Misfit fraternal twins April & Claire come of age and learn to relate to their past, present & future possibilities, family & friends.
We are pleased to announce Twisted Hibiscus has wrapped principal photography.
We are half way through the picture edit! We will soon begin scoring, color correction, & other post essential to polish the film and give it a finished feeling.
This project, thus far entirely made possible through starting funds raised on Kickstarter, equipment and crew from Brooklyn's Bayard Studios, the support of friends & family, the most easygoing minivan rental in the greater New York area, a sense of adventure, and Larissa's job tending store, is moving forward!
The storyline is as follows: misfit fraternal twins Claire and April come of age and embark on their careers as artists. The girls' dream of escaping the their benevolent yet narrow-minded small-town to live in the city encounter various obstacles.
First, they are scouted to be on a TV show about bands, and are pulled off of the show by their overprotective mom. Their next attempt at freedom comes in running away to try to rejoin their friends in the city, and comes to a screeching halt when one of the girls is kidnapped. Finally, the girls and their mother agree to meet halfway and tour in the Willow family minivan. Various road trip antics, a pair of stowaways, the mental and physical drama of life on the road!
After upbringing in a strictly disciplined yet freewheeling background, the girls emerge into a life that is much more interesting, but at the same time more frightening than they had imagined.
In this comic coming of age story, produced by independent writer/first-time director Larissa Simpson, in collaboration with Brooklyn located BayardStudios, watch the twin girls and their best friends as they learn to deal with balancing dreamers' mind with the need to make it in the real world.

The story's empahsis changed during the course of production. We made it with an appreciation for dry humor and 1920s-30s-style physical comedy.
Thank you so much to everyone who has helped this project!
It's been possible to keep making this film as I meet interesting people I can bounce ideas off of. This was important in way more ways than can be put into words!
