tabs at the top of the page and don’t keep Rhino Laces a secret!
Our Proposed Time Line:
1. 1st month: We would like to buy 2 automatic multi-material cutters that will automatically measure and cut the RHINO materials in to length. Vastly cutting down our production time.
2. 1st month: Work with a supplier and manufacturer in NY to have the laces produced in mass rolls. 5000 ft per roll etc..
3. 1st month: We have Patent Pend but we also need to file 3 design and utility patents.
4. On going: We want everything to be made in the USA. Continue to seek out durable parts and materials that are all USA made.
5. 1.5 months: We need to purchase SKU's and packaging materials
6. 2-3 months begin fulfilling Kick-starter commitments early April.
7. 1 yr: There is potential for these laces to be used with any shoe not just boots. We would need to research lace sizes for other footwear and test.
Culmination of steps 1-6 = We feel that there are military applications and we would like to pursue a DOD contract to make laces for the folks in uniform. We would need materials and enough laces to prove that we could support that task.
It has been 13 months since Justin and Adam laced up their boots with their prototypes. 36 fires and 100's of miles later those original prototypes are still kicking it. Watch our Video
Here is our Guarantee because we feel so strongly about this product.
What is the Rhino Guarantee? It is a guarantee that you can depend on your RHINO LACES™ to perform whenever and wherever you go. This is no B.S. These laces won't fail YOU EVER. The Rhino LACES™ are the only ones that have this guarantee. They have been manufactured to withstand anything.
The guts of these laces will never break or cut or rip. The exterior is subject to abrasion and cuts, however the guts will always remain. This will allow your boots to go through literally anything and even if the exterior of your laces are on fire, severed, or torn the guts will always hold them on your boots.

Risks and challenges
As we complete orders we will fill them. So the first people to order will be the first people to get their laces.
When our project is fully funded we will seek out a patent attorney to make sure our idea and design is fully protected. Once that is complete we will begin fulfilling the orders. We have already confirmed that 90% of the material that we need are available. The other 10% can be gotten over several months. If it looks like our kickstarter campaign is going to be funded then we will start gathering all the materials we will need ASAP. We will strive to keep everyone updated bi-monthly along with videos.
We still work full time so if we are sent to a fire there will be about a 2 week delay for that months production.
Our goal is to produce 250 units per month allowing us to fill all orders by September to November. If we get over funded then there will be an altered time frame that we will update you on.
Having said that, we know that there may be unanticipated challenges along the way, and in the true spirit of crowd funding, we intend to be totally transparent with any hurdles that we encounter and will keep you up to date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We will contact you once our campaign is funded. These rhino laces are made in increments of 8 inches. So measure your boot/shoe laces before hand. These laces should be tied with a simple square knot. Unlike other laces it is not necessary to tie a bow.
If you want to use the lace lock and not tie them then your laces should follow this rule. Count the eyelets. For every eyelet on your boot add about 4 inches. So a boot with 16 eyelets (8 on each side of the boot) would need a boot lace that is 64 inches. Snowboarding Boot Laces- Measure your old ones!
Yes. We offer 3 pledge packages that are available for international shipping. They are $54 and up, but include 4 sets of laces. We did this to lower shipping costs ($30) for us but give our supporters more for their support. We promise we are not xenophobic, we just didn't think it would be so popular. Please don't contact the UN and report us for international crimes against humanity.
I'm in the military...if I have anything other than Coyote on my combat boots, they will post me at a guard shack in the Arctic, with only a can of tuna and a rubber band gun. Coyote isn't an option in your 4 packs...can it be?
Absolutely. Due to the massive amount of color options, lengths, and accessory options, we had to simplify it on our pledge page. We will be debuting two additional packages today that are tailored to the needs of our military supporters (and anyone else). Plus, our city and state are listed on our profile and we don't want an artillery round to land in our living rooms. On a positive note, polar bear is delicious. Our laces are rated to 2500 lbs tensile strength, so a snare shouldn't be hard to make if you end up there.
One package will be named "Fire for Effect" and the other will be "Danger Close". Stay tuned to our page for the updates!
I'm another military service member. My sergeant will rip my arms off and beat the guy next to me with them if I have a black center stop on my laces because it is not part of my uniform. Can I get laces without them?
Once again, we don't want to be a friendly fire casualty. In our new Military pledge packages, we will not include the center stop.
It is $24 for priority international shipping. The package will be 12 x 9 is more than 1 inch thick. We tacked on 6 bucks for handling This requires different packaging than what we already have for individual laces. We also can't ship these from our place of business and have to go the post office. We reduced the cost of the laces to off set this higher shipping price.
$15 to Canada too. We can not differentiate between Canada and the rest of International shipping on kickstarter so we would have to create a pledge package for just Canada. As of right now we don't plan to do that.
Thanks for supporting this idea.
We hope you understand that we aren't a big company with lots of options yet...
Thanks and take care.
