About this project
We all know that feeling. Those times in your life when it seems like the odds are stacked against you. Everything is toppling down, and you’re left in the rubble. And guess what. It may not be pretty, but you’ve survived and created a new life in spite of it all.
For women who are bravely taking on apocalyptic obstacles big or small, whether you’re pitching in a difficult client meeting, or dealing with a boss who is being a total zombie all while fighting the sub zero chill of office AC, or losing a job or a loved one and making it on your own, the Apocalypse. Ready. collection of clothing and accessories melds modern form and function so you feel empowered strong and confident enough to take on the day.
Azmara Asefa is the founder and designer of AZMARA ASEFA, the company that brings you this kit of Apocalypse. Ready. clothing and accessories. She practiced architecture in London, Ohio, Atlanta, and Los Angeles for years before making the transition into the fashion arena.
Architecture influenced her love of 3D-Printing, laser cutting, clean lines, minimal silhouettes, and interesting textures. This niche specialty won Azmara a spot in the national emerging designer competition at Phoenix Fashion Week in 2015 where she began her mentorship with True Religion co-founder, Kym Gold. She will appear on the shopping network, EvineLive, this fall to launch her diffusion women’s fashion line.
As the daughter of an Ethiopian refugee, Azmara is inspired by world cultures, resilient people, and the generosity of the human spirit, which is why 10% of the brand's future sales will go to the Women’s Refugee Commission. No Kickstarter funds will be donated. She resides in Los Angeles where her collection is also produced.
Using my skills as an architect, I’ve integrated innovative technology with minimalist fashion to produce:
- bold architectural lines
- laser-cut geometries
- detailed 3D-printed accessories
These features are engineered to flatter, maintain optimal comfort, and adjust with your daily needs. This collection is built to equip you for all the tough times.
The moto jacket's minimal form is meant to flatter rather than add mass! Smart darting and curved hems smooth out your curves. All the flash happens in the back, but there's some functionality to all the laser cut-outs. They act as ventilation so all your heat doesn't get trapped and icky when you want to wear it out on a spring day.
I’m excited to share the collection with the Kickstarter community. With your help, the collection can go into production and be worn by take-charge women like yourself and women you know and love. As part of the Apocalypse. Ready. attitude, we follow sustainable business practices, starting with people first! The accessories and clothing are all produced in the United States.
We work with state of the art 3d-printing factories, local laser-cutting studios, and hand-selected cut and sew factories to guarantee that everything is made to our ethical and quality standards.
How are the 3D printed accessories made?
We create a 3D model in a CAD software called Rhino 3D. The model is virtually tested for potential failures. It is, then, manually checked for potential failures. Upon passing inspection, a version of the model is 3D-printed in wax. A plaster mold is poured around a wax 3d print of your product, and Bronze is cast into the plaster mold. It, then, goes through extensive hand polishing to give it a smooth, glossy finish.
It's made with technology and love just for you!
How do I know my ring size?
Here’s a link to ring size guide. Print out the PDF on an 8.5x11 page with no scaling to fit. Place a ring you have over the circles to see what size your ring matches.
Can I get a custom size?
Right now, the only sizes we carry are XS-L. As we grow, we’d love to include all sizes. The shapeshifting jacket and dress are flow and loose to accommodate different sizes and shapes.
How much is shipping?
Shipping on accessories is free in the US. Shipping on clothing is $12 in the US. Consult the rewards to see shipping for overseas.
How many ways can I wear the Shapeshifting Jumpsuit and Dress?
You can wear a variety of tops under the jumpsuit and dress. Additionally, you can wear them:
Belted all around
Belted in the front, cape in the back
Belted in the back, cape in the front
How do I care for my wooden accessories?
The Wooden Rings are sealed with natural sealer. Every 3-6 months you can polish the ring with mineral oil if needed.
How do I care for my 3D-printed accessories?
We’ve seen these accessories take a beating. If it comes in contact with water, be sure to dry it thoroughly.
Risks and challenges
We spent last year building relationships with our partners, sourcing fabrics, testing 3D-prints and laser-cuts. We love the outcome, fit, and quality of all our samples, and we like and trust our partners. We also have fashion industry veteran mentors who offer great guidance. We will always be transparent with our you about challenges, including:
Ship date: We have built in extra time for the manufacturing process and are confident we will ship by the projected dates, but there is always a chance that things will take longer than planned.
Product changes: As we refine the product line based on additional community feedback and more product testing, slight changes may be made. We'll only make minimal changes that enhance the product experience.
Supplier coordination: We work with a variety of suppliers to source the best fabrics and trims and ensure that the product is developed correctly. Each supplier has its own challenges, which may affect its partners, including us.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
