Fun, inexpensive games that can be placed and played in the most unusual of spaces - because they're stickers!
Update (3/29)! With less than 24 hours left, we're sweetening the pot on our $2,000 stretch goal. In addition to the PDF of customizable Stickers in Public, we'll send all backers a PDF version of the successful conference game version of Stickers in Public so that you can print out and run your own!
Update (3/15)! Now that we're funded, development has begun on the other stickers, starting with Treasure Hunt. Backers can see concept art in the Updates. We've also hit a major stretch goal, so every backer at the $20 level or higher will get an extra 3.5"x4" sticker!
Main story: Imagine someplace mundane. Maybe it's your doctor's waiting room, your office, the park where you walk your dog, or a room in your house. Stickers in Public is a set of 8 games that can be placed in any of these places and millions of others to turn them into unexpected playgrounds. How does it work? Simple. Each sticker has the rules for one game on it, so when you slap it on the wall, your laptop, or a whiteboard, you'll suddenly change that space entirely. It's not just a coffee shop anymore... it's a cooperative art project or a race where you can take as much time as you want.
None of the games require experience, knowledge, or special equipment so you can stick them literally anywhere. Yes, that's a challenge! Play them any time: while walking the dog, crossing the street, or sitting in your office.
Stickers in Public encourage players to explore, interact, share, relieve stress, and entertain themselves (and each other). If you're in the area, players will also entertain you!
Cool, but if there are 8 games, why are there 9 stickers?
One of the games, Treasure Hunt, has one rule sticker like the others, but also has a reward sticker, the Treasure. The Treasure sticker has some cool art on it, but there's also a blank space for you to write in whatever you'd like as the reward (a congratulations message, something meaningful to you, a discount code, a URL? Surprise us!). Since the stickers are plastic, you can use a dry erase marker to create a new message whenever you like.
What are the other games?
In addition to Treasure Hunt (+ Treasure), you'll get Mole-mentum, Musical Chairs?, TXT Racing, Lava, Art Smart, A Friendly Face, Memory Mastery, and Color Picker.
Won't people vandalize everything with stickers?
Nope! We trust people to do what's right and ask permission if they're posting stickers someplace that isn't publicly available. Even if someone puts one where they shouldn't, these stickers use a "removable" style of adhesive, like a Post-It Note on steroids. This makes it easy for property owners to clean up as well as allowing you to move your stickers around to keep things fresh.
Why play at all?
If your boss asks why you're putting stickers on the whiteboard, this section may come in handy.
Having fun reduces stress and increases happiness; people who have fun regularly are twenty times more likely to be happy! Play improves memory and actually causes your brain to grow. Being playful can increase job performance (that’s right, games are productive!), creativity, focus, ambition, resilience, and trust.
Play creates optimism, enhances the immune system, and promotes a sense of belonging and community. A life without play puts you at risk for stress-related disease, mental health issues, addiction, and interpersonal violence.
In short, we are better people when we play.
$750 (done!) – as soon as Stickers in Public is funded, development starts on the other stickers, beginning with Treasure Hunt!
$1000 (done!) – a secret artist with a totally different style will create their vision of one of our stickers to be included in the backer-only PDF.
$1500 (done!) – we’ll print the secret artist sticker and send it out to everyone who backed at the $20 level or higher.
$2000 – we'll create a printable set of Fill-in-the-Blank Stickers in Public so that you can easily create custom stickers for your office, home, or community! In addition, we'll send out a PDF of the conference version that we ran at TEDxBloomington and the Game Developers' Conference.
$2500 - an extra sticker with an exclusive Kickstarter game that will be sent to everyone backing at the $10 level or higher.
Everybody gets behind the scenes access, including all of the art as it comes in, final design tweaks, playtesting notes, and PDF versions of each of the stickers as they're finished. Anything that we do on this project, you'll know too!
Stickers in Public PDF
Once the design is 100% done, we'll put the sticker designs into a single PDF so that you can print your own. This will be made available even before the actual stickers ship, so you'll get them as soon as possible.
Of course, the primary goal for the Kickstarter is the stickers. This will be the full set of 9 stickers (8 games) printed on at 3.5"x4". The stickers will have a glossy UV coating so that they'll last longer even if battered by the elements.
Some games just need to be big. Line Racers is one of these, because you need to draw on it. That's why we're printing up a 4"x6" version and not a smaller one and why it's a Kickstarter exclusive that won't be made available after we're done! We'll also include a "What ARE Stickers in Public?" sticker at the same size, suitable for posting at the entrance to your home/business/gallery to help people understand that something special is happening there.
House Rules Stickers
You're a creative person and these stickers let you show it. These stickers will look just like a normal Sticker in Public except that the name and instructions will be left blank so that you can write in your own with a marker. We'll also include a list of suggested games, including several variants of existing games and a few games that haven't made it through playtesting yet. One of the stickers will be 3.5"x4" for discreet games and the other will be 4"x6" for games that deserve to be big!
If you back at this level, we'll work with you to create a customized PDF in addition to the regular PDF. The customized PDF will include the same games, but with your own unique twist. Maybe the colors need to match your carpet or your daughter's name should be on every one. Whatever makes it cooler for you will go into the PDF.
No Talent Required
This is a convention game that we've run multiple times with good success. We hand-crafted a very limited run and now you have a chance to get and play this game. No Talent Required is an art game for the rest of us. As the name implies, you don't need great drawing skills, just an imagination and some friends. Everything else you need comes in the bag!
With your help, we're going to print as many Stickers in Public as possible. $750 is enough for a decent print run, which brings the cost down to a reasonable level. If we make more than our goal, printing will be even cheaper per unit, which will give us more leeway to come up with awesome additional stuff.
If we get enough interest to fund this first run, we'll cover the design cost for the other stickers ourselves.
Longer term, our goal is to make Stickers in Public available to everyone through www.stickersinpublic.com. We'll always post the PDF versions of the stickers for free and charge for sticker sets to cover the cost of printing and development of more Stickers in Public.
Backers will get their PDF immediately and their stickers will ship as soon as we have them from the printer. Anyone else who wants them will have to wait for us to update the site after that's all done. Non-backers will also never be able to get the unique Kickstarter rewards, including the 4"x6" game and house rules stickers.

His favorite play is computer adventure games and aikido. Ian Pottmeyer is Studio Cypher’s Audiomatic Enigmatist and he makes beautiful music and beautiful art. His preferred forms of play are alternate reality games and ridiculous challenges.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
1. Our sticker provider might disappear - we have some other possible sources that aren't quite as nice, but would still allow us to print our first run.
2. Our games might be lame - our playtesters don't think so! The first two stickers (and all of the game rules) are available at stickersinpublic.com, so you can check them out. You can also help us make them better!
3. The sticker design might be so bad that it makes dogs howl - our office dog doesn't even bark at the current designs, but we have several artists working to make them even better.
4. You might discover that you're allergic to plastic - No worries! Have someone else post the stickers and then play at a distance.
